Binge watch it and it'll be much more engaging.

The BAD:
It starts a little abruptly. I was like: is that it? They're already married, huh? That's unexpected...but not in a good way, because there was no buildup to this event. This theme of "rushed events" continues throughout the whole series. Basically it feels like the producers were so short on funds they had to cut everything short and make it super concise. That is why, a lot of situations presented in the series, and actions the characters take, seem to have little reason or explanation. I'm sure there is a backstory to them, but it was omitted in the show.

The DISPUTABLE:
At the same time, a lot of scenes are semi-silent and long, but this is arguably one of the traits of Korean moviemaking. To me, this is adorable, but I MIGHT be biased because of my heritage. Personally, I love it done this way, but when a single episode is this short I can see how people might not get it.

The GOOD:
I actually enjoyed the story a lot. I also liked all the characters, which is rare for me. The characters are very hot, but again - I might be biased. The final kiss is one of the most beautiful BL kissing scenes I have seen. If nothing else, at least watch the damn kiss.

One recommendation I would have is: binge watch the series and it will give you a much better experience (episodes are very short too).

Nothing notable happens in the series : cute but short..

I'm glad that SK is taking baby steps in producing more BL content. Even though most of the previous shows that they produced have short running time, the cinematography, acting and OSTs used on those shows were still good.

This time we have another BL show with a different setting (historical).

It's a good start for SK, a stepping stone for future historical BLs. Nobleman Ryu's wedding had the typical fast paced plot with the main characters briefly meeting and falling in love with other. There were scenes that were cute and funny, however, it somehow fails to appeal the viewers. (This is just my perspective as it depends on the viewer's taste)

It could have been better or it could have been sweet and adorable if the story focused more on them getting to know each other because the downsides of this series is that they had to add a rival and then a sibling that doesn't approve of the main couple's relationship who constantly interferes and annoys the main lead which overall made the side characters be of a nuisance than a help and the entire series to be pretty much, bland and overly dramatic for just a short series..

In addition to that, due to the short running time and fast paced story, I actually wasn't much invested on the romance between the main characters.. Moreover, I didn't see much of the chemistry between them..

In conclusion Nobleman's Ryu's wedding is something worth watching I guess if you want a series that is short and fast. You can still be entertained despite of its shortcomings but all in all, it entirely depends on your interests. Personally, I would give it a below average rating but since the production value for this series is not that big and SK is taking a few steps forward in producing BL content, I gave it a chance.. Enjoy watching.. ;)

The romantic and heartwarming story of two men who kind of like each other, mildly enjoy each other's company and wouldn't mind spending more time together possibly as long as nothing else came up.

This show has no chemistry, no sensuality, no kilig and definitely no passion. The two leads just exude a lukewarm appreciation for each other that translates to a calm friendship. I've seen bromances in Sageuks with more sizzle and they didn't expect me to believe they ran off together to - presumably - read books together while fully clothed. Which they could have done without the remote locale.

At a mere hour, the show wastes a lot of time on flashbacks to moments where nothing happened as the two men reminisce about those times they were mildly and politely amiable towards each other in private.

Considering the lack of anything remotely resembling a romantic connection between these two and the fact the bulk of the plot is about Nobleman Rue's "wife" coming to terms with her place in his household, this comes off as a story about how a man discovered he liked having a wife. Something that he could have had without running off with a man.

A good part of this problem is caused by the woeful acting, especially by Lee Se Jin. When will these shows stop casting third rate Idols to clunk around looking uncomfortable?

Overall, this show is tepid and nonsensical and while that means it's an inoffensive watch I wouldn't recommend it.

well, it's a simple story.

are you looking for a drama with a complex, thought out storyline and realistic potrayal of a mlm couple? then keep looking. are you looking for a cute, short and simple little comedic drama that you can finish in one sitting? then stop looking. obviously this drama isn't the best, but it's not the worst either. the plot is rather simple and basic; an arranged marriage and someone pretending to be the opposite gender. this drama also has the typical korean bl style, a movie length drama squished into a series with short episodes. if you don't take this drama too serious, expecting a realistic historic korean drama with

Good enough

Korean Mini Series 'Nobleman Ryu's Wedding' was an interesting take on BL genre, as this time it takes place during the Joseon era. And whether that opens a big space of opportunities to explore, the drama opts for a more cliche approach.

That is, the story starts in an odd way, as the two meet under the most unreasonable circumstances (like, he didn't look like his sister, how the transition from him to her would have ever work?). On top of that, and even though Ryu's family environment provided enough twists for the two to create a strong relationship, the drama adds a love triangle! Finally, the ending was pretty rushed and but it was a happy one at least.

The performances, finally, were all enjoyable and everyone did a great job. The settings and costumes were pretty realistic as well.

So, overall, 4.5 out of 10.

Short and most certainly sweet

Many like me have been waiting for a good historical BL series and this kind of delivers that. The story is rather simple and with the limited run time they were able to show some good aspects of the 2 leads life together. The first few episodes is kind of funny with the mother-in-law and sister-in-law not able to recognise that their daughter-in-law is a guy and then we have a friend that falls head-over-heels for the "wife".
The story although simple contains a potential to be something epic but unfortunately it was lost. The story starts at surface level and remains there throughout the 8 episodes. They could have used that limited time wisely by showing some great interactions between the 2 male leads instead of utilizing it on comedy. This story requires a few more episodes spanning around 30 min each to flesh it out completely, build the multiple characters and their relationships so that the ending doesn't feel rushed.
This is certainly not a bad series by any stretch and can be easily binge-watched to enjoy it.

Nicely filmed even if nothing spectacular

With only eight episodes that run barely more than ten minutes each, the story is told quite competently. There are some BLs with more and longer episodes that end up meandering around nowhere.

There is a happy ending--it is probably what most viewers want even if it is unrealistic. What happened to the parents, especially Ho Seon's father? I doubt they will let a political wedding be annulled so easily. Even if it is, another one will be arranged. In fact, in the first place, did anyone really expect Ki Wan to be able to replace his sister temporarily (how are they going to explain the totally different faces when the sister returns?) But let's not think so much about such things and enjoy the sweetness.

Since we do not expect realism anyway, I feel that the series could have gone further with the attraction between Ho Seon and Ki Wan. There are some nice moments, but I feel that the intensity of emotions and the accompanying struggles are not really portrayed for most of the episodes. I'm not one of those who complain about the lack of kissing scenes or skinship in BLs, but I find that the creators of the series seem a little too cautious about portraying the characters' love for each other. At one point, I even thought that it would be a fake BL, with Ki Wan's sister returning and becoming the real wife.

Despite the hesitation in showcasing actual BL moments, the scenes are nicely shot even with an apparently limited budget. The make-up for Ki Wan is also nicely done--it doesn't make the cross-dressing comical. Interestingly, it seems that his masculine features are accentuated more when he is dressed as a woman though it looks believable that he might be mistaken for a woman.

Ultimately, we have a simple story with some nice BL moments. It's ok enough to spend an hour and a half watching though it is unlikely to be remembered as a classic BL.

WATCH NOW!

This is one of the cute sweetest stories I've ever watched. My only complaint is that I wanted more! If you are looking for a light easy super cute and sweet romance this is it! And it's super short and on average 11 mins with 8 eps (unfortunately) it left me completely satisfied but still wanting to see more. Super new to BL so I can't compare it to others but with definitely recommend it to anyone willing to listen! I promise you won't regret it. I almost didn't pick it up due to the one or two bad comments but it kept nagging at me so I picked it up and here I am making an account just to make a comment on how much I loved this.

It was okay, not a superb series like I expected.

So, I thought the premise was super amazing and it was something I (and others) wanted to see: a Korean period drama with gay romance. I was hoping for the same quality as Where Your Eyes Linger and To My Star, but it just doesn't seem to reach those stars (no pun intended). Perhaps it was just the execution which made it fall through.

First of all, the romance just seemed so forced. Not exactly sure why, but it just did not seem as genuine - it didn't really help that there were all these tropes of cross-dressing and everything. Also the SLS seemed forced and as if the writer was trying to push it down our throats.

Also on another note, it was way too clear that it was her brother and not Hwajin herself. It's so obvious from the voice and the facial structure. They kept it like that to advance the plot, but it just turned me off - it's just not believable.

Acting was okay, some of it was great and other parts were slightly bland.

I will say I kind of liked the kiss at the end even though it was the typical flat kiss. It's sort of cute though.

Overall I probably wouldn't rewatch to be honest, it's kind of boring to me and I fail to see the charm in it. The poster had me all excited but the actual drama seemed to not live up to the expectations. It's definitely not crappy though for how long each episode is. I just wouldn't watch this when I can watch other shows.

The Potential Was There

Oh how excited I was for this series given the setting and great potential. But oh how quickly that excitement faded when, in the very first episode, I already felt lost and like I had been thrust into the middle of a drama that had been airing for weeks already. (When I tell you I checked the episode number numerous times and even came to the comments here to confirm that episode 1 was indeed that disorienting....).

I guess the biggest critique I have is that it felt like the writers were trying to squeeze too many conflicts and storylines in at once instead of focusing on one that was most important. In a roughly 80-90 minute production, did we really need to see those meddlesome intrusions from Jin Hee and Tae Hyung? No. If anything, they took away from the story rather than adding to it. I much would have preferred the time being spent on developing Ho Sun and Ki Won's relationship and/or diving more into the (albeit slight) political nature of this kind of set up. This felt rushed in a way that other Korean BLs of the same length did not. It also felt slightly underdeveloped, like the beginnings of an idea that took off too soon. The concept was there. The execution and solid plot development was not. This felt more like a collection of slice-of-life one shots in the back of a manga than a fully realized story.

The acting was fine except that I felt no romantic chemistry between the leads whatsoever. I blame this in part on the writing and lack of attention devoted to building that much-needed tension between the leads, but I also think Kang In Soo is to blame, as I felt that the other BL he starred in (Wish You) lacked romantic chemistry as well (meanwhile, I absolutely adored Lee See Jin's romance in Mr. Heart).

Overall, I'd still recommend, mainly because it's so short and not much of a time commitment. I really liked this premise of having a sageuk BL and wish the creators here were given the time and space to really flesh this drama out the way a complex historical drama should be. But props to them for trying and for giving us a setting and storyline that we haven't necessarily seen before in this drama. I give it one thumb up.

Don't expect too much out of this mini series.. just watch and enjoy!

As my title reads...
The duration of this series is too small to even comment over it.

When I first read the synopsis of this I was really excited coz the story was something different and the actors casted were amazing as I had seen their earlier work.

As the series began, it was very interesting..
The banter between sis in law and gender switched wife, the sexual tension between the leads and their undeniable chemistry.

The actors are superb.. the second lead literally talks with his eyes... The fire in his eyes is something out of this world.

I somewhere feel their talent and acting skill was not fully used in here.
Towards the end the story felt lacking the charisma with which it started.
Despite being 10 mins short.. the last episode felt draggy and unnecessary.

But as I had mentioned before.. it is too mini of a series to even expect something out of it.
Complaining about it makes me sour since I give it the back door that due to lack of time the makers couldn't give justice to the story and it's closure.

I conclude with the following :
Watch this series for the actors, chemistry between them and their handsome faces!! ;)

Alright but nothing mind-blowing

Well, I'm writing this review, cause no one is :).

I'm in two minds about this show. I think we often feel like the Korean bls have a lot to offer, but yeah, they are always quite short. I honestly didn't mind the short runtime in the previous ones, but in this one, it was extremely visible. I felt like these 80 minutes weren't enough for this story and thus it was pretty rushed, especially towards the end (and at the very beginning).
Story: I like the idea of the story, it would be interesting in a longer series, but here I felt like nothing really happened.
Acting/Cast: I think the cast was amazing, and their acting performance didn't disappoint. I felt the chemistry, so yeah, I was very sattisfied with this.
Music: I didn't really notice the music until the last episode, where I really liked the song used, so that was nice.
Rewatch value: I think this is a good show for binge-watching, but maybe only for once? I'm leaving my door open though.
Overall: Maybe I had too high expectations of it, because I'm used to amazing historical Chinese dramas. However, I liked the vibe of the series - it was light-hearted and nothing serious and dramatic, so if that's what you're looking for, this might be a show for you :).
