Good Enough

Korean Drama " The Tale of The Nine-Tailed Season 2 1938 " is the continuation of the story of the 2020 fantasy drama.

This time, the story goes back in time, focusing on the family bonds, rather than the romance, which, in this case, was limited as a subplot, which really aided the drama.

The drama, in addition, blended smoothly the action scenes with mythological and historical elements, as well as with more emotional plotlines along with enjoyable comedy.

The costumes were, moreover, spot on and pleasing. The performances were great as well.

So, overall, 8.5 out of 10.

Didn't watch first season? NO PROBLEM!!

BETTER THAN SEASON ONE!

Although this does have romance, the main focus isn't about it!

From the beginning of the first episode, it is filled with action, amazing humor, and amazing cast of characters!!

Really goes into details about the brotherly bond, friendships, and overall integrity of the whole theme!!

Great storyline as well, really could watch this season on its own~ But really makes you fall more in love with the mains from the last season. All the sides stories were heart wrenching and even the villians were entertaining and really played their part!

Also the music + songs were top tier !! Really got you in the moments of justice, sadness, and excitement!

A very enjoyable drama - whether you watched the first season or NOT! Recommend!

Eye Candy Over Substance: Why 'Tale of the Nine Tailed' Fails to Impress

As a friend who wants to guide you through the maze of television dramas, let me tell you this: "Tale of the Nine Tailed" is a profound disappointment. It's a series that seems to promise so much but delivers so little.

Let's begin with the effects. In the era of sophisticated computer-generated imagery, where viewers are treated to highly realistic and immersive visual spectacles in other shows, "Tale of the Nine Tailed" falls flat on its face. The effects are so poorly executed that they rip you right out of the story. They do not blend seamlessly with the live-action sequences, and instead stick out like sore thumbs. They are far from convincing or realistic, creating a visual dissonance that disrupts the viewing experience.

Next up is the script. A compelling script is the backbone of any successful drama. It pulls the viewers in, makes them care about the characters, and keeps them at the edge of their seats. However, the script for "Tale of the Nine Tailed" failed to capture my interest. It's not that it's bad, but it just doesn't have anything unique or interesting to offer. The dialogues feel stale and the plot lacks any fresh ideas or intriguing twists. Instead of leading viewers through a maze of surprises and revelations, it feels like a lazy stroll through a park we've visited too many times before.

And the fight scenes? They are not just poorly choreographed, but downright embarrassing. In an age where we've seen the heights that television fight scenes can reach, "Tale of the Nine Tailed" seems to be stuck at the bottom. The movements of the actors seem stiff and unrealistic, the timing is off, and the whole sequence seems hastily put together without much thought or effort. It's like watching a poorly rehearsed school play, not a high-budget television drama.

One might wonder then, why is this series so popular? The answer lies not in its storyline or production quality, but in the appeal of its lead actors. Yes, the actors are good looking, and they do a commendable job with what they are given, but is that enough reason to watch a show? Shouldn't we be demanding more than just a pretty face on the screen? Shouldn't we want engaging storylines, well-executed action scenes, and convincing performances?

The popularity of "Tale of the Nine Tailed" seems to underscore a concerning trend where style is prioritized over substance. Where viewers are more attracted to the superficial aspects of a show, like the attractiveness of its leads, rather than the depth and quality of its storytelling. This is not to say that good-looking actors cannot be a part of quality shows. On the contrary, when combined with a strong script, meaningful character development, and quality production, they can enhance the viewing experience.

In conclusion, I urge you to think critically about what you choose to watch. Don't let the good looks of the actors cloud your judgment. Do yourself a favor and give another series a chance, one that prioritizes substance over style. A series that respects its viewers and does not take their time and attention for granted. After all, there's so much more to good television than just pretty faces.

Brotherhood, flying baby, hide and seek... Is it a comedy hour? YES!

An unexpected error leads Lee Yeon stuck in 1938, where he reencounters not only his younger brother Lee Rang but also his past soulmates: a guardian spirit of the west mountain and an ex-friend who seems to have suspicious schemes. Lee Yeon needs to return to the present to complete his mission.

When I got to the first episode, they did a quick recap of the first season, and then we have our Lee Yeon, he's being really snarky, right off the bat the story was really hilarious. and I'm enjoying it so much! The whole drama gives anime vibes, amazing cinematography, and is full of beautiful scenes. They have flashcards featuring the main characters' bio, personalities, strengths, and quirks. Also, Lee Dong Wook promoted this show very much on his Instagram, it makes me feel the rush and the hype! If you're in for light, a bit nonsensical entertainment, with eye-candy characters, this can't be more perfect!

Production quality is top-notch! (except for the weird train CGI, but it's nonetheless super entertaining). Also, the visuals and cinematography are much superior in this 1938 season than in the first season, including the OST collection. You don't need to watch the previous season of Tale of the Nine-Tailed. It's completely different vibes despite the same cast. The characters feel similar, they have the same personality as they were in the first season, and they feel like themselves. Here they are so much funnier too. I mean there is a slight creepyness too here, but the first season was just so scary to me. My favorite part of the first season was the brotherhood of Lee Yeon and Lee Rang, and here they highlighted this aspect so strongly, so I really enjoy that aspect.

Another thing I like is the mythical creature here is still highlighted in this season, and it's quite episodic. It's kind of monster-of-the-week, but they still do not lose the overarching plot that is our Lee Yeon is trying to solve his case and get back to the future. Because again, he's on a time crunch, he has to go back soon. I think that the story didn't waste much time to set up this premise from the very beginning. I feel like they pace it very well in these 12 episodes.

What I like less are the last few episodes and the ending. They're too cartoonish and unbelievable. The protagonists seem to gain more superpowers towards the end as they can just escape death by creating thunder, immune to zombies, and get saved by true love! Well, it's all forgiven because we got a happy ending after all :)

A Captivating Blend of Action, Fantasy, and Compelling Storytelling

Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 is a captivating series that mixes action, fantasy, and a well-crafted storyline. It has a really interesting time-travel plot, strong character growth, and impressive visuals. It surpasses its predecessor, with a more solid story. The funny moments add a nice balance, and the series does a great job of exploring the complex relationships between the characters.

The relationship between Lee Yeon and his brother, which plays a central role this season, is explored in a meaningful way, bringing depth and emotional impact to the story. The same can be said for his relationships with his two childhood friends. Additionally, it also builds on the love story from the first season, as Lee Yeon's determination to be with his loved one creates a more compelling dynamic than their actual relationship.

definitely a tale of nine-tailed fox brothers haha

Right so... where to start?
Honestly wasn't prepared at all for this considering I finished the first season right before I started this one- and was still a little emotionally wrecked from Rang's death so seeing him in the second season almost immediately had me two a double take. Actually happy though because Lee Yeon and Rang's relationship makes the show for me if I'm being completely honest. I think it should've been the series' whole focus. And the whole concept of LY having a month to spend with Rang again after missing him for so long was something that I definitely enjoyed. The new characters that were introduced helped carry along the plot more so than the first season, but the second half of the series was slower than the first, so there were some bits that kinda bored me. First half of the season I really enjoyed, since we didn't have to deal the FL from season one being a vulnerability to LY. However, it seems as though both LY and LR were stronger in the first season than the second, and LY's famed nine-tailed abilities aren't as powerful as the first season. I was hoping the we would get to see a more powerful side to him, but so far I've only seen it twice- once with the shinigamis, and once when the 1938 LY confronts future LY. This could be due to the fact that LY isn't in his original era, meaning his abilities could be hindered, but there may also be a chance that this is just poor writing. With Rang, I'm not sure but he was definitely more powerful and capable in the first season. Now having watched the last episode, it definitely redeemed the series for me, as we got to see both LY and LR's abilities in full, which was more on par with season one, at least in Rang's case.
Speaking of Rang, don't know how I feel about the romance with the mermaid. I feel like it was forced and the love at first sight trope doesn't really work for me. The concept of them both being half-bloods was a good choice, but I would've enjoyed it more if they started as friends and the mermaid aided Rang in some way... possibly as a spy?? I think the ending made me like their relationship a bit more, but I'm still kinda meh about it. But seeing Rang at the end taking care of 1938's LY is something that I wasn't expected, but is a good way to leave his story in 1938. Anyways, Moo-yeon's "death" was something that I knew was going to happen, but I hadn't thought that his shell of a brother would be the one to" kill him." His reappearance was also a surprise, but it was well-written in regards to LY and the fortune god. Hong-joo and Moo-yeon were both characters that were new additions this season, but I think their appearances gave us a glimpse of another part of Lee Yeon's past, in addition to the fact that I just liked Hong-joo in general. The fact that the three of them end up protecting Joseon in the end is another key point that made me really happy. All in all, the scenes remain stunning and the certain elements I've already named above don't take away from the fact that this drama would be a total masterpiece. The euphoric moments of happiness and peace coupled with the pain and suffering characters experience throughout the plot is what makes this drama special as it takes you on an emotional rollercoaster and makes you truly feel something.
Is it pleasant? Not always. Will I remember the moments that made me so pissed off I wanted to talk to the writers personally? Yes. I mean like seriously they relied too much on the actors bc they were the ones actually carrying this drama like can we please just do better at writing >:///. Ugh anyways- Do I remember the emotional turmoil that is the the pure happiness of one scene bleeding into a scene of sorrow that made me want to bawl my eyes out? Yes. I may not be mentally nor emotionally ready for season 3, but I'm curious to see where it will take me.

Badass FL + Stunning ML = Satisfying Ending!

This is a BIMBIMBAP of a show. It's a mixed genre, mixed eras, mixed concepts of everything, LOL. Just name it, it's there,! But it's exactly why it backfires, a little.

It really hurts me to minus 0.5 out of 10 from this show, but I really can't stand the Yatchas! If I need that many zombie scenes, I'd be watching walking dead, I am here for the FOXES! I ended up skipping all the zombie scenes, despite Lee Rang being in it!

Other than that, all is good! I love the plot twists and the happy surprises. My favorite? Lee Rang's sweet romance! Our baby fox is now dating! Also, love how he awakened fully as gumiho towards the end!

Needless to say, I love Lee Yeon + Lee Rang's brotherhood. It makes me cry each time, their acting is SO GOOD!

It's a rare show where I actually love all of the characters (beside the evil ones, lol)...

I love our Jindo!! He's my new favorite, and of course, all the FLs are badass!

Finally, a show where the FLs do not need to be saved!

We've a mix of woman empowerment of FLs + eyecandy of handsome MLs, what else can we ask for?

fantasy and interesting

It is one of my favourite drama. If you love fantasy dramas it is a must watch. This drama has comedy and horror elements too. But it is too good. The love its first season also but it is good that the first season. I love the bronmance between lee yeon and lee rang.I think it will have third Season because of the loose endings.I want lee rang back in third Season. The female lead in the first season is bit irritating but She is not in the third Season. It has Zombies too .If you watch it once you will forget it

Perfect sequel

I absolutely loved "Tale of the nine tailed" season 1 so when I found out a season 2 was coming, I was really excited. Especially when I found out it was set in the past. But even though I was excited to see what this new season had to offer, I never expected to love it so much, In fact, I never expected to love a sequel as much as the original season.
Tale of the nine tailed 1983 is hilarious! I enjoyed every moment. It was also very emotional and the finale when Yeon fought the villan was just perfect in everyway. I also loved the setting. The antique, fancy vibe was very pleasing and pretty to watch.

The plot of this season is just amazing. It perfectly mixes together many different genres and plot points and also expands a lot on the things we learned in season 1. I know the time travel trope to catch the thief or a magical object was pretty cliche but it was worth it to see Yeon back in time. Firstly, even though I loved Yeon and Ji Ah's romance in season 1, it kind of seemed like she was the only person who truly mattered to Yeon. Yes I know he cared a lot for his brother, Shin Ju and even the old hag but at the end of the day, Yeon's whole purpose in life was to search for his love and he spent 600 years doing this. It felt like his life was purely dedicated to only her and even though I thought they were great together, I wish we saw more of Yeon besides his love for Ji Ah and this season perfectly gave that. In this season, we got to see Yeon without Ji Ah, We were introduced to his old friends, got to see more of his relationship with Rang and learned more about his childhood. It felt very nostalgic and beautiful to see him reconnect with his childhood best friends and it added many more amazing characters. We got to meet other mountain spirits and saw many more magical items.

I also love the Japanese colonial period setting. I know many people think its too controversial but since I never knew much about it before watching this drama, I was very intrigued. i think it added a great side plot and it made the drama feel more diverse and interesting because besides Korean they also added Japanese actors and characters and that felt cool to me because I never really watched and Japanese dramas before.
And of course, I loved seeing Yeon and Rang bond. I know their ending in season 1 was very touching, but it didnt quite feel enough. To see Yeon and Rang truly grow to love eachother and look out for eachother in this season was really fun because they spent most of season 1 fighting. I loved seeing their brotherly love and the way they were always there for eachother.
Rang and the mermaid were really cute together too, Im glad he finally gets a romance plot!

The actors are as always, perfect. Lee Dong Wook keeps impressing me. He's perfect as Lee yeon, there's something about his face and his acting that just feels so unreal and magical. perfect for a mountain spirit!
The actors for Hong Ju and Moo Yeong were both new to me but they were also perfect in their roles, and of course Kim Beom was as amazing as ever.

The OST's were just as good as season 1. I loved all the songs and music in this drama, especially the OST they played whenever showing flashbacks of Yeon's past with his friends. It was very nostalgic and sweet.

I keep rewatching this drama and I have not a single complaint about it! I love the ending too. I was sad that Yeon would have to leave, but the past version of himself taking his place really made it feel like a perfect ending.
So basically, this season is a must watch! I love everything about it. Its very different from season 1, but in the best way. 10/10!!

I mostly love that we got a happy ending for 1938 Rang

A lot of wholesome moments in this series. Their brotherhood is incredible and I was overwhelmed with emotions, I was even shaking when Rang was crying in Yeon's arms...
I loved how Yeon was able to mend and restore his relationship with his childhood friends and helped Rang settle down and find love...
I was overwhelmed with emotions cause the drama was so good. I loved the bromance, the story and the characters, everything was well done.
It's been a while since I was so satisfied and happy with an ending.
I'm definetely looking forward to their season 3.

This was nothing short of perfect!!

This season was more like an adventure and everything fell perfectly in its place to create an entertaining drama.
Storyline : 10/10
Character built-up : 1000/10
Comic Timing : 100/10
Villains : 10/10
Action : 11/10
Music : 10/10
They gave a fascinating twist to the fight for independence and bringing in Japanese gods was also fun to watch. Also, the fact that all main cast and supporting roles got proper screen time, depth, and character development was flawless. I have nothing but only good to say for Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938.
Everyone did a great job in this series. ❤️?
