Wrong Choice

This review does include spoilers, so don’t read any further if you don’t want to know one of the major plot twists.

Having watched k-dramas and movies since the early 2000’s , Han Hyo Joo is one of my favorite actresses and was the main reason for watching all 28 episodes. However, from the perspective of a man, I was not happy with her character choosing Hwan instead of Joon Se. For me, in the end it just made her otherwise amazing character seem less genuine and less likable. If she had chosen the “right” guy, then I would have rated this a 9+ instead of a 6.5.

Otherwise, it was entertaining, fun, very much a soap opera, and probably only worth watching now (2023 or later) if you’re a big fan of any of the actors.

I didn't hate this drama, but i'll be honest that it was a struggle to make it through the last five or so episodes. One character in particular with their pathetic "Oh, if only there was a way I could be a better person without actually, you know, having to be a better person and do the right thing. But alas, I guess I'll just have to be a pathetic sad-sack who blames everyone around me but myself for my own poor life choices." would make me want to turn it off. In the end, I actually fast forwarded through that particular character's scenes in the final episode and a half because I just couldn't take it anymore.

One of the most interesting intriguing and heartwarming dramas I have seen. It starts out very slowly, takes too long to introduce the characters so hang it there it worth it. This is a story that you just can't believe is happening. It keeps you engaged and interested throughout. Only one flaw in the ( a bit of a spoiler), it would have been more logical if the father was given a case of amnesia, within the story. Other than that the story is full of interest and is very engaging. I just can't believe that someone could be that unscrupulous.
Although it a bit dated it is worth watching as one of the best dramas, you won't be disappointed.

The Power of Timing

I first started watching this drama because I was trying to get into longer dramas and as this one had such glowing reviews, I decided to give it a try. Soon it was clear that there was not much to the story aside from cleverly timed cliffhangers.

Many things are going on in this drama. There is a love story, there is envy, betrayal, corporate greed, family troubles, but mostly: missed encounters. That pretty much kept this story going and the plotline flowing without anyone important meeting. Simply put, they could not meet. If they did, then everything would be solved right away. For me, that was the only thing that kept this simple and predictable drama going.

As for the main characters, they really tried my patience. Over the years I've watched my share of obnoxious, shallow, and completely out-of-touch male leads, but this one was hard for me to swallow at times. I think back then they pushed this type of character way too much. I love a good redemption story, but these types of characters really grind my gears. As for the female lead, she was the stark opposite. So much that she became bland and boring at times. I dislike characters that just take everything laying down. It's unfortunate when bad things happen, they are out of your control. But if someone comes at you, you are allowed to fight back instead of crying.

Overall if you like a repetitive makjang with plenty of crying, a ruthless stepmother, second male lead syndrome, and more episodes than needed, then prepare to suspend your disbelief, because this drama is for you.

Eun Seung is FREAKING WEAK . Like omg. Why is it so hard for her to stand up for herself??? creating THIS kind of drama is weaksauce. Open your mouth and say something! Explain yourself!! How does she not see the enemies around her?? How dumb do you have to be to put so much trust in the person who purposely lost your brother?!??!?! that you are looking for???? Like wow. This drama , I don't understand why it is so hyped. It's good as a time eater but it's not the greatest. Its more so annoying alot of times.

And the music is so repetitive. They use the same little snipets.

I finally finished the drama. Damn. I hate dramas that make me want to punch my computer but at the same time they are so good you spend 28+ hours watching it. LOL. It's good guys. Yeah it has it's quirks but I found out it's a makjang haha. Okay. Makes sense.

This drama is one of my favorite Korean dramas. It is just amazingly pure. The story line is a bit frustrating, but I like how the story goes. This drama also made me like the main lead Korean actress Han Hyo Joo, and she is now my favorite Korean actress. She did well in this drama. I remember how I struggled just to see this drama and I think it was all worth it. All my friends who have watched this drama also like it and so it made me think that this drama is really one of the best.

The male lead Lee Seung Gi in the drama is pretty decent, I think he just started acting since he is not that good in portraying sad scenes just yet.

I did not particularly enjoy this drama as everything was expected and most predictable. I watched just to see the chemistry between the main leading actors. Lee Seung Gi (Hwan Sun Woo) acting left a lot to be desired, perhaps this was one of his early attempted dramas. I noticed that it was right after Shining Inheritance that all of Lee Seung Gi's dramas became very good My Girlfriend Gumiho, King2Hearts etc....

As for Han Hyo Joo (Go Eun Sung), she is simply beautiful talented and one cannot find much fault in her acting. Loved her in Reply 911, Always etc.

However this drama Shining Inheritance was pretty mediocre.
