Five Stars

once again, hooked right from the start. I know everything that’s going to happen, which only makes this rewatch so satisfying. Bo Young, my love, she is just SO wonderful in this role. even when Bong Sun is timid, constantly apologizing, it just makes me want to hold her close. sure she’s pitiable, but that isn’t a bad thing. the world has beaten her down. weary and washed out, drifting through life like a ghost herself. Sun Woo is arrogant without being insufferable. he’s lonely too, but he’s able to glide along with a charming smile. intolerant of weakness and mistakes, which makes him Bong Sun’s foil. then miss thing, the ghostess with the mostess! lonely and frustrated but she’s still so alive and vibrant. I wonder if that’s why her frequency matched so well with Bong Sun. misc faves/highlights: Kwak Si Yang and bbo riding on a motorbike, food as communication and language, jazzy music, the soft lighting, ghosts!!, spooky and moody but with brightness and levity

Seul Gi and Bo Young are fantastic.

Both of the female leads are such a joy to watch. I wish that more female leads could have the vivaciousness of the ghost. My least favourite part of the episode involves a scene specifically built for exaggerated drama which should never play out that way in real life - a scene with a food blogger letting her child run wild in the restaurant while she takes so long photographing the food that it gets cold. All while other patrons are having lunch. My biggest peeve with this scene is that no one mentions that her opinions about the food shouldn't matter if she's taking twenty or so minutes getting pictures of it before eating (significant as she is apparently an influential blogger).

A solid start though a bit slow. I can't help…

A solid start though a bit slow. I can't help comparing it to The Master's Sun (one of my favorites) although I'm trying hard not to. Especially since the first half of the episode gave off very similar vibes. For a first episode it wasn't totally engaging, but it is definitely promising with the ending, I can tell we are going to have a lot of fun watching this.

Most people seem to see Bong Sun as bland, but I find her seriously adorable; she plays the shy character well. Of course our main ghost girl (don't know her name) is aye total opposite of our shy heroine and I'm already so I'm excited to see what's to come. Our main lead guy seems promising too. Rather than a jerk he's just strict. He's also arrogant but in the comedic sense. And I love that we delve into his past character as well which was similar to Bong Sun's.

I'm a little bit iffy because I don't want our male lead to fall in love with Possessed Bong Sun because that's not actually HER ya know, but it looks like that's where it's heading...oh well hopefully they pull it off well!

Oh, I love fun ghost stories!

Ghost stories are my weakness! Especially when they're fun. Which is good because Kim Seul Gi as the virgin ghost Shin Soon Ae is pretty darn funny to watch. Seul Gi is one of my favorite comedic actresses out there and I'm so happy to see her. She's lively, hilarious, and looks gorgeous here! So I was a little bummed when she hijacks the leads body and doesn't visually take over too. But my love for Seul Gi is probably blinding me from giving her a chance. Though the lead character, Bong Sun, doesn't have much of a personality so it's hard to tell what acting skills Park Bo Young.

Bong Sun is a cute girl and she's the perfect shy and bashful "sorry" girl. Bong Sun as a character isn't well developed so. So far we know Bong Sun is a sickly girl, she wants to become a chef, she has a huge scrap book keeping crush on Sun Woo, and (oh, yeah) she's sorry for everything. Spineless leads in general disinterests me. Sun Woo has my support on disliking her. Clearly we'll get to see Soon Ae make her more spirited. Hopefully this will transform the lead as well as give the actress some more depth to work with.

Overall this gives a great impression. It all seems like fun ghost hijinks, even with a ghostly lunch! There's a hint of some darker hauntings. Which is probably why Bong Sun is such a weak character. You know she's being haunted so she's afraid all the time. (Why is this a thing with women in shows that can see ghosts? No really? Why can't it make them tougher?)

This show kept me engaged and happy with the first episode. A perfect combination of yummy food and funny ghosts! The bell gag is awesome! No flashbacks at this point, but I feel like Oh My Ghost doesn't need to go there to establish this story line. I'm very excited to see how the setup for the ghost world develops as somethings are hinted at. And why if Bong Sun has a shaman relation she doesn't know how to live and deal with ghosts? Looking forward to the next episode! I wonder how they will top the start of episode one? Because a virgin ghost possessing some girl and seducing a man is hard to beat!
