its a political drama not a romance drama

the story was too draggy, it had so much potential. I did not feel the chemistry between the leads, the romance was dead. dr.Kang and soo ho had so much more chemistry and could've ended up together, but no he had to go back and save her. the ending was kinda inconclusive and had no proper explanation. Young ro's character was so poorly written, hardly ever empathized with her. the poor girl is gonna have PTSD from all the shit she had to go through. the support roles were pretty interesting and well written. soo ho's character was really good and had an amazing backstory but the ending kinda threw me off. Overall the cast was really strong. I honestly really liked the scenes with the wives of the politicians, it was entertaining

Despair let you remember the beautiful moments

I initially wanted to give 8.5 but I gave 1 more because of Hae In's acting and Jisoo's chemistry with him ...
We all know from the beginning that one of them has to die ... It was their fate ...
They were never supposed to be together...
Soo ho never died because
In Young Ro's heart , he is alive
They loved each other and protect each other even though his/herself was about to die ...
This drama portrayed all kinds of emotions without happiness
Man see
We can feel anger , hatred , betrayal and many things
That's why I loved this drama ...
The whole cast was my favourite....
Every character was necessary...
Everyone did a good job ....
I mean see the negative characters they really made me hate them

Gye Bun Ok
I hate this character so much ...
Tho I love Kim hye Yoon ...
She really showed us her versatility....

Nam Tae il
Nam Tae il was the character I literally couldn't hate.
Maaannn , his character was sooo funnnyyyy... He really made me laugh in everytime he had screen time ...

Ms.Pi
Ms. Pi aka Yoon See Ah was really a good soul ...
I know which she did was wrong....
But she was forced to do

Ms. Oh
One character I was really annoyed at the end was Ms.Oh ( I hate her )
If she didn't ran away there were chances for sooho not getting killed...

Man Dong
Let's talk about Mr. Man Dong
To be honest he didn't gave me shock
Because I was expecting that he was northern spy ...

Kang Cheong Ya
She was really a clever woman...
Yoo In Na is a really good actress...
She was so perfect to portray this character...

Lee Gang Mu
I really hated him at the beginnin...
But he really win my heart in the ending ...
I thought he's gonna betray Soo ho ...
But no he didn't...

Jang Han-Na
A smart woman..
Who can do everything for her love

Let's talk about most important characters
Lim Soo-Ho and Eun Young Ro

Lim Soo -Ho
I hate you writer for one fu*king reason
Why you have to put all miseries in his life ...
His mother I hate her .. she wasn't a human ...
Soo-Ho literally saved numerous souls in the every corner of the world..
A really good gooooooddddd soul ...
He saved all the hostages ...
But in the end he died ...
He only loved Young Ro till the last ...
He could never came back and live a luxurious life with Kang Cheong Ya
But He didn't
He chose Young Ro till the last...
Last not least
Jang Hae In is the best ...

Eun Young Ro
I have nothing to talk about her ...
I mean is this girl even a human
No absolutely not
She is an Angel..
She is too good for this world...
How she desperately tried to save all the hostages
And tried to save Soo-Ho
Her love for Soo-Ho was so pure ...
I bet she's gonna love Soo-Ho in her entire life...
Soo-Ho will be alive in her heart ...
As a debuting actress Kim Jisoo did a fabulous Job ...
( Jisoonie saraghaeyo )

Ending
Tbh , this writer didn't have to show us Soo-Ho's death so horribly...
I mean one bullet was enough...
Why they have to show us cross fire ...
That really broke my heart

The whole drama was really good ...
I know some people will rate this drama so low only for ending...
But guys
Ending isn't everything...
And sometime we need to experience tragedy
Our leads chemistry, acting, plot was really good
You can't ignore that ..

I never write so many things and snowdrop made me do this ....
I'm sorry you had to read so long paragraph 🤣
I'm sorry
If I wrote something wrong

A story about choices

I've been wanting to write this review since the finale but wanted to take some time to see if my thoughts about it would change - they didn't. This doesn't deserve anything less than a 8 in rating & the only reason why I gave it a 7 for rewatch value is because I don't think I would be able to watch all 16 episodes again, at least any time soon.

Looking at the poster & romance tag may disappoint viewers as the romance is more of a subplot & subtle. Because of the hostage situation that the leads find themselves in, it wouldn't really make sense for them to be all lovey dovey. Their love is the love at first sight kind & one that is expressed through lingering looks. (&, boy, do Haein & Jisoo do an amazing job acting with their eyes.) Given his status & circumstances, Sooho tries his best to protect Youngro, at times acting as if he doesn't care about her. So, while I would've loved to see more lighthearted sweet moments between them, their actions speak louder than words - they literally are willing to sacrifice their lives for each other.

While the political part of it can be confusing at first if you're not really paying attention, this story is a dark comedy more about the decisions that characters make. Even if you hate a certain character and hate/don't agree with their actions, I think the writing does a good job in setting up the characters so you aren't really surprised by their actions. What I mean to say by that is that characters aren't acting out of normal of how they've been written. While you may not be able to guess what they're going to do or say, when it happens you have that feeling of "yeah, they so would do/say that."

To speak more about characters, this was Sooho's story & everyone else was along for the ride (I don't mean that as a bad thing.) I loved seeing Sooho's journey as he questioned his beliefs to the moment he realized he couldn't follow them. As for Youngro, I personally liked that she wasn't completely jaded by everything & stayed kind at heart. (Some may complain that she cries too much but her reactions are perfectly warranted with everything that she's gone through. Also, she has her moments of bravery when she tries sacrificing herself for the hostages more than once. Keep in mind she's only a young woman in her 20s .) Moving on to Boonok, she was a menace whose actions can't be justified because of her sufferings, especially when you had other character who suffered just as much or more yet didn't resort to being horrible. She was an infuriating good antagonist though. I thought that the headmistress & doctor kang were the most interesting characters.

This drama isn't without its flaws but the few things I could criticize about it weren't enough, or strong, to stop me from completely enjoying this. (Even the end that had me in a slump for months was fitting because of the way this story and character was developed.) Every episode was full of tension & felt like watching a movie. (But, if you don't like character driven stories & stories that take place in mostly one setting, then you may not like this.) The acting was all around great & the actors make you feel invested in their characters. (I think this is Haein's best role/performance so far. Jisoo showed great potential with her acting debut. Kim Hye Yoon & Yoon Se Ah were amazing .Yoo In Na was a show stealer, etc.) The cinematography was beautiful & the ost is one of the bes & one of my favorites now. Snowdrop is a drama that broke my heart yet I'm thankful to have watched, especially as it aired.

NOT a romance

I'll repeat again to anyone who is checking the reviews before watching the show: This is NOT a romance drama. I know it's the first tag but IT'S WRONG !!! Don't expect fluff and angst related to feelings, or clichés. This is a political thriller and a MELOdrama.

Is the romance nice ?
Meh. But it came as a savior for me because the start of this drama was SO boring. It was also really pure and it might not make much sense but it kept me hanging.

Is the rest worth it ?
There were so many plot holes... There were situations they should have adressed but decided to dismiss in order to tell us more about side characters you don't care about.

It is worth watching it ?
Yes. The songs were beautiful, the filming and editing too. The amount of work they put in everything but the plot was amazing. I know it sounds mean, but it was impossible for me to relate to anyone.
I originally wanted to give it a 5.5/10 but I did appreciate the main characters, acting, songs and filming.

A lot of potential

I really tried to like this. Despite the controversies, my problem was pacing more than anything else. I really enjoyed the story and most of the characters, but for me, the latter 3 episodes lost its luster.

I do give a ton of praise to Jung Hae In and Yoo In Na, their acting was amazing. Also, not a bad debut from Jisoo even though the majority of her work was weeping. The Sky Castle ladies were rather boring, but in the end served a funny purpose in the penultimate episode. Hana and Gang-mu were another bright spot for me. As I think back, there was a lot of great scenes and moments, but some of it dragged on too much.

Sad ending

The ending is very sad ..
The male lead died 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Story: the plot idea is good but the execution is terrible . Too many fillers and unnecessary draggy
Acting: no complains. Though the female lead makes me cringe sometimes
Music: not bad
Rewatch value: never
Overall: 4/10
U will surely skip some scenes
And the male lead died.

Loved every bit of it ❤️❤️❤️

I would definitely re-watch it! Already saw it twice, once alone and second time with my family!! Still loved it... actually it made me sad in the end but true love is like that. You always live inside your loved one's heart till their last breath. Just how Sooho will always live inside Youngro!

Honestly never liked politics in my life but this series made me change my perception about a lot of things... the way politicians and past dictators does things for their own interests and plan dangerous schemes which involves murder of innocent citizens and arm forces, sad reality! I can say Snowdrop changed my taste. Maybe I would go for another romance/history/action genre series in future! This is the beauty of cast and actors who can make any series interesting. Obviously Jung Hae-in, Jisoo, Jang Seung had most of the scenes, and if I would say I only liked their characters then it would be correct! All three of them did justice to their characters, rest of the cast was also good, hope I get to see Jisoo and Jung Hae-in together in some other series soon.

Only thing which I wanted to change was that they should have shown story outside the dorm and more scenes of Youngro Sooho to us!

All the episodes were filled with amazingly-soothing music! Among them my most favourite tracks were If you are with me by SUNG SI KYUNG and Looks like a real thing by JEHWI!

10/10 for me!

(MY REVIEW AFTER WATCHING 7 EPISODES):

Okay so not only the story is very attractive, but the whole cast, production people, choreographers and camera team put a lot of effort to make it!! When I heard that Jisoo from blackpink is working in some series and it is going to be her very first mainlead drama... I was quite curious but trust me every bit of the scene she performed her makeup, outfits, her overall look, acting plus her chemistry with Jung hae-in is electrifying! Adoring their couple so much after watching all the episodes till now!!

The backdrop story is also great, it is good to know about the democratic history of Korea. It is not entirely the actual truth but somehow closer to it.. I am enjoying it a lot and so obsessed that it gets harder to wait for the next episodes now! I wish 8th january come soonest so I may get to see what happen next. Other than that Jung Hae-in, girls who are playing Yeong-ro's roommates, Black tiger, Assistant of Sooho (that comrade guy Jo) all are justifying their characters so well.

This is my very first drama of Jung Hae-in after While you were sleeping (As I haven't completed it yet so can't say much about his previous work) , but I'm very impressed by his acting skills and his fan now. He's playing special security agent's role so well. Everything is upto the mark and hope people appreciate their hardwork and understand that this is a drama and fiction work!! Very beautiful storyline, all the scenes make you fall in love with it!!

In the beginning it takes me 2 episodes to fully understand the concept, for me it was boring in the beginning but then when I fully understood the complete story I started getting obsessed with it!! A must watch drama for everybody who is into action/thriller/lovestory genre! The lead pair is love, the way they look at eachother makes you fall in love with them!! They're soooooo cute ❤️

I'm sorry but...

Yeah I agree, Jisoo is goddessly pretty. But this drama is rotten. It has a bad plot while getting controversies in South Korea itself. Here are some suggestions before you read the pros and cons.

Suggestion:
- Crash Landing on You's plot has a lot of better ending/conflict resolutions than this one.
- If you are looking for an action-romance drama, one of the best is titled "Flower of Evil".
- If you aren't a fan of Jisoo, I don't recommend you to watch this drama.

Pros:
- Jisoo's acting is pretty good in her debut-as-main-female-lead.
- The filming set (Hosu Women University Dormitory) is one of the best in K-Drama history. I can say the dormitory is on the same level as Hotel Del Luna.
- The OSTs really match with the drama's theme. I love the opening and ending (choirs) soundtrack!

Cons:
- Don't expect much from its "action" aspect. This is a really cheap romance drama. The couple is busy hugging each other on the battlefield while defending themselves from the enemy's attack.
- Inconsistent character. Young Ro is portrayed as a girl who is afraid of bullets, but she comes back to the battlefield just to meet her beloved one.
- Titan-sized plot hole. Yes, there won't be a season 2, so the hole is forever there leaving watchers confused.
- Worst conflict resolution. In episode 16, the plot skips much. You won't know how the antagonist side gets defeated.
- The plot is not solid. Too many lovey-dovey scenes, staring at each other's eyes too long accompanied by the OSTs, etc. You can even skip these kinds of plots without losing the story. I skipped much too.
- This drama itself has controversies and already got canceled by Koreans. So, I believe the writer is too afraid to make the plot become how it's supposed to be.
- The political talks are really hard to understand (at least for me) :(
- *

*will be added if I remember what to write.

Capturing story with interesting plot twists

I recommend watching this show
The story is intresting many plot twists
Every episode keeps you on the edge wanting to know what's going to happen next
You should always keep watching till the end and never miss the bonus clips
The cast is well choosen every role is well written
The two main leads Kim Jisoo and Jung Hae-In have great chemistry
Jisoo as her acting debut did very well in portraying Eun young-Ro
All the supporting cast members are world class actors
The Ost of the show is mesmerizing specially at the finaly of every episode it reminds me of Disney's movies
Overall Good show and great actors !

Worth Watching

Highly recommended. It's not the usual kdrama you expect to see. The acting its really great too but what i liked the most its the story. Different, old but new. It depicts a time in the history of korea that its difficult to see on screen during these years. Of course its not perfect and of course its not depicting the actual historical events or situations but its so well made that you can enter the screen throwing back to that time and feel in someway the pressure and the strict and controversial politics of that korea . Every episode seem to last 5 minutes and you want only to go on and on with the story to know more about the characters and the end, imagining the wrost and the best scenario you can. Loved the bonus scene at the end of the episode for me its like given more dimension to the characters. Hope for an happy ending even though its quite unlikely.

Too ambitious for its own good...

I'm not going to lie; I dropped this drama after episode 9 and kept myself updated through clips and spoilers. As of now, two episodes are left to be shown. If they should miraculously change this hellish journey to one that seems like a worthwhile experience (at least in retrospect), I might rewrite my review. But if I don't, this is my final verdict on a series that had lots of potential but didn't live up to expectations.

First of all, I feel that for a lead character, Youngro is too passive and useless. Not going to elaborate further on that, you're going to read many comments about how the women of this show are hard to like and how they don't drive the plot forward as much as the male characters. Admittedly, one could say that the men of this show are not exactly likeable either and most of them are power-obsessed and fickle douchebags. But then again, with the majority of the plot playing out in an all-female dormitory, it's disappointing how the screenwriter, who is a woman, decided to turn all the dorm girls into whiny extras. Like I said, even Youngro seems like a side character.

Secondly, while in the beginning I disagreed with people saying they were growing tired of the dorm setting where 90% of the show takes place, by now I've come to feel bored myself. And I'm usually all in for returning to the same locations throughout a drama or a movie because, if efficiently done, that's a perfect way of evoking emotions and bringing depth to a story. You show the same places, but the people inside those walls are subtly different every time which you notice even more because they are set against a space that has remained unchanged. And that space itself becomes iconic after a certain time. Think of Central Perk from "Friends", as an example. But you need well written characters for that and engaging dynamics between them. In "Snowdrop", those are sadly missing and there is nothing else that is interesting or exciting enough to make up for the fact that we are confined to a handful of locations for over 14 hours with such boring company. Neither the political schemes, nor the romance, the friendships, or the personal agendas of these characters make me want to stick around until the end.

That being said, I can only bid this drama farewell with much disappointment because the writer-director duo as well as the actors and actresses (who are insanely talented, don't get me wrong) had made me set my expectations too high. I was especially hoping the show would eventually be able to bury the initial controversy surrounding the project by turning out amazingly thought-through, masterfully directed, cleverly written and politically on point. It didn't do all that for me and I would have been satisfied if at least one of the genres this drama picked up had worked in the end, be it action, romantic melodrama, espionage thriller, political satire, or coming-of-age. Guess the show was too ambitious by trying to be all of that at the same time. Then again, why didn't it work? Did the writer have to change her script midway due to the controversy? Did the production team suddenly realize they would receive an angry response over the politically messed up premise? Did they change the genre from drama to a "black comedy" (or whatever else this strange genre salad is) because of that but didn't have enough time to execute that well enough? I guess we'll never know.

~ Update after knowing how the last two episodes went: Sadly, I'd have to give this an even worse rating if I were to include my thoughts on the finale. But I'll just leave my review as it is and leave the final judgment to those who have watched this from start to finish.

I’m pretty excited about this show at first, but…..

(Sorry for my bad english)

I watched this drama because this drama was Jisoo’s debut drama as an actress. So I’m pretty excited when the first episode came out.
At first (i think eps 1-5) were really good, but the rest eps they were just in a dorm???? I feel like it was too long to just being in a dorm.
And i’m very disappointed with the ending. Since the first episode, I already knew that this drama is going to have a sad ending, but i didn’t expect that the sad ending is this kind of ending (sorry i’m not trying to give spoiler).
So overall, I rated this drama for 6.
