What I like most about this was that it really evoked youthful memories. I also like the community vibe, the love, support and laughter. It was truly warm.
What is disliked it that it was not so eventful and they really dragged the secret relationship out to the last moment.

Wow...
I've watched this drama so many times. It portrays friendship and family dynamics in the most heartwarming way possible. I don't think I will ever watch another k-drama better than this. The plot was fantastic and covered so much, more than I could ask for.I LOVE the cast and their chemistry. I really don't have any complaints about this show, other than the fact that I just want more and more.
The OSTs are extremely iconic and catchy, and "Hyehwadong" (sung by Park Bo-ram) really just epitomises nostalgia and childhood. So many variety shows have used that track to encapsulate nostalgia and it really just makes me feel very warm. I miss my childhood. Outstanding show and an outstanding performance by the cast. Best k-drama ever in my opinion.
In summary:
What i liked - everything
What i disliked - i want more
Star of the show: Hyeri, Lee Dong-hwi, Ra Mi-ran, Kim Sung-kyun
Rating: 11/10
Watch if you want to cry

Delicate, simple and funny... Yet touching and deep.
This is a story about life. From the small things, to the big events, it's all shown in a simple way, just as it is. Sometimes slow, sometimes incredibly fast, and it's somehow relatable, because it's about emotions and concerns we all experience in some way, at some time in our lives.
Sadness, insecurities, hardships, fear, longing, regret, foolishness, maturity, growth, joy, nostalgia, comfort, gratitude.
I think this is a drama that teaches something important: find meaning in the small things in life. Every caring word and act has meaning and they have more value that what we may think for a moment.
It also teaches that family is not only the one of blood, family is the people who know you, stay with you and care for you no matter what.
I really loved the heartwarming friendship and incredible bonds between people shown in this drama, it was a joy to see, and i loved every character, whom I grew fond of.
Also, the cast for this drama was truly amazing.
Anyway, this show conveyed to me something precious: live to the fullest, cry sometimes, don't miss too many chances, be brave, enjoy life and say "I love you" to your important persons.
Finally, it reminded me, once again, that friendship is one of the greatest treasures in life.

I live in Ssangmundong. Periodt.
This is the first show that feels so alive for me. I once lived in Ssangmundong! I once fell in love with my best friend's sister! I once had hard times to sleep because i was too anxious with my upcoming competition! I once won lottery and became rich! I once had an unspoken crush on my best friend! I once had role in Olympics opening ceremony!I love how they successfully made every character shines in their own story. And trust me the chemistry between the WHOLE neighborhood is too strong in every aspect: friendship, romance, siblings, parents. Trust me.
And for the iconic element of Reply series, the love triangle/husband-guessing part is quite fun and..rocky ? both male leads are so likeable. And female lead has great chemistry with both. So I warn you, whoever you choose you'd end up falling for the second lead (but who is the second lead anyway? There's no second lead)
The message depicted in this show is clear and done beautifully. Go watch it! Do not easily feel bored in the first episodes because once you get it through the end you'd never move on from this show.
The only thing I didn't like is the ending. I feel depressed when I watched the ending. Like you know I felt so sad when one-by-one, they left their old houses in Ssangmundong :"( I could never rewatch the flashback scenes in ep 20 :")))

Must see for its nostalgic value
For anyone who grew up in the pre-internet, analog era with music cassettes and cassette tape recorders, and families huddling around the TV waiting to watch that weekly show, this is a MUST see. It will take you down memory lane, no matter which country you grew up in. The 80s were all the same, not just in S.Korea.An interplay of neighbourly relationships, this drama harks back to an age where people in a neighhourhood helped each out, shared lives, shared food, even shared wealth amongst each other.
The last scene is a true tear jerker, as you realize, just as in your own life, that that bitter sweet era is over, changed forever by the modern, internet driven world, where a nobody like me can write a review online about a foreign show, an era that is never to be seen again.

The acting is great that the characters are super relatable that they made you hook to the drama itself. Their journey itself is the main hook. Every character have their own charm and special in the audience.
I recomend you should watch this and include to your list if you are a beginner to the kdrama world. The ost is also making the drama more hook!!!
Watch also the other reply series, reply 1997 and 1994. Both are good also. The director of these dramas is good that translating to the visual and how each chracter should act and their feelings toward each other.

This drama refresh our youth memories
Name - Reply 1988
No of Episodes: 20
Genre - Family, Friendship, Romance Drama
This Korean drama presented me with a series of surprises that I have never seen before. It was one of the most popular dramas of all time but it was too late to think that First Impression would be a bad clich story. The last thing I was interested in seeing was some of the best reviews I've seen on Twitter.
One of the things that amazes me the most is that we can relate so much to real life. The story takes place in the 80's and '90s, when there was no such thing as a smartphone, computer or internet. Being realistic, it's a very dramatic presentation, and in some episodes it goes from drama to melodrama. One of the biggest features is that it still does not bore the audience like a moment.
Does not go into the story authentically. However, what does Reply 1998 mean? A look back at the period from 1988 to 1998. A Neighborhood There are 4 families with many different character traits. They live close by, and four young men from the same family show us around 20 episodes beautifully accompanied by humor, all of the small problems and troubles that befell their friendship with themselves and their families. A very deep presentation. That is what sets this drama apart from other series. I have never seen a presentation like this before ..
There are no words to describe the characters .. Everything was perfect Casting .. A lot of characters are coming before us. Some of the characters in it are sure to stay in our minds even after the drama .. In my case, a character called sung Bora attracted a lot.
Br The brilliance of a director who exaggerates even the smallest things is highly commendable. A big salute to the director who made it clear.?
Ang The Triangle Love Story that came up in between seemed like a stumbling block .. To be honest, it was something I did not like at all. Yet it does not affect the enjoyment at all. Another thing is the length of the episode, which is one hour and 20 minutes in the first episodes and the length of the episodes increases from one hour 20 to 50 hours towards the end. There are things to laugh about as much as you like. Therefore, it is not boring at all.
Drama to be seen as a must. This stretch is only for those who are interested in watching. After the last episode, it seemed that it should not have been possible .. The mind-filled drama that goes through all the human emotions, from time to time it seems to see those beautiful scenes again ..
See and experience

Despite the fact that I'm not good with words, I still want to review this one. In one word, this is a MASTERPIECE. Beware, it'll left you with such a nostalgiac feeling, you can't help wanting to go back to your teens. But even if you are hesitating that it might left you emotionally stirred, still give it a go. You DEFINITELY won't regret it. It's worth your time and emotions.
It portrays friendship, teenage, love, maturity, aduthood, relationships and life in such a way, I felt I was living with every character. You can't help but fall in love with its every character. I mean how can't you. It felt so real, so warm and heart-wrenching to watch their journey from being mischevious teens around the neighbourhood to mature adults. It was an emotional roller-coaster ride for me. I felt so emotionally attached to a drama after such a long time. I have so much to say about this drama, but words won't be enough to describe how much I loved it.
Slice-of-Life and family dramas are either a major hit or miss for me. Reply 1988 was in my PTW list for such a long time. I wasn't much impressed with Reply 1997 so I was hesitant as to how might this one turn out. Recently, I completed A poem A day and someone recommended Reply 1988 there. To fill the void left after watching APAD, I gave it a go. And I am glad I did.
It was heart-warming to see the relationship between the families around the block. They felt more than a family. Those ahjummas sitting outside the house, chatting and sharing their worries was something I loved watching. It's amazing how they portrayed every aspect of life, everyone's worries, concerns, dreams, regrets in such a beautiful way.
One thing I strongly felt after watching this drama is that Second Lead Syndrome is real here. From the start, I was rooting FL with him. I was pretty much sure she'd end up with him. I wasn't even giving ML a chance, but then it happened. Just to be clear, I love Park Bo Gum. And I didn't even knew Jung Hwan's real name nor I remember seeing him in any other drama. BUT! i fell so hard for him in this one. I was so in love with his character.
I mean it was justifiable that FL ended up with ML. He loved her so much. Still! it breaks my heart everytime I think about how Jung Hwan used to watch Duk Seon from his room's window, how he used to protect her in the bus, how he waited for her outside the house just so they can take bus together and the unforgettable confession scene. It was so heart-touching. I haven't seen any confession more beautiful than this. Or maybe I am being biased, whatever.
Also, the acting, the dialogues everything was so good. It surely is 10/10. A MUST watch. I hope it may help someone in dillemma, decide to watch it.

The best kdrama I've seen so far
You must watch this one, it changed the way I look into kdramas. It was so refreshing, funny, sad, emotional, inspiring, everything at same time. Each episode can make you cry and smile at the same time. It also have a great rewatch value. This one is a must watch for everyone, if you haven't watched it yet then I'm not sure what you are doing ?. One thing that I noticed was how nice every single characters were, I mean I couldn't find any character who I found annoying, I think this is the only drama where I've seen such things. I'm still searching for something similar to this one to watch, at last I think this drama has its own unique genre that will capture you into it and you will not regret watching at all. Don't have second thoughts thinking that since it's based on year 1988, it might be periodic drama and boring. I mean that's what I thought at first and avoided watching it for long, but once I watched it I regret not watching it before. Now I've probably watched it at least 3 times already.Esta resenha foi útil para você?
