  • Nirvana in Fire

    1. Nirvana in Fire

    Chinese Drama - 2015, 54 episodes

    9.0

A great drama, full of memorable characters and wonderful characterization.  I both regret and appreciate having waited so long to give it a try. Some 'reveals'/'twists' felt a bit contrived, but it was overall a gripping watch in which I was deeply emotionally invested. This is definitely a drama I can see myself revisit every now and then and enjoy it just as much, if not more, than on my first watch!

  • Chuno

    2. Chuno

    Korean Drama - 2010, 24 episodes

    7.0

I didn't hate this. But I didn't love it either. The writing felt quite uncohesive. The drama was trying to be a lot of things and in the end, it didn't excel at any.  All these separate plot lines should have been linked way earlier than it was done and the drama could have been a few episodes shorter. Daegil's character really is the one (1) memorable thing about it.  I found the rest of it to be pretty shallow and bland for the most part. Most characters didn't go beyond their set-ups and female characters, especially, were very poorly treated.

    3. Na Direção do Amor

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    8.0

A breath of fresh air! A nice, uplifting, watch with surprising, but memorable, dialogs. Each character had their own quirks and while there are some I liked less than others, I appreciate the way they were written.

  • Escrevendo seu destino

    4. Escrevendo seu destino

    Korean Drama - 2021, 10 episodes

    5.5

A very harsh rating for a webdrama. But there was honestly very little I found to be actually good in this. The acting felt very green (even Jeon Sonee whom I really liked in the few episodes I saw of When My Love Blooms). The main leads had no chemistry. The romance, which is the main selling point of these stories, was very poorly written. The fact that I felt the need to fastforward at times when the episodes were only 20mns long is already a statement in itself...

  • Kairos

    5. Kairos

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    8.0

A  good watch, despite a pretty formulaic plot formula. The main characters were nicely written. Fleshed out enough for me to get invested in their journeys. The drama as a whole had solid writing for the most part. However, every now and then, characters made very dumb choices for the sake of creating suspense and it was incredibly frustrating to watch. The second half felt quite draggy to me, especially the last few episodes. Maybe 13~14 episodes would have been a better fit for the story.

  • O Indomável

    6. O Indomável

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 50 episodes

    8.0

I really didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did. It was both highly entertaining and addictive and I just went through the 50 episodes in less than a week. The show's got a great set of main characters and plenty of memorable relationships. Broken bonds being one of my many catnips in tv shows, wondering how JC's and WWX's relationship turned so sour is very much what kept me going for the first quarter of the show. And then I also slowly, but surely, got invested  in the main leads' relationship as well. I especially appreciated the way it evolved post time-skip. I do believe  some emotional moments lost their momentum because of overly drawn-out scenes and dialogs. But whatever the show lacked, especially when it came to its technical aspects, was mainly compensated by the cast's chemistry and how much of themselves they seemed to have poured into their characters. I actually felt a little tinge in my heart when I pressed play on the last episode of the show, realizing this would be my last time seeing its characters. And that alone, for sure, means The Untamed must have done something very right.

  • A Caminho do Céu

    7. A Caminho do Céu

    Korean Drama - 2021, 10 episodes

    8.5

This was very good! Probably my favorite kdrama produced by netflix so far. It had a ton of heart and the characters were especially lovable. The deceased's stories all were very moving and yet, the show didn't feel too sappy. Sang-su's boxing storyline did feel a bit... overdone (?) But I did appreciate what the show did when it came to his relationship with his brother. Lee Je Hoon was great, as always. But I was especially surprised by the actor who played Geu Ru! I'm looking forward to checking out his future works.

  • Missing

    8. Missing

    Korean Drama - 2020, 12 episodes

    5.5

Interesting concept, but poor execution. The writing and the acting felt very underwhelming. Characters acted nonsensically and I just felt irritated towards most of them. Oddly enough, though, the character interactions were cute despite that. And it was basically the one thing which kept me going. The cases following the first one weren't particularly surprising or memorable. And the resolution of the main conflict was pretty lame...

  • Desgraça ao Seu Dispor

    9. Desgraça ao Seu Dispor

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    6.0

It didn't make much sense and it overall felt very pretentious. PBY and SIG's great chemistry is what motivated me to continue. Didn't care much for the rest of the drama,  be it the plot or the characters.

  • Além do Mal

    10. Além do Mal

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    8.5

Solid writing and great acting all around. I had a very good time watching this show. It did feel like the drama lost a bit of its steam from around episode 12 to 15, but the ending was satisfying. The characters were memorable, but not particularly likeable and I personally didn't really get emotionally invested in the show as a whole which is why I'm not giving it a higher rating.

    11. Há uma Razão para Vestir o Amor

    6.5

A cute but not particularly memorable romcom.

  • Bossam — Roubar o Destino

    12. Bossam — Roubar o Destino

    Korean Drama - 2021, 20 episodes

    7.0

I really enjoyed the drama until episode 12. I didn't feel emotionally invested in anything which happened afterwards. The character development took a hit following the restoration of Ba Wu's nobility and my interest in the leads' relationship slowly waned following that event too. Their interactions turned a bit too formal for me to really feel anything. It's also a shame Cha Dol's character was pretty much written off the drama in the latter half as the found family aspect of the show is really what got me early on.

On another note, I also wasn't a big fan of the circular, almost spiral-like, narrative structure this drama had. It didn't allow for any kind of big, dramatic events that would have led the drama's pace to finally pick up. And in the end, everything felt a bit stale/mellow. I appreciate my sageuks a bit more when they're cathartic and let me feel intense emotions.

  • Minha Família Nada Familiar

    13. Minha Família Nada Familiar

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

Loved this! The characters felt very humane, the cast had wonderful chemistry, and the acting was top notch.  Special mention to Eun Hee and Chan Hyuk whose relationship is probably my favorite friends-to-lovers one in kdramaland.

  • Loucos Um Pelo Outro

    14. Loucos Um Pelo Outro

    Korean Drama - 2021, 13 episodes

    7.0

Surprisingly not bad. I wasn't sold by the first two episodes. But following them, the drama found its footing and I found myself having a pretty good time watching it. The last few episodes and that ending were pretty meh, though.

  • Em Busca do Smash Perfeito

    15. Em Busca do Smash Perfeito

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    7.5

A lovely, uplifting show. I'm not a fan of the 90 mns long episodes and I definitely feel like they easily could have been cut down to a more standard length. Problems were a bit too easily solved at times and it had its fair share of cheesy moments. But I really liked the kids and enjoyed watching them grow over the course of the show.

For a show that was marketed as not "romantic", the romance was actually its best aspect. There were some fresh ideas when it came to the zombie-formula, but nothing was truly explored to its full potential. And most of the characters were absolutely insufferable. I also found the dialog to sometimes be jarringly awkward. I don't know if it's partly due to the translation. But it felt quite unnatural at times.
