Just me and my cup of tea

These are just movies that I like with weird artsy editing and storytelling (or not). I mostly just  like the vibe these movies give. Kind of strange and visually pleasing... Not sure if they are my favorite movies tho... So I will be only listing movies.

I have seen some evolving happening in this list. So maybe the vibe will change as I grow older?

I would love to add some movies from across the world to make this list complete, but sadly MyDramaList is still only all about Asian stuff (which is fine, but I love how this site works and would love to have all in the same place... So maybe one day <3) So here are the other movie titles that I would add in this (in no special order):

  • Paprika (2006)
  • Sucker Punch (2011)
  • Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
  • Isle of Dogs (2018)
  • Jadesoturi (2006)
  • Fight Club (1999)
  • Night is Short, Walk on Girl (2017)
  • Nausicaä (1984)
  • Jennifer's Body (2009)
  • Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) and Volume 2. (2004)
  • Donnie Darko (2001)
  • Millenium Actress (2001)
  • Vita & Virginia (2018)
  • Nope (2022)
  • Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
  • Tove (2020)
  • The Menu (2022)
  • The Whale (2022)
  • Bound (1996)
  • My Own Private Idaho (1991)
  • The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)
  • Breakfast On Pluto (2005)
  • Suspiria (2018)
  • I Saw The Tv Glow (2024)

They are in some kind of watch order. With the latest one being in the bottom of the list.

  • Lady Vingança

    1. Lady Vingança

    Korean Movie - 2005

    8.0

Just my style! Enjoyed! (I think I need to see this again tho so I can see if this is still as good as when I first saw it :/ )

just saw it again in 2024. :/ not sure i like it as mutch. It got a nice things in it but it got little hard to follow and it kind of dragged. I remember the visuals being more. Got little bit dissapointed about it tbh... It's still interesting watch and has many element that i like.

  • Alice In Earnestland

    2. Alice In Earnestland

    Korean Movie - 2015

    10

I think thsi is like one of my favorite korean movies of all the time. The vibes are just right for me. It's and odd one with a interesting choices of filming it. The story is sadly one of those which might not be as interesting if you watch it second time. But for me at least the vibes are so strong that I don't even care xD

  • Anjos Caídos

    3. Anjos Caídos

    Hong Kong Movie - 1995

    9.5

This was beautiful! I really loved the scene where they where in that motorcycle! This may seem little weird at first, but it gets better. The music was just perfect for this!

Second time watching: It aged well !! Now I understand some things that I didn't when i was younger. It got even better now that I'm older <3

Third time watching with my friend, and this movie made her want to watch more movies from this director. My friend loved the craziness and hated the masturbation (yup... -__-) scenes (I believe this movie gets better after the mute guy is introduced and he is the main reason why my friend liked the film, or why I liked the film)

  • A Criada

    4. A Criada

    Korean Movie - 2016

    10

Just don't watch this with your family :D

I have only watched this once so this might also rely much on shock value and might not be as interesting if you watch it again.

    ______

There is also miniseries made from the same novel Fingersmith (found with the same name). I must say that the series is more sweet and cute. This miniseries version is good if you don't want to witness the sexual abuse part of this story (since the series don't have that). Also in the series the love don't feel as over sexualized (? if that makes any sense).
I think I actually prefer the ending in this miniseries (I haven't read the original work). I still kind of enjoy them both in their own way.

(This miniseries is also the reason why the director of The Shape of Water decided to cast Sally Hawkins as the main lead of The Shape of Water)

  • Desaparecimento: O Garoto Que Retornou
    10

    This is so sad story with so interesting concept ;__;

  • The Flowers of War

    6. The Flowers of War

    Chinese Movie - 2011

    10

This was just so tragic... so be prepared to cry. The acting was just 5/5! The character development was on point. I usually don't like war movies that much put this was so my cup of tea.

  • Boneca Inflável

    7. Boneca Inflável

    Japanese Movie - 2009

    9.0

This is so weirdly so beautiful. Philosophical and slow. I cried. But really it was a weird movie :D

  • Monstro

    8. Monstro

    Korean Movie - 2014

    8.5

This is surprisingly good. I really like the vibe. Sadly lot of the action scenes where too dark so you didn't really see what was going on... so I can't give it higher rating.  I think this would have easily been a masterpiece.
Loved the characters so much. And the pottery making was so funny because we have been lately talking with my friends how beautiful it would be that you could just be a beautiful peace of pottery when you die :D (definitely litle biased about this movie because of this) Ofc I find it really offensive that our great idea has been portrayed by a killer, but if I can't be useful while I'm alive can't I be at least a little bit useful after I have died ;__; (I really want to be a tea mug xD ...ok I will stop)

  • Eu sou um Cyborg, mas tudo bem!

    9. Eu sou um Cyborg, mas tudo bem!

    Korean Movie - 2006

    7.5

This is really weird movie. Also really visually fun!! Storyvise I think it kind of ended into nothing and it didn't really have and ending. But's its a wild movie.

I really loved the scene where she is in the sweatshop and hears the instructions. I also like how the story was told with a snips from the past. I just really fish it would have and proper ending. Because It felt like it was building itself up into nothing. Like it was left unfinished. Visually totally worth your time tho !!

  • Yurigokoro

    10. Yurigokoro

    Japanese Movie - 2017

    8.5

"...I was little scared of the self harm scenes. I never knew that I I'm really degusted with them ':l Maybe because you rarely see something like that" -my notes from first seeing this

But yeah, this was yet another of these type of movies. I keep thinking about this movie a lot. I feel like I might watch it soon again and maybe even change my rating after that. There where some things that I didn't like (like in the middle how the son acted), but I really liked this movie. You rarely see something like this.
I'm trying to think any movies that has a similar plot, but I can't really think of any...

  • Medo

    11. Medo

    Korean Movie - 2003

    8.5

Its just the vibe I'm looking for. Really weird and odd with some crying at the end.

The scariness was lame ':D I wish it wasn't there...

  • Náufrago da Lua

    12. Náufrago da Lua

    Korean Movie - 2009

    9.0

I think this is the funnies one of these, but I can't lie. I really liked it, and it had the prefect odd vibe to go in there :D!!

  • Felizes Juntos

    13. Felizes Juntos

    Hong Kong Movie - 1997

    8.5

This is also one of those films that I can't get out of my head. I really love the inner monologue in Wong Kar Wai -films and this also has it. I really loved the vibe of this film. It's really moody, but it has a sense of hope in it. Not sure if I would call it bittersweet tho?

I'm not even sure if this belongs here since it don't really have the odd vibe I'm going for?

  • Microhabitat

    14. Microhabitat

    Korean Movie - 2018

    9.0

So maybe this list is changing as I grow. This is not really a odd movie, but I really liked this. I guess it has a different approach to life (some might even say it's and odd one)?

  • Kamikaze Girls

    15. Kamikaze Girls

    Japanese Movie - 2004

    8.0

It's more fun than the toher one's in this list! But I enjoyed it a lot.
