i have... thoughts..!!

i'm not gonna pretend to be hoity-toity here, i did actually like this series a lot, so i don't want to just crap all over it, i do have good things to say too!!! positivity, guys, positivity. mainly, i LOVE the casting. the actors, especially kimmon and copter. they really pulled through in this series. the chemistry was definitely there and they just felt to real to me. i loved watching them throughout every single second that they were on screen. nonetheless, my personal bias does not save this show from objective criticism, as there's a lot in this series that just... didn't click. it might've just been me over analyzing or maybe some of these things get cleared up in s2 (probably), but i'd like to discuss my thoughts. firstly: what the actual fruitcake fuck is going on with the wayu-thanu-pha-phai situation? according to these weird mutual visions thanu and phai had (where tf did this sci-fi-esque side plot come from btw? lol) they're "destined" to each other, but wayu has one with thanu too, so is thanu destined to both of them or something? who am i supposed to be rooting for here? it just doesn't make sense.. secondly. my biggest ick in this series, the only part i absolutely could not stand, the tong & pok sub-plot. to be blunt, it bothered me so much that i ended up fast forwarding or straight up skipping through a lot of it bc i wasn't comfortable watching it. it felt so out of place. a less serious critique, but what is koh and jack's relationship meant to be? it was hinted that jack likes koh romantically when jack was talking to wayu, and then they never brought it up after that as if it didn't happen. finally, what the hell is sandee's deal and where in god's name did pha go... and why????? again, a lot of this is probably covered in s2, but i feel like the reliance on "it's explained in s2" makes some parts of gen y feel extremely lack luster and just confusing. it probably would've been better to just make it a longer series so that it could be more concise.

Don't be fooled by the negative reviews !

So i don't really write reviews :) but i think i must this time .. it will be very short.

I don't know what's wrong with people with negative reviews. This series was literally one of the best BLS with great acting directory and chemistry. markkit was the cutest i can't explain in words. Their acting was really amazing. I enjoyed the whole show. So you must give it a try ! Then you can judge !

I need to add more words i guess so let's talk about wayu he is born cute u know that . And thanu who is paired with him in this series is just soo handsome their chemistry is wholesome. Not Just them u will enjoy the chaotic juniors too their naughty tricks will surely make you laugh. And every other couples in this series, i must say is awesome. They really did a very very very very good job. So that's it !

Watch it !!?

Too much characters may be confusing.

Story / Plot and Cast: The series has a unique cast composition. There were the familiar faces, Kimmon (Mark), Copter (Kit), and Bas (Wayu). There were also a lot (I mean it) of supporting actors, so much that I still cannot fully match their faces with their name. This is very much because the drama series is catalysed by the end of the Superboy Project, in which candidates compete against each other as if in a talent show. The show ended in early 2020 or late 2019, which is a plausible timing. (In Superboy Project, 5 were the winner, namely Bank Thanathip, Bank Toranin, Pon, Kad, and Junior. All participants of the show starred in Gen Y The Series, there are 9 of them.) As I probably don’t need to tell you, the 3 protagonists are from SBFIVE, which was formed after the shooting of 2Moons. It is difficult not to correlate Gen Y with 2 Moons, given the fact that the 3 protagonists have similar or the same name as the characters. Notwithstanding the resemblance, let’s look at the characters:

Mark and Kit: Mark seems to be a playboy before he met Kit, and subsequently decided to wholeheartedly court Kit. Kit was apparently offended at first but slowly opened his heart for Mark. On the whole, I think there is little character development for Mark, given that he was the playful character all along. The change in Kit’s attitude towards Mark was not apparent, though fairly natural in the eyes of the audience, and might be traced to the scene where they rub their cheeks in the sushi shop. It might as well be said that the confession scene marks the turning point of their relationship. All along, Kit was defensive of his friend, Pharawee (Pha), and also the boyfriend of Kit’s close friend Wayu. Kit eventually paid more attention to himself and Mark, which eventually led to their happiness at last. It was all too familiar for us to see the faces of Mark (Kimmon) and Kit (Copter) after 2Moons, and they portrayed the character quite well, despite the resemblance to their relationship in 2Moons.

Wayu, Thanu, Jack, Koh, Phai, Sandee: Needless to say, this is a very complicated relationship. Wayu was ghosted by his boyfriend, Pharawee, back then. Thanu later returned to study and his relationship with Wayu grown gradually. Jack and Koh are both interested in Wayu. Phai seems to be interested in Thanu, but was turned down when Thanu confirmed his choice. Sandee sabotaged the events in the middle, occasionally, and cause disturbance in the process. Compared with 2Moons, Wayu (Bas) has been largely improved and does not only seem like a cry baby with little thinking. Thanu (Dun) feels like a telepath! Thanu repeatedly had scenes flashing in his head when he interacted with Wayu and Phai (Pon). Even though his “telepathy” with Wayu can justify the idea that they are the “true” pair, his telepathy with Phai is difficult to understand, and his response to Phai even more so. Phai and Sandee (Bank Thanathip) had interactions that are difficult to understand. We can only conclude that Phai is a selfless boy who wishes Thanu all the best with Wayu [really?]. Pon (Phai) is cute and innocent; Bank Thanathip (Sandee) is good-looking with some evil; Dun (Thanu) is charming; Jet (Jack) and Jame (Koh) are crazy lovers; all have lived up to my expectation and articulated with their character. All I could say is they could have more screen time in order for a better understanding of the relationship between them.

Padbok, Sab: Padbok is an impulsive playboy and Sab is a playful young boy which is going to enter university. They have few interactions and can hardly be called a “couple”. Their interactions are confined in the café that Sab worked in as an intern. There is, in fact, little to comment on their character, as their characters do not have a lot of special stuff. Padbok (Junior) is very eye-catching. Even though the character seems to contain only hate and impulsiveness, I must agree that Junior is charming. Sab (Kad) is playful and brings laughter always, and Kad also lived up to this standard. [They also played in another series, ‘Bad Roommate’, even though it has a TikTok format.]

Pok, Tong: Pok has an impulsive character and Tong is the near opposite of Pok. I have to admit that their interactions always leave me with question marks because sometimes it is difficult to understand. It is hard to decipher whether Pok has feelings for Tong, because 3 seconds after their interactions violence will kick in. What did Tong do exactly? Are his acts justifiable? Even if it is not, is Sandee’s sabotage (?) justifiable? A lot of questions are to be answered in Season 2 if there is one. Nonetheless, Pok (Bank Toranin) are handsome and Tong (Bonus) apparently would look better without the glasses!

Music: The music was OK. The opening theme, รักโดยไม่มีเหตุผล (Love without reason) by ISBANKY is like floating in mid-air. I was not able to find the ending theme, but it sounds too rock ‘n’ roll for me as an ending theme for a teenage love series. รักไม่มีนิยาม (Love has no definition) by Kimmon and Copter is also a nice song.

On a whole, the series was OK. Screen time distribution is an issue because there were too many characters, and it is difficult to keep up with so many “couples” (?) at once. If dealing with Mark and Kit at first and leave them in their world can help other characters to develop, then it is fine. Too many characters may confuse the audience at first, but eventually, stuff will clear up. The series ended in a cliff-hanger, and I am not in strong opposition to this, as long as there is actually a Season 2 to clear things up. Overall, the introduction of so many characters (the contestants, in fact) into a drama may be confusing at first.

Bad play out for the chracters

To be honest, the first episode came off as boring. It was a turn off and I watched it half way several times before I started to commit to finishing it. Sure the storyline for the most part is good, but the way it plays out for some of the characters is really a shame.

1. Phai, Thanu, Sandee. Phai's meeting with Thanu should have never happened. It's heartbreaking for someone who hasn't experienced a relationship. Especially when both of them experienced the shock when they met at the riverbank, it was like they were meant to be. (Derived from the way Thanu kept thinking about Phai and even drew a portrait of him.) And after Phai and Thanu talked it out, he still has to deal with a jealous and cunning friend who probably likes him. Phai deserved better.

2. Padbok. Come on man, the amount of anger given to this character is unreal. Every time he comes on screen is just a violent mess. Really did not like the way he didn't at least have a character development in the first season. I'm hoping in the coming season he would be a better person.

3. Tong and Pok. Enemies to lovers (ETL) trope but with a horrible plot. They should have really given both of them a better story instead of having them be in whatever mess they are in right now.

4. Jew. Small support role but still crucial for scenes to relieve stress from main couples. I feel like they should have him be a couple with Yuki. Would have made it more interesting as it connects the 2 faculties and any drama (for instance Padbock being an ass to the Communication Arts students) would have been more interesting than seeing him beat up Thanu and people who protect Thanu.

5. Jack and Koh. They seem like relationship tools that everyone uses for their benefit. They truly deserve a story on their own seeing as to how their relationship has played out.

As for casting, it's really good, but there could be some changes to have a more impactful cast.

Music wise; OST isn't great, BGM for scenes are okay but kind of repetitive. Makes it super annoying.

Rewatch value: I would probably only rewatch it because of Mark and Kit, otherwise no.

Edit: Added point 5.

Interesting Soap Opera

This series has an interesting start and a good over all storyline, but lacks execution. From the start it was interesting, but then you are introduced to way to many characters at different periods in the life and starts to get confusing and hard to keep up with way to many stories. I have to say I found my self loving the support cast more then the main cast. The actors for the most part are good, but the character development is very lacking with little growth for some and a lot of plot holes that don't really get resolved even with it being the first season.

The bad: I have to say I hate the character of Wayu and found him to be the most annoying in the whole series, not sure if it's the way they wrote him or the I am not a fan of the actor but it just felt a annoying whenever he showed up. The supernatural part was a great idea, but horribly done and did not continue throughout the series, that made no sense. The storyline did not always make sense and there were a lot of missing gaps in the story. I was a bit annoyed at Kit character for taking forever in dealing with his feelings and always putting his friends issues first and putting his love life last which made Mark suffer in ways he did not deserve. The worst pairing was Wayu and Thanu, no chemistry and looked bad together. I found my self skipping every most Wayu was in as he bored me.

The good: I loved Mark, Thanu, Sandee, Phai, Pok and Thong. The liked that the villains are not true villains but people who were really misunderstood by actions. Padbok and Sandee were great bad boys in the own way for different reasons but it worked. Love seeing Tong and Pok and they should have been the main stars for relationship wise. Thanu would have ended up with Phai .. they had a much better chemistry together.

Fanfiction should always be a "fan" fiction

Gen Y was written by Liu Lijun. I think StarHunter wanted to piss off ChiffonCake with this. What they did with the names and character description is just like asking for trouble. StarHunter can actually get sued for this. The possibility of being persecuted for it is low but it will again cause damage to the boys. It is like they went on war against Motive Village and put the boys on the line of fire. This can have serious repercussions that's why a handful of Bas,Kim and Copter fans were reaching out to StarHunter to reevaluate the direction they want to go to. They can express hate against Chiffon all they want but stealing her work like this is unjustifiable. Again, they could have created a good story but decided to use those names like deliberately taunting Chiffon. I love the original novels Fanfiction should always be a "fan" fiction, and thus any form of its commercialization would be illegal. This is a big issue, and a violation of intelligence properties.
I am going to be against this production (Not the actors)

why you don't focus on MarkKit?

I am sorry to say that but the first thing that I expect watching this drama is how Mark-Kit bound their relationship detached from WayuPha stories. From episode 1 until 7 I am so enjoy watching how Mark fight for his feeling to Kit. But after that I don't enjoy it. It would be nice if in this film tell us more about Mark feel in love with the firm Kit who doesn't like Mark at the first. The delivery on how Kit could accept Mark feeling is lack here. I think the writer must notice that. It's okay brings Thanu in this story is good idea but it doesn't make sense if he was doubtful on his feeling. It just made feel bad about Wayu and turn out this story focus on Thanu-Wayu-Pha story. Poorly, Thanu's acting here is very stiff compared to others. Last, funny things happend the cast play role Pha just appear at the end. But maybe it just gimmick at the first to increase the audience's curiosity who will play Pha. I hope Gen Y season 2 more brings Mark-Kit stories

Too many characters, not enough good ones

Honestly, I don’t even know where to start. Gen Y has many problems in my opinion, but I’d say the biggest one is Gen Y 2. The fact that the series was planned with a follow up in mind creates a big issue of inflating the season with too many characters and side stories, with minimal payoff.

The first half of the series was focused on the university, which was ok. Mark and Kit are obviously the best part. But unfortunately they have to share much of the screen time with literally the human equivalent of watching paint dry, Wayu. Wayu’s whole personally is that he had a boyfriend and doesn’t have one anymore. There are 12 episodes of Gen Y and not once have we learned anything about Wayu’s interests or anything that would make him interesting. We just know that he likes to cry and that his dad is rich. The university portion had a few side characters that helped a bit, like Jew, Jack and Koh, and the people from the Communications Arts. Padbok was almost as one note as Wayu. He was angry all the time for no reason and I don’t understand why he has friends. He flirts and then tries to beat everybody. Sab was fun and during the first half of the show his friends didn’t bother me much.

On the other hand, the second half of Gen Y was a train wreck. It truly looks like a different show, even the characters look physically different. Simply looking as a character, Thanu was not the worse. The problem is that most of the things about him are unexplained during his time on the show, or are simply the worst part, aka the “destiny” portion of the show. While destiny was a concept we heard the high schoolers mentioning, when talking about love in the cafe, it was okay. It’s typical BL material. But, the fact that this show turned into premonitions and visions of the future because of destiny was the worst turn I could have imagined. To be far, the introduction of more high schoolers and, with that, the amount of screen time they got was already bad. Sandee joined Padbok in the group of characters with no apparent motivation for doing what they do. Is he the god of destiny? I would not put that as impossible at this point. Pok and Tong started as a potentially interesting jock/nerd dynamic but ended up just being the couple with the steamy scenes. Their love/hate + lust relationship really doesn’t work for me. Phai is very boring in my opinion and it doesn’t help him that his whole story if the destiny subplot.

Gen Y doesn’t work, in my opinion, because it cannot stand on it’s own as a complete show. It doesn’t even really delivers as a season 1. At this point, I don’t even care about the answer to the unanswered questions, like what happened between Padbok and Thanu or why did Pha leave/came back. The team behind this show was smart on focusing so much on Mark and Kit early on, so people would keep watching to at least know what happened to the couple.

The Road to Love is Paved with Good Intentions

I'm a little late to the party, but after finishing the series for the first time I wanted to express my thoughts on the content.

With a total of 12 episodes airing in the Gen Y series, viewers were given a handful of lovable characters, some less than desirable characters, and a basic plot line to guide them through the show. Season 1 focused on the relationship between Mark and Kit, two very different characters that were destined to become our favorite ship.

Mark and Kit are one of those couples who are constantly drawing you in with their soft bickering and comedic interactions. The two characters are literal polar opposites when it comes to their personality quirks and yet, they still manage to be a compatible pair. I found their story to be funny and refreshing contrary to some of the other more heartbreaking stories in the series. The only downside to this ship is that it felt like towards the end, once they got their "happy ending", they got downgraded to secondary characters.

Speaking of secondary characters, there were quite a few of them and I as a viewer inevitably became overwhelmed with the crossover in stories and suggested love triangles.

Wayu's story was particularly difficult to watch because of the ambiguous breakup and misdirection that we had to watch the character go through. I had hoped that the introduction of Thanu would be a stepping stone to another solid relationship in the series, but the addition of a third party (Phai) made it hard to connect to one ship or the other. For a while it was uncertain who Thanu would inevitably choose and once he made a decision, all of the build up leading up to the finale came crashing down with Pha's return. That specific story line was too inconclusive for my liking and I could've done without it and all the tears.

Overall, the story of Mark and Kit, which was sweet and funny, made the series worth watching to me as a viewer. I was slightly disinterested in the secondary plot lines simply because they felt underdeveloped or confusing and took away from the main plot. The acting was on par and the reprisal of some of our favorite characters from 2 Moons was a pleasant surprise to me.

Give it a go

I actually enjoyed this one,

HOWEVER it was suppose to be a "continuation" of 2 moons but they changed Pha and never showed his face which I don't understand, then they made Ming into Mark and Wayo into Wayu...ok?

Then it was suppose to be like "Mark" & Kits storyline BUT they started over with them not knowing each other, which I didn't like because instead of showing us either there relationship flourish or crumble, they made us watch them get back together again from the beginning which we already seen.

Also Where was Forth & Beam?? They needed to be in this so we could've seen there storyline flourish (maybe im bias because they were my favorite side couple)

Also also, we didn't need Pha coming back at the end and ruining S2 (IMO) because we all were fine without him even Wayo .. oops... Wayu ?

Yes, I am definitely scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I do not know what to write about anymore because most of these dramas are just repeating the same mistakes over and over AND OVER again. Let me just say: It is not the greatest drama I have seen, but it is not that bad. It passes with the lowest grade possible, though.

~Story:
Who cares, really. It's the typical haters turned to lovers, engineers and doctors, college students with petty struggles kind of drama. I bet you have seen like twenty of these already amirite, jush? This one just joins the bunch and gets lost in the crowd. This entire university is a cruising spot. So many people is in love with so many people. It's like a huge family tree but with people falling in love. Honestly, that was very messy, as if serious relationships kind of didn't matter because you will easily fall in love again.

~Cast:
Definitely a 50/50. I wasn't really impressed by anyone, but they weren't all bad. I'ts just that the story is quite messy and it's hard to get a full take on some characters. Let's see:

Mark/Kit: Okay, but, am I the only one who thinks Kimmo looks like the lovechild between Captain (Love Sick) and the main from Theory of Love, the asshole womanizer? There are similarities on his looks and how he expresses himself. All in all not my favorite couple, though. There is chemistry, but the acting didn't sell it for me. It looks staged and lacked good reactions. We needed some more confidence between the actors.

Wayu: He won me over with the rain scene on episode two. A really decent actor who may be a little boring sometimes, but at least it came out more natural than the others. Bas is physically adorable, so I always had that need of wanting to protect him. Great casting choice, I think. In all seriousness, his plot with Pha was not interesting. Why? Mama there was nothing to attach myself into. We never really meet him or had a taste on their relationship to actually feel something about it. Too much mystery for nothing.

Thanu: Yes and no. Again, acting was a little questionable, but nothing I would hate considerably. I don't know if you noticed but he definitely felt like he was reacting on cue, which is not the most realistic acting ever. Plus, his plot line with the other guy was unnecessary and weird. That supernatural shit was so out of place. Wish he could risk it all for me, though...

Pok/Tong: Who the fuck cares about these two? I couldn't be any more unimpressed by a couple who didn't have anything good to do in the story. I personally though they had way too much screen time.

Those are all the actors I'll talk because everything else is either irrelevant or a mess unworthy to write about.

~Writing/Pacing/Editing:
Wait, let me take a deep breath... Terrible. I mean, no. This drama didn't really make sense and I really wish there was some type of quality control team because, honestly, if I were reviewing this novel and script, I would have either reject it or tell them to write it all over again. There was not good flow between stories and it lacked balance. The pacing was really messy too since we didn't have any signs or anything that almost a year had passed. So I'm here wondering why some scenes didn't match well with previous episodes. The story in itself was quite messy and, honestly, the editing was expected to be this way because there was no good flow in the story itself for the editing to work out.

~Music:
It was okay. There's only one song that I genuinely liked and it is the one with the very soft beat that the mains sing. Don't know the name but it's stuck in my head. Nice to hear on a rainy day with some tea and pastries.

Mama, this show has everything: Questionable casting, lack of quality control, cruising spots, swimming coach with titties, supernatural shit that does not make any damn sense with the plot, Wayu crying like the cutest baby, disappearances, unattractive people receiving questionable beauty awards, and cliffhangers. I don't know if I should recommend this because there's definitely better stuff out there. I mean, I guess you could watch it but don't expect anything life changing.
