2020 Chinese Dramas I've Watched
This is in *rough* order of how much I loved them, which is difficult because there are different genres and my ranking is influenced by whether I loved the acting, the romance, the characters, supporting storylines, aesthetics. If overall the drama was weak but the chemistry was amazing, I still might rank it higher than a drama that checked all the boxes but failed to resonate with me.
Note: "Dropped" means I actively decided to stop watching for a reason, while "lost interest" means I just didn't feel strongly either way and stopped watching.

1. Amor e Redenção
Chinese Drama - 2020, 59 episodes
-
2. Vá em frente
Chinese Drama - 2020, 46 episodes
100% a contender for my favorite c-drama of the year. Remember when I said keep an eye out for Steven Zhang??? He's great here. Tan Songyun cements her status as one of my favorite actresses. Song Weilong is great, too, and I can't decide if I liked him here more or in Find Yourself more, but I definitely recommend both!
-
3. Cat's Cradle
Chinese Drama - 2020, 12 episodes
This is so different from any other c-drama I've watched. Definitely not an idol drama. Thought-provoking and atmospheric.
-
4. Encontre-se
Chinese Drama - 2020, 41 episodes
Really enjoyed it! Funny and relatable.
-
5. Três Vidas, Três Mundos, O livro de Travesseiros
Chinese Drama - 2020, 56 episodes
I have a soft spot for the love story between the main characters. I wouldn't consider this my favorite and it's not the "best" drama but it brings me joy to rewatch some of their scenes together!
Also, I'm sorry but I will never be able to think of Vengo Gao without visualizing his white hair.
-
6. A Princesa Com Insônia
Chinese Drama - 2020, 35 episodes
Hu Yi Xian is so lovable as the female lead and her smile will light up your screen. Great chemistry with Zhang Yecheng and I loved their relationship. Plot was weak though, the zodiac premise confused me.
-
7. Doce é o Amor
Chinese Drama - 2020, 36 episodes
This is a reeeeally tropey romance, I didn't love the dynamic between the leads at the beginning but Luo Yunxi and Bai Lu were both really funny, had great chemistry and a lot of really cute scenes. The final episodes were terrible though.
-
8. The Centimeter of Love
Chinese Drama - 2020, 46 episodes
Loved the maturity of the two main characters, but their families were so stressful.
-
9. Minha Garota
Chinese Drama - 2020, 24 episodes
Fun (if you can suspend your disbelief) but the last episodes felt messy. Li Jia Qin impressed me with her acting and this drama did make me laugh out loud a loud.
-
10. Destino
Chinese Drama - 2020, 40 episodes
Ok, this drama was especially terrible in the latter half BUT I loved Li Yitong and I did like the relationship between the main characters.
-
11. O Lobo
Chinese Drama - 2020, 49 episodes
I know this seems like a low ranking but such a popular drama that people rave about... but this was a miss for me. I didn't feel moved by the love story.
-
12. Você Me Completa
Chinese Drama - 2020, 40 episodes
*currently watching* (placeholder ranking)
-
13. Love Designer
Chinese Drama - 2020, 45 episodes
I have low expectations for modern dramas. The first half of this is stronger than the latter half. The main romance is sweet. Supporting character storylines are woefully underdeveloped.
-
14. A Lenda de Jin Yan
Chinese Drama - 2020, 34 episodes
I know it's not the best and the female lead is somewhat silly and always pouting, the male lead is always catching her. But, I just really really enjoyed it??? I think they're so cute and love their dynamic.
-
15. Patine até o Amor
Chinese Drama - 2020, 40 episodes
Pretty good for a modern drama, but not particularly memorable. Will keep an eye out for Steven Zhang's future dramas though.
-
16. Love in Shanghai
Chinese Drama - 2020, 36 episodes
Felt like this drama was trying too hard but I did love the storyline with Victoria Song and Tony Yang's characters!
-
17. Renascimento da Viciada em Compras
Chinese Drama - 2020, 44 episodes
Just ok... wasn't a fan of the romance.
-
18. You Are My Starlight
Chinese Drama - 2020, 40 episodes
Oh my gosh, NO. The ridiculous way this melodrama went in circles again and again. The ending was so underwhelming, and I can't believe they actually killed off one of the best characters.
-
19. Dear Designer
Chinese Drama - 2020, 38 episodes
This was so awful and I recommend it to absolutely no one.
-
20. Nothing but Thirty
Chinese Drama - 2020, 43 episodes
Only watched two episodes but might pick up later! just wasn't the right time.
-
21. O Romance do Tigre e da Rosa
Chinese Drama - 2020, 24 episodes
Lost interest. Frequently with this genre, I love it initially and then lose interest halfway through... and that happened here too so I haven't finished it (but did watch the final episode, lol). The premise is SO interesting, I love that women hold the power in this city. I have mixed feelings about Zhao Lusi and feel like I always want to like her dramas more than I do. I liked Ding Yu Xi here after being underwhelmed by his acting in Intense Love.
Although, I wish that for once, the story would return to modern day and develop there as well.

22. Maiden Holmes
Chinese Drama - 2020, 32 episodes
Lost interest. I tried it and it was fine, but stopped watching it.
-
23. Xia Ye Zhi Jun Nuan
Chinese Drama - 2020, 24 episodes
Lost interest. I watched half of this as a filler drama... but once other dramas started I dropped it.
-
24. The Moon Bright For You
Chinese Drama - 2020, 36 episodes
Lost interest. I like Xing Fei but her acting felt out of place here. The way she kept smiling?
-
25. Caminho de Volta ao Amor
Chinese Drama - 2020, 26 episodes
Lost interest. Felt like a filler drama.
-
26. Perfeito e Casual
Chinese Drama - 2020, 24 episodes
Lost interest. Female lead was just TOO naive and made poor choices in the beginning... I do hear positive things about it so might finish it at some point.
-
27. O Momento Em Que Meu Coração Acelerou
Chinese Drama - 2020, 24 episodes
Lost interest. Zhang Ling He, who stars in Maiden Holmes, also stars in this, and I do like him.
-
28. Começar de Novo
Chinese Drama - 2020, 35 episodes
Dropped. I would consider picking this back up, but I was just so turned off by the female lead's behavior in the beginning.
-
29. Namorada
Chinese Drama - 2020, 36 episodes
Dropped. Initially I thought this was fun and thought it might be this year's My Girlfriend is an Alien. I was excited to see the actor who plays the male lead after his great supporting role in Story of Yanxi Palace. I like that the female lead stands up for herself. But, the male lead is just so immature! Perhaps will return to it eventually.
Also, I've seen too many of these rising starlet & CEO storylines.
-
30. Não Minta ao seu Amado
Chinese Drama - 2020, 31 episodes
Dropped, after 19 episodes. Amazed I stuck through it that long.
-
31. O Amor é Intenso
Chinese Drama - 2020, 24 episodes
Dropped. I have never been able to watch any of this female actress's dramas. There's something about her or the type of characters she always plays that I can't stand. I tried this out of curiosity but dropped it because I couldn't stand the instalove premise.
-
32. It's Not That I Can't Marry
Chinese Drama - 2020, 40 episodes
-
33. We Are All Alone
Chinese Drama - 2020, 36 episodes
-
34. As Flores no Pavilhão Ruyi
Chinese Drama - 2020, 40 episodes
Pass. I was really excited for this reunion of the Legend of Yun Xi leads but after I heard about how lacking the plot was, I decided it wasn't worth it.
-
35. The Killing of Three Thousand Crows
Chinese Drama - 2020, 30 episodes
Pass. Didn't catch my eye, not a Zhao Lusi fan.
