This was honestly one of my favorite dramas ever. I loved the various cases Jung Jae Chan had to deal with during his time as a prosecutor. I loved the positive relationships between the characters of this story. The villain was very fascinating and appealing. The writing was amazing except for a couple of loop holes which didn't affect the story much. The characters were very realistic and rational unlike many other k dramas and this was an overall win for me. Lee Jong Suk's and Bae Suzy's acting seemed very genuine. Their emotions were like that of an average human being without over dramatic excessively emotional scenes unless the situation demanded so. I would definitely recommend this to everyone since both the male and female leads have strong characters and support each other wonderfully through their struggles.

Firstly, I think that the opinions people have about this drama were highly influenced by how much the show was anticipated. My impression is that everybody expected While You Were Sleeping to be this masterpiece drama based on the cast and even more so after the strong opening episodes, and because of those high expectations, many were left unsatisfied. However, if we put all that aside, I think we can say that this drama did exceptionally good. Was it a masterpiece? Wouldn`t say so. Could it have been better? Probably yes. But most importantly, is it worth the watch? Most definitely.

Let`s start with the plot. Being able to predict the future through dreams is a topic that has been widely explored in a number of other shows, and movies (not necessarily Korean dramas and movies), so if you have seen those you can have a gist of what you should expect. That being said, WYWS had a messy, but acceptable plot. What was important for me was that it keeps me interested through the whole show, and it did. It kept surprising, linking parts of the story from the beginning until the end. There were moments that could be predicted, however there were many that could not. As it constantly skips from the present to the past and to the future as well, some parts were bound to get a bit messed up, but I think we can live with that. The show held me tightly throughout the 32 episodes, which is not something that many K-dramas have done.

Now to the cast. I`ve seen Lee Jong Suk in Pinocchio and W, and I loved his acting there. Here, he did good throughout the most part, but I believe he only started to shine in the last few episodes. On his account though, it was not an easy role. None of the roles in this drama were, while we are at it. The characters had to constantly display various kinds of emotions, some which were supposed to be hidden, but still visible enough so we can notice them. Nevertheless, I think Lee Jong Suk was a good fit for the role. As for Suzy, I haven’t seen any other dramas that she has been in, but I’ve read that she is regarded as just a “pretty actress”. For me, she did just fine. It wasn’t anything spectacular, but it was okay, and more importantly, the character suits her. And the fact that I mentioned that the characters were hard to act applies to her the most. She is supposed to be the girl that can see the future, but be smart enough to see that she can’t change it, yet also strong enough to move on with life knowing that people around her are dying while she could theoretically do something about it. Overall, I don`t have any major objections towards any of our 2 leads. And if we talk about the second leads, I have only praise about them. Jung Hae In and Lee Sang Yeob did perfectly what they were supposed to do. One should be loved, the other one should be hated. And that was the way it was. The side cast did a great job as well, especially Kim Won Hae, I have honestly not seen a bad drama with him.

The music was very nice, beautiful at some points, there are some memorable soundtracks, and it matched the atmosphere perfectly. Slow, melancholy, yet hope inducing songs that suit both the heart breaking and the heart fluttering moments. Even though the story takes place in a city, the drama had some nice scenery, which made it even more pleasant to watch.

Overall, for me, this drama was amazing. For some it could have been just okay, and I completely understand why. The prevailing romance fit well with the storyline and made it even more striking at some points. There were moments of happiness, moments of grief, and moments of anger, which could easily take you on an emotional ride. I suggest that you watch this drama, even if you have doubts about it, since I am quite certain it won`t disappoint you.

you know this show had so much potential. maybe it was just me ... but when i watched this kdrama it was the best thing in the entire world. i was so impressed i was shocked i was gagged i was thrown off the building and roof i ascended and i literally even considered it to be my favorite kdrama ever. and i always thought of it that way until i decided to give it another chance and to rewatch it with a friend who wanted to watch it for the first time. let me tell you, by this time i had watched COUNTLESS amazing dramas ... and kinda still expected this drama to be fire too.... except it burned me .... and not even in a good way ..... everything about it was so .... idfk?? the only reason why i give it a 6.5/10 is because i have good memories with this kdrama. i watched it in 2018 or 2019 and it was fun to watch it. they had a good amount of osts for this kdrama but tell me why they only played 3 memorable ones??? im not even kidding sometimes i wondered how they even had a playlist for the osts when i couldnt remember half??????? the romance felt so forced .... why did they hug in ep 2????? also the microphone was not it ... every time they would yell or scream it would be bass boosted .... idk man maybe the production wasnt the best but ..... the romance was not it. so forced. and also lowkey unnecessary. the prosecutor dying was stupid and random too. the lawyer (who also happened to be the male leads EX best friend) becoming a criminal was kinda stupid too. the male lead getting shot and almost "dying" (he literally had a flat line) was dumb as hell too. and the WORST PART of it all was the fact that the male and female lead were CHILDHOOD FRIENDS and the male lead had no idea. like i hate that childhood friend bs shit and they come back to each others lives oh my godddd. and they introduced the entiiire childhood bs thing super late ...... like right when the male lead got shot and was gonna be like hahahahhaa i remember u !!! and then boom .. anyway. yeah it was so stupid. idk it had so much potential but they ruined it. and now my friend makes fun of me for thinking this kdrama is good.

Keep your regrets short but remember it for a long time.

Plot: A woman who dreams about future events and no matter what she does, she couldn’t change it, until someone did. Although the plot may seem weird or too favorable for the flow of the story, the cases were interesting enough to move forward.

Acting: The other main leads shone brightly than the couple, their chemistry was off as well. The female lead can cry but the emotion is not in place for me. Her line delivery is sometimes awkward, probably because of her mouth and it makes her acting awkward as well. While the male lead tried to be silly but had some unconvincing or unnatural facial expressions. Even so, Suzy Bae and Lee Jong Suk still did a decent job in most scenes.

Music: I love the Ost/bgm especially Henry Lau’s.

Rewatch Value: I might not rewatch but there could be some scenes people may find rewatchable.

Overall: 8 stars for the comforting message and goosebumps moments. Mr. Choi made me cry a lot and there were also some scenes that I found relatable. The series was frustrating initially because their decisions were kind of contradicting but fortunately, every episode ended up nicely. They keep having these dangerous dreams, and they try to change the flow and yet they still think about not sharing it or brainstorming about it. It’s like they haven’t learned anything from their experiences. Luckily, it ended up in a satisfying way or somehow acceptable. Jae Chan didn’t have to find the earring to prove that Hong Ju was lying about not visiting him in ICU because clearly, they had a conversation before about him punching her when they were younger, and she was the one who remembered it. There were some bothersome events like hiding stuff in a very obvious place or stealing phones and left it open all day that could make your eyes roll. The ending was not memorable as well. The inconsistencies of the plot could be a turn off to some but since I enjoyed the dialogues, it didn’t affect my overall rating and feeling for the drama.

Llevo muchísimo tiempo viendo dramas, y no había terminado ninguno jamás hasta que llegó While You Were Sleeping.

Are you looking for a thiriller? Something that will keep you on the edge of your seat? If yes then for the most part this drama probably isn't for you. But if your looking for a sweet funny romcom this this drama is probably for you!

Story - the story was great at first. It kept you on the edge of your seat while making you crazy waiting for the next episode. Soon after around ep 16/8 the drama lost its thrilling spark. The dreams became repetitive, and usually had the same outcomes. If you think of this drama as mainly romcom, I think you would enjoy it though. :)

Acting/cast - I liked the cast. Suzy was great, she improved quite a bit and her character was pretty funny sometimes. Lee Jong suk was the same as always. His performance was enjoyable, although I think he should try to play a different type of character next time. As it feels that his character is always the same character in a different world. The rest of the cast was great!

Music - I really enjoyed the Music, especially Come To Me by Lee Jong Suk, and Lucid Dream  by Monogram.

Rewatch Value - I feel like you could rewatch this drama after a long time but if you rewatch it right away you will get bored by the repetitiveness.

Overall - This drama was a good watch. I watched around one episode a day so I didn't get bored by it, and enjoyed it quite a bit. I recommend this if you are looking for a cute romcom.

(Sorry for any spelling errors, I wrote this on a phone and in a hurry)

Good start but became boring after

I did like the first couple of episodes of this drama. The plot was interesting of how they can see events unfold in the future in their dreams. But as the drama went on, it lost my interest. I think my biggest issue is that how this drama wanted to be a mix of comedy and drama. I think MDL needs to update this drama with comedy on it. There were tons of comedy in this drama that I thought I was watching a romcom when I did not want to. If you want me to take this drama more serious then cut the comedy stuff out. If they had just focus it on it being darker/emotional, I might have been able to finish this drama. It felt predictable, unfunny, and filler.

After the first couple of episodes, it feels too episodic. It's a new case after new case with little impact to the main story. The romance between the main couple was actually nice in the beginning. But as they became more closer with each other eventually becoming a couple, it felt forced and cringe. This drama feels like it relied on these 2 actors to carry the lovey romance between them throughout the drama instead of focusing more on the main plot.

100% Awesome!

This was the longest KDrama Series that I watched. This was the first time that I didn't get bored in the middle of the drama and skipped to the last two episodes then go back to episodes that I skip. It had me focused all the way from the first episode through to the last episode. Suzy Bae you just made my Top 10 Female Actresses. Thank you, Suzy Bae and Lee Jong Suk for making this story interesting, exciting, romantic, emotional, and a lot of drama. Lee Jong Suk, wow just wow, everything you did in this KDrama performance made this very convincing, being humorous (which I loved the most), you are a star! LJS has them eyes with long lashes that shine bright too. *Love them eyeZ* The Romance chemistry was there between Suzy Bae and Lee Jong Suk... "Awesome".

When I give a 10 rating, it means that the storyline wouldn't have worked without all the cast, directors, producers, screenwriters (what a storyline, loved it) visual, wardrobe and etc. *bowing 3x's to everyone with much respect*!

Starts good but mediocre from the middle

You want to dive into the most used cliches in Kdrama romance shows:

How about love triangles? No?
I know that is related to dreams but how about childhood encounters that leads are not aware of? No?
Then what about the most childish jealousy (Like nobody can't even lay a finger on you!)? No?
How about the kind of triangle when someone one of the leads had a close man and woman relationship with becomes the evil enemy of you and your lover to the end? No?
How about leads presented as goodness incarnate and not actual human beings?
I can give you more but I think that's enough.

And no matter how hard I tried not to care but he didn't look like a prosecutor to me. The clothes he wears, how he looks and behaves.

The romance and the lovey-dovey parts. Not my taste. At least not from halfway forward. I skipped most romance parts and fast-forwarded everything from the middle.

The start and the first half were decent but I lost interest halfway.

I don't think that the two main actors did a bad job, but I don't think they did an amazing job, either. Suzy has the same expression when she cries, and Lee Jon Suck is always doing that weird smile thing that's supposed to be endearing but it's just awkward. I did like his scenes with his brother, though, and the inspector and Woo Tak. Regarding their acting as a romantic couple, it felt forced and awkward and they barely touched and it felt so weird to watch.
I think Jung Hae In as Won Tak and Lee Sang Yeob as Yu Beom were the ones who stole the show for me. I think they completely stole your attention from everybody else when they were on the screen, and did a better job of showing different emotions and sometimes even make you empathize a little with them (in Yu Beom's case, because at first I thought they'd just leave it at "he's a jerk who told Jae Chan to fake his notes and would've blamed Hong Ju" and then show him becoming a better person, and while I respect their decition to not redeem him, I kinda hoped he would, at some point, because the actor did such a good job of showing his own internal conflict).
The music was sort of meh for me.

"While You Were Sleeping: A Riveting Blend of Dreams and Destiny"

Lee Jong Suk and Bae Suzy shine in the captivating K-drama "While You Were Sleeping," where dreams become a mysterious bridge connecting two seemingly unrelated lives. Lee Jong Suk takes on the role of Jung Jae Chan, a rookie prosecutor, while Bae Suzy portrays Nam Hong Ju, who possesses the unique ability to foresee future events but often finds herself powerless to alter their course.

The narrative unfolds as the two characters become neighbors, and their destinies intertwine in unexpected ways. The chemistry between Lee Jong Suk and Bae Suzy is palpable, adding depth to the emotional journey of their characters. The inclusion of a ruthless attorney, Lee Yu Beom, and a life-saving intervention sets the stage for a complex web of interconnected dreams and fates.

The brilliance of "While You Were Sleeping" lies not only in the stellar performances but also in its ability to keep viewers hooked with its unpredictable plot twists. The drama skillfully navigates between the realms of dreams and reality, making every episode a compelling piece of the puzzle. Lee Jong Suk's portrayal of the rookie prosecutor brings a refreshing energy to the series, while Bae Suzy's depiction of Nam Hong Ju adds a touch of vulnerability and strength.

"So good, so good, soo good..." This sentiment perfectly captures the essence of the drama. Despite its premise involving dreams, "While You Were Sleeping" keeps the audience wide awake and on their toes with its intricate storytelling and character development. It's a binge-worthy experience that seamlessly weaves together romance, mystery, and the supernatural, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating each twist and turn.

In short, "While You Were Sleeping" is a must-watch for K-drama enthusiasts, offering a perfect balance of heartwarming moments, suspense, and a touch of the extraordinary. Lee Jong Suk and Bae Suzy's on-screen chemistry, coupled with a well-crafted plot, make this drama a delightful journey that lingers in the hearts of its audience long after the final episode.

SOUNDTRACK SLAPS HARDER THAN I'D LET HAN WOO TAK SLAP ME (AND I'D LET HIM SLAP VERY HARD)

The soundtrack kinda slaps though. "When A Long Night Comes", "It's You" and "Lucid Dream" have been replayed in my Spotify playlist so many times since I first watched this drama. These 3 songs are so fucking good.

"You're the right time at the right moment. You're the sunlight, keeps my heart going." Man, I LOVE this chorus.

The first episode really knows how to hook you in. I honestly had no idea what I was going into with this, but after the first episode, I couldn't stop.

If I was the type to get second lead syndrome (SLS), this would be the first time. But also, technically, it wouldn't be called SLS, since I don't want the SML to be with the FL; I just really love him myself. And as a person. He was the first SML (I think) that I've seen that liked the main chick but knew that she belonged with the main dude, so he never tried to interfere negatively with their relationship. And I LOVE that. He was supportive and a best friend to both of them whenever they needed it. He was perfect. I hoped that he would end up with a chick for his own at the end—that would've made me happy. He can also slap me very hard. Han Woo Tak can.
