Cute and lovely CP | Great crime and investigation scenes but unfortunately got a Half-arsed Ending!
Standing apart from the crowd allows one to calmly assess the entirety of a situation." - Han ZhengFinally, A long overdue review. I unintentionally procrastinated watching the last 6 episodes of this drama because I got distracted reading a couple of stories from my favourite author. Another thing is that I lost my interest quite a bit because I got spoiled by the ending from watching too much snippets from Youtube. My bad! I swear not to do it again (as much as I can Hahaha).
Anyways, this is one of the dramas I find easy and light to watch as we are focused on mainly 2 things. First is the progression of the main leads love story and second is them solving cases; which made it particularly more entertaining and easy to follow because I don't really have to constantly think critically of what might happen. And although it involved various complex cases that needs to be unraveled, I just find myself watching it leisurely without really minding how are they gonna resolve it. I guess it really has something to do with it being an "Idol drama" which helped me watch it with ease and without any reservations and overly high expectations. I even came to the point where I told myself to just enjoy it as it is and stop overly thinking of the plot; and I must say that it actually worked because I got to let go of my obsession and concern on how the story will unfold.
The crime and cases are well thought and the investigation process were done impressively in a clever and entertaining way. However, I feel like they gave the spotlight and credits too much on the FL to the point where I felt weird about it after just watching the first 10 episodes. I understand that she's the main "brain" of this story but there are just so much time when I felt like the credits aren't properly given to where it's due. It never appeared to be forced because of how well it was presented however as time goes by, I developed this significant feeling that she's getting so much more compared to what she actually deserves and worked for. She got pushed so much that I find it inorganic and weird because I know that the other characters worked even harder than her yet she's receiving most of the recognition and glory from it all. Not to mention how she typically handles her cases in an amateur and novice like way as if she's new to the job. I would say that she's carefree to the point of being careless. I am just glad that the ML was always with her while resolving almost all of her dangerous cases because she might have been long dead if he is not.
When it comes to the story progression, I would say that they spent plenty of time with all the occurences on the first half of the story that they lacked a huge amount of screentime at the end to address and deal with the main antagonist/hurdle of the show. The last 15 episodes of the story was rushed and I just knew how they most certainly had a hardtime with the editing and stuff because of how time constraint they are with the #s of episodes they got approved of (I don't know much about distribution licence but it surely is connected to that). Overall this impacted the drama a lot (objectively speaking) as anyone can visibly see and feel how quick things are going on (I can't even use "dealth with" because they didn't even show that to us) and how are we jumping from one scene to another without any proper explanation of what had actually transpired and how we arrived to the result they have showed us.
In terms of chemistry, I'd say that they all fit in with perfection. I never feel any awkward aura for all the characters and I can even feel the synergy and mutual affinity of the actors of this show. The vibe of the whole production team must have been light for the drama to exude this comfortability.
Lastly, the Ending...and as I mentioned above, it really left a significant impact to the whole show. Because what do you mean we're getting the revelation of the main antagonist, Final fight, resolution and conclusion of the story at the last 2 episodes of the drama? They never even provide as a proper wedding scene. Grr!
Story - 8.5, Don't get me wrong the story is actually good and WAS on a good pace however it's the Editing Team who didn't consider the entirety of the show and have decide to screw the ending which resulted for the whole drama to look incomplete and half-arsed. What a waste of good story honestly.
Acting/Cast - 10, I won't pick on the actors' acting because they did it according to how to story required them to do so and its genre. But I would love to commend Li Yitong and Bi Wenjun for nailing their respective characters. This is my first project of them both and I like it a lot already.
Music - 10, I'm not gonna lie, I love the music! Opening is really cute, easy to listen to and entertaining; same goes with the inserts music/tunes. The placement of the songs are good too and is always on point. Kudos to the Sound/Audio Team.
Rewatch Value - 8.0, This honestly is a good drama overall and I can give it a higher rating only if they exert some more effort on showing us the ending. I still feel bad on how it was too JUMPY at the end! We missed and was robbed of a lot of scenes. Daheck!!
Overall - 9.0, Despite all of my feedbacks above, I guess I am just glad that they still end this happily and in a good note. I would at least commend them for keeping it light and easy to watch until the every end (But that was just TOO easy to watch). Nonetheless, I still hate the Editing Team for submitting such incomplete and lacking work and for the Director for approving it.
IF you find my review helpful please let me know.

3 Reasons to Watch
Warm on a Cold Night:The summary sound cringey too me and I was afraid it’ll have too much fluffy romance. I’m on ep 24 now and I have to say the romance when it does happen isn’t cringey at all. As if to avoid cliche scenes, the production team/scriptwriter seem to reinterpretation all cliche romantic scenes with a ton of sarcastic humor (anime/comic kind of humor). The humor seem to strength the ml and fl’s chemistry rather than being overly fluffy/cringey type of romance. The story from what I can see focus on the story/crime of this made up universe. It’s actually refreshing and interesting. It’s also nice that the fl and ml are both evenly clever, compatibly clever 😊.Acting: Li yitong’s acting is amazing period. She completely made me believe that she’s a young lady again as supposed being 30+ years old. I haven’t watch her in any drama for awhile. Watching her again made me remember why I love her acting so much. I also suspect that with her excellent acting she must have help her costars to get in character when they were acting. The ML I’ve never seen him before but his acting is pretty good too. I feel like he was pretty on point with a lot subtle expressions. He definitely has room to improve. But not once I thought his acting wasn’t good enough or that he was out of character. Enjoy his character a lot. My sister kept sayin he isn’t good looking. But I think he looks fine. I love his interpretation of his character and that’s what most important for me.
Clothing and hair: I have to say. I can tell this isn’t a highly budgeted drama because the fabric of their costume looks a little thin and cheap. But whoever designed the costumes made them look so cute and amazing (colors of each garment complimented really well with each other that make the costume stand out).. FL costumes are plentiful, colorful, and cute. I love the embedded colorful stones on the qi people’s clothing. General/sister’s red and white costume is my favorite (white over and red under creating an inside out look) and her hats are cute.
Camera/fight scenes: very awesome. I don’t know how to describe it wonderful interesting angling/swinging of the camera capturing unique moments of fight scenes. I want to point out the filming is amazing. Beautiful and interesting. Helped gave more excitement to fight scenes that might have been seen as normal/bland to certain audience.
I’ll probably rate it when I complete it. From where I am at ep24 this drama definitely deserve a SOLID 8.5 rating. (I actually finished the drama but realized I forgot to save this in reviews)

Tepid
I went into this due to ML and FL. Starting was good MLs and supporting cast was good. Half way through the series i started getting annoyed with FLs attempt to control the ML and she trying to compete in the bureau. There are so many plot holes that it is obvious that they trying to force the scenarios. Romance part is okay but no chemistry. FL is acting like a spoiled brat and it keeps getting annoying and it never ends. Li Yi Tong for the first time i felt she does not have much range for emotions, he r acting was tacky. Biggest plot hole is in the last episode won't disclose it here but you got to watch it. Ending felt rushed. I was frustrated it suddenly ended.Good part is Yang Shi Ze rocked the look and part of prince Wen Ying, looked dapper.
My two cents, if you have nothing to watch then watch this .

Blows hot and cold
What i liked:The fight scenes were really awesome
The acting was good enough
The cases they solved were good and well written though a bit dragged out
Some side characters were really awesome
The plot twist was really good, i kept second guessing myself
What i don't like:
The storyline could have been much better
The main characters were not written well, i would have hated the characters if not that the actor and actress pulled it off in a way that made it tolerable
The ending was not good enough, they did not give us any conclusion on the other characters
Too many plot holes, i had to suspend my common sense for a bit.
Overall some aspects were really good but some aspects were not so it's somewhat in the middle for me. The cases was what made me keep watching. Would recommend but definitely not rewatch.

Did you run around in gym class on all fours as a kid? This one's for you!
Spoiler FREE review. In this delightfully fun story of Jiu'er, the sickly assistant of the local police, and Han Zheng, the werewolf she befriends, we get a lot of fluffy foolishness and the semblance of a plot. Listen, if you came here for a start plot to keep you on your toes, sit down because the ending is going to slap you in the face a few times while punching you in the gut. Are there loose ends? Yes. Does it matter? No.
You fall in love with these characters and that is what upholds the entire drama. The acting is well done with just the right amount of goofiness to make it funny but not cheesy. The main couple have great chemistry despite my initial doubts.
Great for: lazy weekend watches, sick days, staying up later than you should, and stuck-inside-bc-it's-a-hurricane-outside.

Enjoyable watch, dont take it too seriously
I didnt skip any episodes!!! This show is adorable, easy to watch and i enjoyed the chemistry between ML and FL. 2nd ML got on my nerves a bit in the love triangle but it wasnt too bad. Some people commented on plot holes, like its meant to be a fantasy themed investigative show. So dont quibble over the details. Its a super slow burn cute romance. Overall i enjoyed it and as someone who skips eps/drops dramas a lot, I finished it without do either, which makes it a good show for me. If you want something to watch to relax and entertain you instead of frustrating you, then make sure you watch this!Esta resenha foi útil para você?

There is no reach to PERFECTION but this one was very close to that
A story that you can cherish as a re-watch ..I am going to put it in point for better understanding.
A) Points that make it a series worth your time :
1. blend of huge range of genres (romance, comedy, action, thriller, suspense, feel good, crime & little melodrama) a perfect balance of all .
2. An amazing cast ... Not just the leads but even the supporting cast was the best ... Cant point a single glitch in the cast.
3. A story with good writing and consistent pace. plot was to the point and writing was indeed remarkable...there were no cringe/ cliche' as far as dialogue writing is involved ... All characters have nice screen timing and their dialogues complimented the characters in a way that viewers will feel attached.
4. Chemistry between characters/connection between the character was indeed perfect ... We often look for chemistry between the leads ..but in this particular series I felt the warmth of every relationship..like the character of Su Jui'er's mother was so beautifully played that you can actually feel it through the screen ... Same goes for Chi Lan's sisterly love for Han Zheng or Jun'er's friendship with Han Zheng and Su Jui'er,her God father's love for Jui'er . We often ignore the connection between side CHARACTERS but this series made these relationships so impactful almost impossible to ignored.
5. fantabulous fight scenes and clean VFX ... I rarely re-watch fight scenes but in this particular series I actually replayed the fights scenes quite a lot of times.
6. No absurd kitchen politics or vamp slapping bullshit ... The story was clean ..there were no cheap concubine/ex-fiance crap... It was just about two people who come together by fate ..fall in love ... Chose each other to spend their lives with ...simple as that ...and that's how I personally like it.
7. Even the villain was handsome ... Entire main cast was good looking specially male characters ... Han Zheng , Jun'er , Crown prince, Mu yan etc including Female character like chi Lan.
8. Female characters with amazing action scenes ... I enjoy the series that have female characters performing action scenes ... ChiLan provided me with that thrill.
9) LOVELY CLOSING SOUND TRACK
10) happy ending ...
B) Points that I felt about this story that could have been worked on :
1. Female Main lead character could have been better ... I loved her character so much ..she is smart ..comic ... Independent... Intelligent... Beautiful.. but I still felt her character lost a the emphasis during final few episodes .. may be because they wanted to portray her as a saviour of the entire Qi clan but I personally expected her to come up with some smart alterative solution instead of just giving up on her life, given that she was the smartest character of teg entire series I can't just accept her to chose a flat and boring solution. If you know what I mean.
2. Some characters just disappeared in thin air and never got the final verdict ... For example the character of Qian king,he appeared in previous episodes then he disappeared like that ... Come on he was the king atleast Give him some scenes especially when you are discussing political matters between two tribes you are supposed to put some scenes with their leaders.
3. Happy ending but with loose ends ... Where the hell did Mu yan go ??? He was the main villian, still he got a single episode appearance ... On top of that he was not given any closure.
4. Plot unexplained - fragments of story like ..death of real crown prince-princess, Jui'er's father's attempt to steal the Qi amber fire, mu yan association with snow flake organisation ...etc ..there were a lot of fractions in the story that were left unexplained.
5. Crime cases were quite less ... Single case took more than necessary time to solve which lead to inability to accommodate more important things .. in my opinion the crime cases were stretched a way too much.the writers could have accomodated more details in story if it were not for the stretched cases.
6. Happy ending with absurd twist ... ML becoming simple Quin and FL going bizzare with Qi powers was the most childish and nonsensical ending twist that I have ever seen ... For a story with a wavelength like this one I didn't expect such irresponsible twist .. I would have appreciated a rather simple ending instead of this cheap twist.
Taking all points in consideration I still think the good outweighs the bad by many folds ..
**** making it one of the best shows I have ever seen***** ..
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED ( just watch it you will not regret )
Re-watch value : good

Watchable but badly executed
Boring investigation cases have ruined the plot. The drama needed to be only 24 episodes with 30 min per episode for it to be fabulous
The ML lacks personality.
The FL is slightly annoying with her cute acting but the actress has some charm
The most standout performance and show stealer is Yang Shi Ze. He's got a magnetic screen presence. Would love to see him in a main role

love is beginning
The story is good and catchy in second half some episodes becomes difficulty to understand dew to screenplayIt's not an fast or slow drama it's gradually moderate its covers allrounder of audience because of the cinematography
In acting all actor and actors are well seasoned their character especially second prince Wen Jun, Chi Lan are best in new way
The main lead [ Li Yi Tong ] Su Jiu Er --- & --- Bi Wen Jun [ Han Zheng ] ther chemistry is outstanding in all the scenes i hope they Join again in some projects i like to see more both of them in more dramas as a couples both of them are perfect match

detective historical fantasy with strong start & cute chemistry but sizzles out
It has potential for so much more, but what it is right now is that it's enjoyable enough. The main couple has the tropes of smart pure girl/smart (bad) boy with a bit of star-crossed lovers feeling because he's a prince, she's just a normal person, he's from a different race than she is. However, they can't help but come together since she needs him physically (literally) because something about him helps with her physical health whereas she's smart and clever enough to help him with his own investigation.
It's enjoyable enough thanks to the cuteness and chemistry of Li Yitong and Bi Wenjun. I think they really make this worth it. The storyline though starts to drag about midway to 2/3 of the way. I kept wondering when it'll come back to the main plot that got male lead investigating in the first place. It really feels like the cases don't even connect until the very end where the plot twist is, well, that. (I personally didn't care for the plot twist and was actually quite disappointed.) Also, there were cases to do about the two different races but I feel like it doesn't go quite deep enough...
Anyway, about 2/3 of the way, I ended up watching it on double-speed or fast-forwarding through scenes because it feels like none of it really matters. My score of this drama is also impacted by the fact that I got super attached to one of the characters that ended up, uh, not being what I wanted. I felt like it was badly written.
So I won't be returning to this drama anytime soon. Maybe for the cuteness of the couple and definitely Bi Wenjun since he's super good-looking. But this drama isn't memorable enough for me to return to it often.
