I have seen both leads in other series and they always deliver but they were both outstanding here particularly YYS.
I wish there’s a compilation of all the couple scenes on the net somewhere. Would play that on loop for sure.
The theme song “See The Light” somehow sets the mood on the couple scenes like a ballad would on break-up scenes.
Would definitely watch this series again

Final Thoughts
When The Phone Rings is a mesmerizing romantic thriller that masterfully intertwines suspense with emotional depth. It tells the story of Baek Sa Eon, a stoic yet enigmatic figure, and Hong Hee Ju, a resilient woman battling selective mutism and a haunting past. Their relationship evolves amidst a backdrop of mystery, love, and healing, as Hee Ju’s veiled threats and Sa Eon’s protective instincts unravel secrets that bind them together. The show balances a slow-burn romance with gripping tension, delivering powerful themes of trust, growth, and vulnerability. With its poignant storytelling, dynamic character arcs, and atmospheric visuals, it leaves a lasting impression as both a love story and a captivating thriller.Esta resenha foi útil para você?
what a journey it was
when the phone rings is indeed a drama worth remembering because being relatively simple at its core, it brings in a tremendous psychological complexity of its characters and their relationships as well as a nicely developed plotline (though i wish some plotlines weren't so sidelined, but that's just a minor detail).a nearly perfect drama that carried us from 2024 to 2025, and i couldn't be happier about that.

When Your Wife Calls
I thought this series would lead me back to Kdrama. Unfortunately, it failed me again. This is your another clichéd Kdrama full of murder, crimes, political and family rivalry. I'm here supposedly for the romance. But, the romance I am hoping for took a back seat in the story. Oh yes, it started again with that aloof, domineering, snob character of the ML. Which expectedly would make a turn towards the end of the drama. Yes, everything is predictable, from the crime itself, the childhood flashbacks, the orphanage and the romance itself. Very poor storyplot. Lots of unnecessary characters like the sister of the FL who didn't play a significant role at all, FL's colleagues in the court or judiciary. The idea of the burner phone is too lame for me just to express ones feelings. Even poor execution of crime solving. Like, a car that can be easily hacked and operated by a culprit but a simple burner phone cannot be easily located or even decoded by the Office of the President. Like, how inefficient such office can be?
Anyways, this is a wasted potential. If only the writers focused on the romance, instead of the too overly used crime trope, it would have been much more interesting. Yes, this is a total slowburn. Why let the audience wait for the finale for a married couple to get intimate? Can't it be at least halfway thru? or better yet, after the wedding ceremony itself since the feeling is mutual anyway. Would have been much better if they have kids in the finale.
Mysterious Love or My Lethal Man Cdrama is way better than this.
I was suppose to give this a 7.0 for the minimal romantic interaction between the leads. The actors were all awesome. My first time to watch Yoo Yeon Seok in a drama. Second time for Chae Soo Bin as first seen her in I'm Not A Robot. Still, gave an overall rating of 8.0 for the intimate finale scene. Definitely, chemistry was there. Another overrated drama.

Never a dull moment
I loved this series. I was hooked from the first episode and was invested until the very last episode. It was definitely the show I looked forward to the most each week. Everyone's acting was on point, making me second guess who I thought the villains were and what was going on with the plot. I had 5-6 correct guesses and many incorrect guesses. I usually do better than that. It was so much fun watching this and unravelling the mystery each week.Esta resenha foi útil para você?
A Tale of Two Families
Somewhere inside this melodrama is an excellent story about two people who have trouble communicating with each other and their journey to overcome all and finally open up to each other honestly. The use of the phone calls, sign language and other motifs help to tell this story in a creative away. What is more difficult to achieve in this drama, and where I feel things fall apart a bit especially towards the end, are the more classic drama storylines involving two powerful families with dark secrets and the triller/kidnapper psychotic son. The story simultaneously feels over-bloated and too simplistic - something about the story just does not work by episode 12. However, this is primarily a romance tale, and the superb performances of the cast, particularly Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin as the leads carries the drama to a solid ending.

This was good TV
I am only going to list out everything I liked about this kdrama. I love the OSTs 'See the Light' and 'Numb'. I loved the cinematography. And all the meaningful details they put in with thought that enhanced the love story, mainly The wedding ring. Great chemsitry between the leads- it was old school electric.Mostly I loved all the side characters(love to hate the evil Baeks tho But not my Frankenstein's psycho- hes tragic in his own way). They are all well-rounded and I got attached and was so happy the final episode gave every single one(not 'em Baeks) a happy ending. I love how the step-sister turned out to not be nefarious. And I loved how gentle the second leads were and I only wish they had got more screentime both for themselves and to show more their interactions(I wanted to see Sang-woo see the real grown up kidnapper at least once and also meet his No. 1 fan and fellow commiserant Park Do-jae. And for Yu-ri to finally have that long convo with Hee-joo...). The way boundaries were respected and their feelings were dealt with was refreshing. Reporter Jang is the MVP of the drama. Real Sa-eon's actor(Park Jae-yoon) also gets my respect on his brilliant portrayal which made me feel for him and wishes on his future.
More than anything I love, love, love Mr. Kang and Park Do-jae. Together and separately. I love their stupid bromance and every bit of second-hand cringe war over Sa-eon they are in together. I felt sorry for Do-jae after the reveal. And Mr Kang is a pure ray of sunshine and goodwill. And I adore Mr Kang's 🥕 pens.
But most of all I love Hong Hee-joo and her absolute boss attitude. I called her eonni-ya with utmost respect in my mind.

One of the best of 2024!
This drama went straight to my list of favorites for 2024! I absolutely loved everything about it—the story, the actors' chemistry, the incredible OST, the cinematography, and those plot twists. Everything felt so well done. Waiting each week for a new episode was pure torture, but it was totally worth it. (´・ᴗ・`)I couldn’t resist and ended up reading the novel, and while I don’t like to compare, I have to say there were things I loved more in the drama and others I preferred in the novel. But I won’t go into too much detail since I’m not planning to write a super long review.
I can’t skip over the chemistry between Yoo Yeonseok and Chae Soobin. Oh my God, those two were phenomenal! All their mukbang scenes had me kicking my feet and giggling like crazy. I swear, I’ll never get over them! (〃ノωノ) ❤️ Their connection went beyond the screen—you could even feel it behind the scenes. They’re both so professional, and it really showed in every scene they shared.
That said, while I loved the drama overall, I’m a little unsure about the ending. Don’t get me wrong—I enjoyed it, but I guess I was hoping for more romantic moments between the characters. After all, they spent years being indifferent to each other, and when things finally worked out, it’s natural to expect a bit more payoff after all that drama. Also, the whole Argan storyline felt a bit over the top to me. Even though it’s true to the novel, I think it might have worked better if they had tweaked or toned it down a bit for the drama. But honestly, I’m so in love with this that I’ll let that slide, lol. I really liked this Kdrama, and I’m really going to miss it and the characters. It’s definitely one that’ll stay with me for a long time! ❤️

Pretty solid drama
It was full of dramatic twists and turns, a well-acted and compelling set of characters, and it was just a bunch of fun. It's not a show where you turn your brain on to think about how "logical" things are; it's a drama, intended to have dramatic moments, regardless of how much sense they make. While some plot elements were repeated (plenty of hurt/comfort for those who are fans), they made them slightly different each time which made it not feel repetitive. I think the two main leads really made the show. Both actors did a great job, and I think they had good chemistry. Some of my favorite scenes were when Hong Hee-joo was speaking on the phone to Paik Sa-eon, as they had great banter during those scenes. I think the length of the show was appropriate, as it didn't drag on and overstay its welcome. Nor did it feel like they cut the show short or rushed the ending. Overall, it's a pretty solid show.Esta resenha foi útil para você?
yeonseok & soobin
story: some plot holes but overall things make sense in a very unique way. i love that.acting/cast: it's hard to sound neutral when their chemistry affects me to a very deep level. if you're not afraid of being driven insane by them, experience it yourself. trust me - you don't want to miss this.
music: superb. flawless. perfection.
rewatch value: this has a lot to do with personal preference but i'd rewatch again and again for 10% minor details and 90% the leads' performance.
overall: i've switched to cdrama for a long while, this is the only kdrama that managed to pull me back into k-ent industry again.

great show
great show but where are the kids I feel like that's kind of my standards for a happy ending so I love it if I'm being honest the show is really all right I will say is the not the best show of 2024 but even so the beginning was really a roller coaster of emotion the middle was all right anyway ending was completely useless if I'm being honest overallEsta resenha foi útil para você?
