Last Twilight (2023)

One of the best BLs out there

This one really surprised me.
The way the characters were developed, how the atmosphere was good and how the story was solid until the end are highlights and are also the things I expect when I watch a BL, like the development of the brothers' relationship, it was one of the things I wanted to see , and it was very well done.
There are some irregularities, but that doesn't take the charm away.
The last two episodes took some turns that I wasn't expecting and kinda took me out of the experience, but it didn't ruin the entire BL for me because some of the magic we saw throghout the other episodes kinda started to happen again in the last episode.
Plus, everything here is so cute (the cast and the story).
Really good.

Overall well- made but not without issues

I personally am of the opinion that Day shouldn’t have regained his eyesight bc, as some people have already pointed out, it not only doesn’t add anything to the story but actively takes away from it.

I was actually positively surprised when Day didn’t regain his sight when he received the first eye donation. It brought more weight and depth to the story bc before the surgery, even when he slowly started to get used to the situation with Morks help, Day still lived with the hope that one day he will become “normal” and will be able to see again.

The fact that the surgery didn’t work was an important story point and a huge milestone for Day’s character development. After that, Day needed to come to terms with the fact that his blindness will (most likely) remain permanent and that forced him to let go of the hope of regaining his previous way of living and forced him to accept a new one.
An end of something is simultaneously a beginning of something else and the story made a wonderful example of it. After the unsuccessful surgery Day slowly started actively dealing with the situation and ultimately embracing his new way of living. He started seeing himself as part of the society, albeit a bit different from most people, and he still wanted to participate in life as actively as other people do. This was a huge deal for his character development and he managed to do all that by the end of the series so why was it necessary for him to regain his sight? It wasn’t. It didn’t bring anything new to the table and actively undermined the message of the story, which I find quite sad tbh.

When it comes to the romance, I liked it overall but I wish they gave the characters a bit more time before Mork confessed. The whole relationship build-up felt a bit awkward bc at first it seemed like the both of them started to slowly like each other around the same time (kind of). We see Mork starting to become more aware of Day and the same could be said about Day ( the “goodnight” moment etc) but the show suddenly decided to blindside it’s audience with Days confession towards August. Still, till then I was still on board with it, even after Day told Mork that the latter wasn’t his type, but then they got together pretty quickly after that and it felt slightly off. The show should’ve given them about one or two more episodes to develop Days feelings more before he accepted Morks confession.

The break up felt quite forced too. It makes sense that Rungs death would weight heavily on Mork but if that was supposed to be a big deal and part of the break- up reason the story should’ve incorporated the plot point way sooner and not quite so randomly. The worst part of it all is that we don’t even get to see Mork getting to terms with the situation.
There is a 3 year time skip and suddenly we are supposed to believe that he has dealt with it now and therefore is super happy and heathy and ready for a new start. It doesn’t work like that though.
These issues need to be explained and dealt with properly - by actively showing the audience how a character gets over it. You can’t just invoke a time skip and announce that everything is in the past. It’s called “Show, don’t tell” and not the other way around for a reason. Overall the last two episodes were ridiculous but the rest was good and the topic was unique and important so I’m giving it a high rating.

BORING

This series is the most boring series I've watched in a while but i have a few things to get off my chest :
1) Day's character is the most selfish spoiled brat character I've seen , he's a a master at gaslighting ( gaslighted Night about him going blind because he drove night home but didn't even look at the road while driving , blames Mohk because he didn't want to go to hawai or wherever the f , broke up with him and blocked him not acknowledging ANY GOOD THING Mohk did for him and even told his mom "should i forgive him after what he did" 😭 b- what ?! Making it sound like Mohk was beating him everyday, little brat and even when he asked for a second chance he said " i decided to give ME a second chance " not us but it's logical since his character is all about ME ME ME all the time
2) The finale was atrocious , same boring copy paste time skip finale , director did it in 1000 stars where tian left for the US 2 years , did it in Bad buddy where Nannon left for 2 years in Singapore now Mohk leaves 2 years in Thaiti ...... Like can't you be creative ?
3) they made Day regain sight therefore defeating the whole point of this series about being happy and adapting NOOOOPE the message was if you're blind and want a happy ending you'll need to be RICH and have 1 or more TRANSPLANTS oh and to SEE 🤣 what a waste of time this series was 🗑️ they did the whole cringy "leaving wedding and running to the airport romcom scene" because Day doesn't care about Night anyway his love life is more important than his brother's wedding ( he made his brother leave his wedding and run after the guy he JUST REJECTED ) eeeh god i hope the director never gets another series again ( if he does , expect a 2 year time skip at the finale )

Just watch this

I caved and watched the series, I was unsure if I wanted to watch it ONLY because one of my biggest fears is going blind, and shows that have this topic, make me anxious because my eyes are already bad but I was in the right headspace so I decided to give it a go. I was not disappointed and thankfully I was able to finish because it lives up to the hype on TikTok.

Jimmy and Sea have perfect chemistry, no one can take that away from each other and I hope they continue to work together for a long time because I truly think they were made for each other.

It's so refreshing to see Mok be a perfect character, he never cheated on Day or anything that you see in other series, All Mok wanted to do was care for Day and make sure he was taken care of, as well as worry about him but not letting Day know that. We need more characters like him.

The story is so beautiful.
The cast did an amazing job.
Acting is crazy.
It became my favorite bl and it’s not even finished yet. It doesn’t matter if they give us a happy or unhappy ending because the story itself is so beautiful. The way they portray the feelings, it’s like you can feel what they fell.
Absolutely every one of the cast actors/actresses do an amazing job.
You watch it and know that what they do they do it from heart.
Jimmysea are unbelievably amazing actors.
Hopefully this series and actors will get the hype and recognition they deserve. ❤️

This series changed the trajectory of my life!!!!

This series really took me on a roller-coaster of emotions that i was unknown to, from start to finish it was just getting better and better with every episode. I've never cried so much during any series and it really wrecked the sh*t out of me but in a good way . And boy when i tell you ep 9 is my roman empire i really mean it!!! I just loved everything about this show specially the casting was so good like jimmysea were really made to play the character of mhokday, they nailed every second of their screen time. The direction was so good as well, the sceneries and cinematography really shined through, it was really something i have never experienced in other series ( and mind you, I've been watching bl series from. Past 5 years) . I can’t get enough of jimmysea, they are really talented and hardworking and i hope they get to work in more amazing series like this.

Great, but not too good

This series was great. Amazing acting, visuals, directing, music etc. There were many things I liked and disliked:
+ Sea's acting as a visually impaired person was really good
+ Beautiful cinematography. Reminds me of NLMG and MC
+Beautiful music
+Great main story
+Mark
- Jimmy's (or Mhok's?) random "mhm" sounds. I need more than two hands to count them all.
- poor character development. Mhok was a bad guy but suddenly turned good? Day turned from annoying and depressed to happy in one night.
-Was that 'meeting dad again' thing really necessary?
- Forgetting the whole meaning in the end
-The last episode is like watching a whole different series
-11th ep breakup was unnecessary and too frequently used.

Ep 9 was the best. The only time I cried.
It should have been the last episode, because after that it started losing the grip.
The whole last episode was rushed and full of time skips. It was like watching a comedy show. Night and Porjai running to an airport with wedding dresses. I don't know what Thai people do during wedding nights, but I don't expect that.
The last scene would've been a lot more beautiful and meaningful if they gave more time to it. At least one part, not a few minutes in the end.
Overall a great journey 👍🏻. Lots of emotions and so on.

A Brink of Hope that we all need.

Last Twilight gave us another representation of living as a blind person, and a love that they deserve. The series does not only revolve on Day, as part of the representation, but also this series covers the in-depth reality of what is happening in our current situation today. Every character in this story mirrors the realistic struggles and stigma in every aspect of life: whether it be health, relationship, parenting, family, unhealed traumas and etc; and each one of them represents the emotions that is set to reality: validation, epiphany, fear, hopeful, remorse, guilt, denial, disappointment, frustration, and happiness.

This series can catch the viewers’ attention and have a divided perspective on how they perceive every scene that were put as you run through it. The viewers may not easily empathize the situations especially if they don’t have any experience. Before you watch this series, keep an open mind and do not let your emotions control you because you will get to appreciate the series and how it brought wonders, that led them to be one of the highest rated, not only GMM but also to the entire BL series released of all-time.

There are a lot of takeaways that you can learn out of this series such as, but not limited to: being able to live normally, stepping outside your comfort zone, stages of grief that most of us are going through whenever we have upheavals, rejected relationships and perspective distortion. This series might also deceive you that you might get out of touch with reality because of how domestic the relationship the main couple displayed their affection throughout, however, there’s a balance of everything that was well put together. I have never seen such BL series with plots like this and depicted the realistic tone of life, that it’s not only love is the only solution for us to live happily, but also the sense of individualism and growth that we all need in order to move forward and grow as individuals so that when time comes for us to settle in (on your discretion) a relationship and uncertainty, we already come to terms that we must heal ourselves before our castle will only eventually crumble if we don’t make peace to ourselves.

Let me put my thoughts on each aspect: Story, Acting, Music and Rewatch Value

Story – 9.5/10

This story is one of Aof’s passion projects instead of getting the actors popular by this point as what I can perceive. He didn’t instrumentalize someone’s disability for his works to be more popular, but its purpose is mainly for us to empathize with the struggles of being a disabled person. Not only by being blind but also other disabilities and how we treat them on a normative situation like they are ‘special’ that we have negative connotations about them like how he also gave a representation of the deaf in Moonlight Chicken. He didn’t only use disability as the main story’s medium, but also the realistic view of hope that is divided in two ways, the cognitive distortion to our own beliefs because what we best believe is proven to be already the ‘best’ we can think of, carrying the burden of the things we never get to do when someone’s still by our side and how we can transfer it unconsciously to the one we love and philosophical concept of black and white. Together with Aof’s direction and how the novel was written, the synergy of the two came into slight changes and how it was done perfectly without us asking as to ‘why’ and ‘how’ things happen because at the end of every struggle, there’s a message of ‘hope’ we can get and it will make us more feel motivated to live in our terms. This story is truly inspiring, and everyone will feel validated because what happens in the series also reflects to our own struggles which will make us more engaged and relatable.

Acting – 10/10

Aof choosing Jimmy and Sea to portray Mhok and Day is the best move. As I watched the pilot trailer from GMMTV 2023, I can see now why they are meant to be Mhok and Day and how it suits them given their work before like Vice Versa can also resonate to Last Twilight. Not only Jimmy and Sea, but they put all the best actors by far: Namtan, Mark, Ohmtpk and Film like where will you find a series that there will be a perfect lineup. I have never seen this kind of series to have the best lineup and each other them delivered everything they can offer. As we saw them on their previous works, this has led them to put an extreme effort and showcase what they can show on top of their best performances before. All of them improved especially Jimmy and Sea. With all the GMMTV’s BL couples, they are a breath of fresh air with Vice Versa as an experimental introduction incorporated with a new concept. We saw another side of him that most of us cannot visualize how he will pull off Day and Mhok, and how they can pull of heavier roles. They deserve more works to be honest, I hope GMM can take advantage of the success.

Music – 10/10

As someone who is really into music (not a music major), one of the most important things that I’m looking for in a series is how they were able to put the instrumentals and OSTs. The OSTs for this series is at the top-tier, together with the strings that made us feel the anxiety over what comes next, and also how they are being executed was well put together. One Palm Distance gave us the nostalgia, centennial and vintage vibe that made us want to dance with grace; Blame the Stars brought us two version that bring us comfort and romantic feeling and Last Twilight that made us all cry. If GMM can release a cassette or vinyl version of Last Twilight’s OSTs then I am definitely seated to buy a CD.

Rewatch Value – 10/10

Having a couple with JimmySea and how rare they appear on the public events; this is a worth of rewatch to feel another roller coaster ride. Just prepare your tissues and again, do not let your emotions control you. Rewatching this will give you another perspective and how this series is perfectly made that will let you gain a new perspective and eliminate the biases that isn’t necessary for growth.

At the end of the day, what we want the best of ourselves is growth so that one day we can reflect our past version of ourselves, we can tell how much we have come this far and we are ready to step forward again to enter again in a healthy relationship (not only with love, but also to the society) with an open mind and heart.

A disappointing story for a disappointing day

No. Just nope. Didn't feel it, didn't like it. I was prepared for controversial end episodes, but nobody prepared me for just "not feeling it". I didn't feel any chemistry, any emotions, any love, especially from Day towards Mhok. That's why the love triangle trope gave me such a harsh time. In the end it seemed to me as exactly oppositte of what's said - seemed like Day is pitting Mhok for having feelings for Day a thus agreeing on being boyfriends. Rushed af from having a crush on August to kissing with Mhok. Not to mention the fact that Mhok from "you're not my type" point had to carry all the chasing and basically be a substitute for Augustus with fricking "August was better" lines from Day. Not surprised that I felt like Day just settled with Mhok and I felt really sorry for Mhok as I'm very triggered about these kinds of relationships, taking it as the one (Day) is just exploiting the love from the other (Mhok).
Dropped after 8th episode, even though I wanted to watch this till the end as an excuse for not working on weekends. Suddenly the work seemed as time spent better than this.

Felt like a breath of fresh air.

This is the first time I'm posting a review since I've created this account .

This is series is simply a breath of fresh air...the acting...the cast...the chemistry between the leads...just 4 episodes in and I'm already in love with everything.

After seeing two leads, I already had high expectations and I'm beyond satisfied. From start of episode one to end of episode 4, I didn't stop smiling once. Looking forward to episode 5.

If you're contemplating whether to watch this series or not, I advise you to watch it. Trust me, you most definitely won't be disappointed.
