Mr. Sunshine: Um Raio de Sol (2018)

As a filmmaker myself, I am really impressed on how far the film industry of Korea can go. A high budget production for a Korean Drama series. Imagine how much it takes to produce a 2 hour movie... Now make that into a series and multiply that budget per episode. That's Mr. Sunshine. Big respect to the film industry of Korea. They are serious and passionate with the art.

I watched Goblin and I really liked it, it did set my standards for Korean Dramas before... Now, from the same creators comes 'Mr. Sunshine' - they set the bar too high haha.

Ho il magone.

Ho aspettato a lungo prima di vedere questo drama perchè avevo paura di imbattermi in qualcosa che mi avrebbe sconvolto e che si sarebbe portato via qualcosa di me una volta finita la visione. Non avevo torto.
Sto scrivendo questa recensione dopo aver appena finito l'ultimo episodio per cui perdonatemi se sarò particolarmente sentimentale.
Il titolo di questa recensione non è dato a caso, ho davvero il magone. Le lacrime mi si sono bloccate in gola da quanto avrei voglia di urlare e piangere. Il periodo storico che fa da sfondo all'intera vicenda è come un "filo rosso" del destino che intreccia diversi personaggi che per altrimenti non avrebbero avuto molto di incontrarsi e di stringere strane quanto mai alleanze. La storia d'amore che fa da cardine a tutto quello che succede è veramente bella e soprattutto sentita. Il sentirci impotenti come furono all'epoca i coreani di fronte all'esercito giapponese ci rende schiavi di questa serie, poichè ci fa sentire e patire almeno in piccolissima parte quello che accadde ormai un secolo fa. In un'altra parte del mondo, una parte di cui ahimè sappiamo davvero ben poco. Lo so, so che questa serie è in gran parte romanzata, ma secondo me riesce benissimo nel suo intento. Non avevo nemmeno finito i titoli di coda infatti, che sono subito corsa su internet a fare ricerche su quel periodo storico di cui noi non sappiamo pressochè nulla.
Le musiche sono fantastiche, la regia, la fotografia, i dialoghi, tutto. I rapporti umani.
In questo drama c'è praticamente tutto: amore, amicizia, mafia, violenza, sangue, combattimenti, intrighi di potere, vendetta, libertà. Voglia di vivere e di farsi valere da parte di chiunque, donna, bambino, uomo, vecchio.
Consiglio davvero la visione a chiunque, ma preparatevi psicologicamente ad essere abbattuti,

UNA OBRA DE ARTE HECHA KDRAMA

Solo un drama como ''Mr. Sunshine'' podría reunir una producción tan increíble desde el primer momento. Comenzando con la talentosísima escritora Kim Eun Sook trabajando nuevamente con el increíble director Lee Eung Bok siendo esta su tercer producción en conjunto (Descendants of the Sun y Goblin), hasta las actuaciones porque me atrevo a decir que tiene un elenco de lujo y sigue siendo uno de los MEJORES cast en la historia de los kdramas. Por supuesto las expectativas estaban en Lee Byung Hyun y Kim Tae Ri y lograron cumplirlas y superarlas pero Byun Yo Han y Kim Min Jung se robaron el drama, pero quien logró impactarme aún mas fue Yoo Yeon Seok, fue su momento de lucirse y lo hizo mas que bien.

Pero las actuaciones van de la mano con los personajes tan bien construidos y desarrollados. Cada uno tiene su lado y están luchando por su propio beneficio pero el verdadero enemigo no está entre ellos y lo saben, por eso conocemos diferentes facetas de cada uno. Go Ae Shin y Kudo Hina son mujeres fuertes y que inspiran ese espíritu de lucha que no siempre se tiene o se siente forzado, eso no ocurre en lo absoluto con ellas.

Es uno de los pocos dramas bélicos que he visto y al ser además histórico tiene la desventaja de no ser precisamente la preferencia para el público general, pero yo que sin estar acostumbrada al género pude conectar tanto con la historia es porque vale completamente ver cada uno de los 24 capítulos, que no incluyen relleno ni subtramas innecesarias.

Guerra, amistad, valor familiar, discriminación social y racial, multilingüe, un cast diverso, romance, comedia, tragedia y mucho más presentado con una cinematografía y dirección simplemente HERMOSAS, cada escena y cada toma era un nuevo escenario y paisaje precioso.

No suelo recomendarlo tanto como debería, pero desde el momento en que lo ví, sabía que se convertiría en uno de los mejores dramas coreanos alguna vez producidos.

Great cast, great acting, failed to remain interesting

I'm not someone who drops stuff left and right, it pains me to do so most of the time. But my time is valuable and I've been dragging this show for a few years, never being able to summon the interest to finish it. After watching a few more episode and being mostly bored out of my mind, I decided it was time to pull the plug on it.

The acting is good, the cast is all stars, the first few episodes are very nice. I usually like political intrigues and romance and stuff. But my good the pacing... Again, I'm a former cinema student, I've seen worse and the pacing isn't something that will affect my watching experience most of the time. Except when it's starting to drag THAT much that early on. Except when the funny ha-ha jokes to brighten the mood get far and fewer between. Except when I cannot even really hold on to the romance to keep some kind of motivation to know how it's going to end up.

I made it up to more than halfway, about 60%+ in fact, and I don't care what happens anymore. It becoming so complicated and my lack of interest in the plot might not help me to understand what's going on, but like... the stakes are soooo high all the time that it weirdly feels like they don't matter anymore. The only few people I still care about are Goo Dong Mae and Kudo Hina. But there are not the main, so I won't stick around to find out how they end up.

I think it can still be a good show though, if you binge it. Is it bingeable? Really not sure. But don't spend too much time between each episode, because in my experience, you'll get lost and you will start to not care slowly but surely, and drop it as well . Or finish it, but by fighting against your better judgement.

If you're into cheesy love stories then this isn't the drama for you. If you're into historical dramas, tragic then this is the drama for you! The story can be difficult to understand however if you pay attention you'll be fine or if you read comments LOL. This drama is really beautiful and I hope you give this drama a chance.

This drama isn't too fast paced nor too slow paced. Each episode is important, each scene is important. The cinematography in each episode is breathtaking. The storyline is simple as , set in joseon time.

Story line : I will honestly give the storyline a 10. As I said before the storyline is different, the script the dialogues is well written and each epusode really captivates you. The romance in this drama was done well not too fast nor too slow. Both main leads were pleasant to watch and as their love grows we all really do crave for more. The love story in this drama is very much different than other drama love story I am telling you now. This drama is about the war between Japan-korea and it really does educate us if you're into historical dramas lol.

Acting : EVERYONE DID SUCH AN AMAZING JOBBBBBBB. They really did drop main casts to 2nd main casts to supporting casts to minor casts. I am very well impressed with them. Plus the chemistry between all was really different and intriguing. Lee Byung Hyun honestly never fails to impress me, I'm glad KES picked him for the job. He really done a great job as expected from him. Kim Tae Ri has now gained a fan ! Ha ha. She did wonders with her acting! Her facial expressions were great her dialogues her accent she did it well. Not one once of awkwardness. The chemistry between her character and LBH character was extremely good. You can't feel any awkwardness or any any gap between the two as you're too immense into their love and their adventures together. Kim Min Jung I watched her previous drama didn't like her role much but her acting here was awesome!!! She is one of my favourite characters so fearless. The actress did a amazing job at it and it is really hard to portray the role well but she did it and she also gained a fan! Yoo Yeon Seok is God damn attractive!!! He never fails to impress me and his chemistry with all the casts was pleasing to watch YYS really mastered his role well, he makes you want to hate him and love him at the same time. Last but not least Byun Yo Han - you'll end up just loving him he's really funny. The actor did a good job at it too and I'm glad KES picked him. Nethertheless everyone did great. The supporting cast did to (I would write their names out and talk about them but it would be too long lol!) Thank you KES for choosing them.

I gave music a 10 as well because the music really did go well with the drama overall. It was soft and slow and I do actually listen to the songs in YouTube. Really soothing.

Rewatch I gave it a 10 because I will deffo rewatch this drama later on maybe a year after or so. This drama is worth the rewatch.

This drama will not bore you.

This is a drama I will watch countless times. Absolutely sure about it.

I'm completely satisfied with the male lead's charming, exquisite performance. If he did not already have an fairly decent ability in English language, then he sure learned it quite perfectly for this drama.
The way Choi Yoo Jin mesmerized me with his manners, his looks, his perfect devotion to the female lead. I think it's one of the best performances from a male actor I've seen in Korean dramas. Any woman would love him, any King would honor him. And surely anyone would want to be defended and protected by him.

I haven't seen Kim Tae Ri play in dramas. It surely is something to regret, I'll fix that mistake quickly.

She plays with this fervent fire and dedication, that you might see in other actors, but at first notice, I can't think, who would fit more perfectly into this role. The gentle yet unbending nature of the role is perfectly acted out by this female lead. When I looked her play Go Ae Sin's role out, it made me want to be her. The courage emerging from fear and doubt, with such victorious indignation. It takes me a step farther, to look at women of that society more closely and to ardently admire of the nature of women in all the times of the world.
Not as a feminist, but just as a fair judge of character, I wonder, how many people with this kind of nature have there ever been in this world and will there ever be...

Also I would like to point out that, when in a hurry to get to the plot's important moments and as usually a person with busy life, there was not a moment in this drama, that I had the heart to skip. Everything fitted so perfectly. There was not a moment that would have left a question mark, as why would they add this or that scene here/there. And this is one of the most important points of any drama. How well does the story flow and how much does it make you want to skip to the important parts. This, for me, had not a second of it.

Also, one extremely important point. The side characters, everyone was important for the story. They added coulor's to the story, that will make it possible to remember them as much as the male/female lead.
Not just the lead actors, but also every other actor was perfect for their position in this drama.

#BTW! Music is over the top. You can just drown into the emotions and the deep feelings in the drama's OST!

Oscar Worthy

If this drama had been a movie instead, it'd be Oscar worthy. The cinematography is visually stunning, the score really adds to the plot, the actors performances are incredible and they truly made each character believable. Mr. Sunshine is top 3 dramas of all time for me. It has important historical points that are heartbreaking yet eye opening. People complain of the age gap between the leads, but I didn't even pay attention to that. They have chemistry but isn't overly done and it's done with taste. It has a fast start and then seems to move slower, but every episode has something happening. If you stick with it, it is one of those dramas that ends up living rent free in your head and once in a while when youre driving, out for a walk, cooking or doing any mundane task, this drama will pop into your head and you'll be grateful to have watched it!

Wonderful production with one major problem with the ending.

II have been watching TV series for some months now, and Mr. Sunshine is one of the best. Great acting, cinematography, and a compelling story. I just have one thing about the ending I don't understand.

I admit that I am partial to happy endings, but realize the value of the sad ones. A bit of overkill - practically every major character is killed ( Think Hamlet). Perhaps this was done to emphasize the terrible cost of war. But it does leave some viewers depressed. This, however, is not my complaint.

In the final scene, Eugene forces the Japanese soldiers into the last car of the train along with the hostage he keeps in front of him. Then he steps into to last car, fires his last bullet to unlink the last car from the train, dooming himelf. Why did he not do the same thing by forcing the soldiers and the hostage into the car and then unlink the car while still remaining on the next-to-last car so he could get back inside the train before the soldiers could get around the hostage to shoot him? He has always been so resourceful, and this final act does not ring true.

Un drama plein d'émotions

Et bien, il y a 3 ans, c'était mon premier drama... Et celui qui m'a fait devenir accroc au Kdrama, entre autre.
Il faut dire, il est magnifique ! Historique, les costumes et les paysages sont sublimes. Les acteurs sont magnifiques, et les rôles secondaires sont tout aussi captivant que le duo principal.
Les émotions sont fortes, sans jamais échanger un seul baiser dans tout le drama, les deux acteurs principaux arrivent à nous faire vivre une des plus belles histoires d'amour de tout les temps.
Par contre préparez la boite de mouchoir, c'est aussi un des dramas les plus tristes que j'ai eu à voir.
Enfin, la touche finale de cette série, et pas des moindres : Les musiques. Elles sont juste magnifiques, et on ne se lasse pas de réécouter toute la bande son en boucle, même une fois le drama fini.
Bref, un bijou à découvrir.

A beautiful story

This story takes a while to get into. The first episode is a bit confusing but after a few episodes I began throughly enjoying the story and the characters.

Best Parts:
The characters are so beautifully written and complex. Many of the characters are neither good or bad but are somewhere in the gray area.

The cinematography is gorgeous. This show looks beautiful and it is obvious that the production team put their best effort to make this show look great.

Weaker Parts:
I would say my only complaint is some of the characters I wish we spent more on screen time with them.

A bit of warning: This show can get a bit violent/ bloody.

Overall: This is become one of my favorite dramas and I think the drama with the best production value I have ever seen. I recommend the watch.

just simple few words This is Super Masterrrrrrrrrrrrrrpieceeeeeeeeeeeeee This Drama Deserve Oscar award for how amazing this drama is and also all character really did amazing Job and in my eyes this drama beat all hits drama like /My Mister/Signal/Prison Playbook/Eternal Love/Stranger/Goblin/ This is my most favorite drama in whole Asia and I know that my review won't be that much helper cause i m not good at writing review but at least u can understand me what I m trying to about this amazing drama.and I won't write details here about this drama like how is the story and romance/bromamce/emoinal cause I want u guys to watch by ur self and enjoy the amazing drama by ur self.! and just get ready bundle of tissues cause u will ugly cry but ur tear won't stop for hours.! Just Give A try and if u didn't like it then I deserve to get punch in the face..

I’m laaate. I know. I regret that I didn’t know this drama until now. I was bored when i saw this on netflix, clicking this drama without any expectations at all because i didn’t even know it. Now after watching all of it, this is my first time writing a review because it’s THAT GOOD. Every episode is precious and timeless. It teaches and inspire you about so many things. Love, friendship, patrionism, loyalty, etc... Be prepared though. It’ll be a one hella rollercoaster ride of emotions. I would say that this is now my all time best drama FOREVER. No regrets at all.
