What To Watch When You're In Your Fifties Or Above

1. Mais Uma Vez
Korean Drama - 2020, 100 episodes
Once Again - What if your four adult children suddenly all move back in because they got divorced? This family drama is a heart warming and funny watch for anyone, but especially for those above 50. I loved how they grow together (again) as a family and how relationships are portrayed in every stage of life. Falling in love looks different when you are 20 vs when you are in your 40s or 50s. I loved how this drama basically is all about second chances. New career, new love, new family dynamic. Life is not linear, you can start again even at a later age - u/crowndrama

2. Meus Caros Amigos
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
Dear My Friends - omg I don't even know how to describe this drama. It just guts you to the heart. It's a slice of life drama of old friends and what they go through. There's lots of tears, but there's also happy times. It's proof that your life doesn't stop eve when you're past a certain age. This drama won the Baeksang for Best Drama in 2017. - u/MoodyGrump_14

3. As Credenciais de Uma Esposa
Korean Drama - 2012, 16 episodes
A Wife's Credentials aka How Long I've Kissed - this is an Ahn Pan Seok's drama, so naturally, it deals with a "scandalous" topic, i.e. infidelity. Kim Hee Ae plays a housewife who's repressed by her husband and in-laws. She always feels inferior because of her poor upbringing and her whole life basically revolves around caring for her son and even that, she's constantly criticized by ppl around her (who's doing much worse than her I might add). She met a guy on the street by chance, who coincidentally turns out to be her son's tutor's husband and also her dentist. They fall in love and got involved in an affair, but that's just on the surface. - u/MoodyGrump_14

4. O Mundo dos Casados
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
The World of the Married - another Kim Hee Ae drama. She killed it here. It's a remake of a British drama, Dr. Foster but imo this is so much better. Kim Hee Ae lives a seemingly perfect life with her loving husband and son, but is everything the way it seems? It turns out (not a spoiler) her husband is involved in an affair with a much younger girl, which prompts Kim Hee Ae on a path of revenge. This drama racked up all kinds of awards and when it aired, it broke records for being the most watched drama of all time. - u/MoodyGrump_14

5. Chocolate
Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes
Chocolate - Mature Leads. Overcoming past trauma and helping others to get through their hard times. Half the drama takes place in a hospice with beautiful stories from the patients. FL uses her gifts as a chef to bring comfort to others with meals that are lovingly prepared, foods that are especially meaningful to each one. Makes you appreciate life! - u/LcLou02

6. Quando Meu Amor Floresce
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
When My Love Blooms - Mature leads. A lot of the flashbacks give the story of their college years, young developing love, and involvement in protests. It is interesting to see how much their lives changed (He from poor, passionate protester to rich, compromised businessman. She from rich girl to poor, passionate protester.) And discover why that is. Slow burn romance. - u/LcLou02

7. Responde 1988
Korean Drama - 2015, 20 episodes
Reply 1988 - Brings a sense of nostalgia for those of us who are 50+. For Deok Sun and her neighbourhood friends who were in their high school years- coming of age, crushes, life decisions, relationships with parents, the pop culture at the time - even if in a different country, much is relatable. - u/LcLou02

8. Hiena
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
Hyena is a legal drama starring 50 year old Kim Hye Soo in a romance with 39 year old Ju Ji Hoon. Their chemistry is ??? - u/Borinquena

9. Meu Ahjussi
Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes
My Mister is the story of a 40-something salary man struggling with depression and his indefinable relationship with a young woman who is struggling simply to survive. Somehow these people with seemingly nothing in common bond and help each other heal. - u/Borinquena
My Mister - I don't know how to explain this drama. The story by itself is not that interesting but the characters are really well written and the cinematography, pacing, soundtrack is all perfect. Despite what the name might suggest, it's not a romance drama, there's a young woman struggling to provide for herself and her deaf grandmother, and a 40-something year old man having a midlife crisis (and no, he doesn't help her economically neither does he love her). Will always have a special place in my heart just because of how touching it was. - u/happynora

10. Minha Adorável Sam Soon
Korean Drama - 2005, 16 episodes
My Lovely Sam Soon is one of the all time great classic Kdramas and one of the biggest Hallyu hits of all time. It deals with grief, memory and what it takes to heal when you think you've lost everything. It's also a romantic comedy. Great for older viewers who won't mind the dated production values. - u/Borinquena

11. Hospital Playlist
Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes
Hospital Playlist - This one has two seasons and it's about these five doctors who're friends but deal with many individual cases along with always having each other's backs. I think this is also one of those dramas that will have an impact on you no matter what age you're of. Plus a lot of the cases focus on middle aged to older age people which is why this is highly recommended. - u/Fatooz
multiple seasons
-
12. Navillera
Korean Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
Navillera - It's about a 70 year old man who dreams of becoming a ballet dancer and his never giving up nature is super inspirational to even youngsters. The relationship between Chae-Rok and grandfather was the highlight of this drama and it's just 12 episodes of wholesomeness. - u/Fatooz

13. Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha
Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha - I absolutely adored the relationship between the three old ladies in this drama. They made me jealous because I could never have the friendship they had. It's a slice-of-life rom-com which has a great bunch of characters and it'll surely make a place in your heart regardless of what age you're at. - u/Fatooz
-
14. Goblin
Korean Drama - 2016, 16 episodes
Goblin - It's a warm and wholesome drama about this Goblin who has committed sins but also done many good deeds but is now stuck in between the living realm and the after life because of a curse and gift by God. It has a very poetic tone to it and the dialogues are so very deep especially the ones about life, death and deeds. I think it's perfect for any age especially for people above 50 for its tone mainly. - u/Fatooz

15. Minha Família Nada Familiar
Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes
My Unfamiliar Family - The main focus is on the FL in her 30's, but each member of the family has their own story - that they often have not shared with the others. The main theme of this drama is the importance of communicating with each other and not just assuming things. Very well written and acted. - u/LcLou02
