No brainer but steamy!!!

Actually, this was as much fun as Coffee and Vanilla. If you like that kind of vibe that is just plain steamy with a story to go around it, then delight yourself in this one! I liked the two main characters. The FL played the naïve but intelligent girl really well, and of course our ML was to drool over. So no complaints! I thought their acting was great! If you are looking to critique an involved, complex storyline, you won't be able to find a trace of that. So why even criticize it? Sometimes we just need a getaway. It's funny, this is one show that I waited for each episode to come out! And I am a "Story of Yanxi Palace" kind of mystery and intrigue complex story watcher! There was just something about it that was fun to watch! Great ending too! Enjoy! It's funny all those edits criticizing the submissive, innocent girl types, yet those bottom bitches submitting and being all naïve in the BL shows they drool over. Hmmmm...

Not Good Enough

Thai Drama 'Oh My Boss' had all the elements to create a swoon-worthy love story, alas, it didn't use them.

The main problem is the relationship itself. The girl is a delight to watch, as she is not only entertaining, she also does a great job with her performance. However, her partner was too forceful right from the start and he wanted to look authoritative but failed to do so. His past needed more time to be properly explained, to give the opportunity to the viewers to connect with him better and look at him more as a human than the 'Boss'. Unfortunately, everything was rushly explained. The whole love story was, in fact, based on the principle of a few happy scenes, plenty of crying ones, usually from the girl's side. The side characters, finally, were only there to fill in the gaps and talk to the leads, and they had no other porpuse nor story to back up.

So, overall 3.5 out of 10.

I was excited about this one - I knew what I was getting myself into when I saw clips of this drama on Instagram, knowing the only thing that would get me out of my drama funk was something light that didn't take itself too seriously. And I am not too familiar with Thai dramas, so it is always a safe bet for myself to try something different when I can't figure out what other genre/region I want to watch next.

I was pulled in instantly, wanting to know how the whole story was going to process and how Koji was going to go about teasing out main Noom about not calling him back after the night they spent together. And it was cute and quirky, and I remember texting my friends saying that I recommended this drama. Noom was a very independent woman who worked hard for what she got which landed her a role as a translator in a big company. And upon arrival, she continuously proved to everyone that she was great at what she did. And then we had Koji, the CEO of ViperX who was also the best at what he did and would protect his employees and business at any cost - even if it meant dealing with Mr Mark, our first villain.

And as their romance started to blossom, we got to see a quirky side to Koji who just LOVED to tease Noom. And it was cute. Until you get into the middle of the drama, and we see a lot of gender differences. I am not sure if this is a normal thing in Thai dramas as I do not know the gender roles, but I do remember making a comment in the first few Thai dramas I watched - it seems that men can get away with doing a lot more than women can. We see this first when Koji sees Mr Mark flirting with Noom and gets extremely jealous that he gives Noom a hard time, making her uncomfortable in their relationship as well as at work. He never talked with her to find out what was going on and why she was going out and meeting with him On the other hand, whenever Noom would get jealous about Koji & Rena, our big villain, Koji would just tell her not to worry about it and just laugh at her for being cute and jealous, even though homegirl was having this internal crisis. As we get more into their relationship, we see Noom become very dependent and we see her loose her voice. And not because it was taken away, but because she was too in her head. Given, Koji became an extremely sus character and I am not sure if it was because of the writing or because the actor wasn't the best (but I still love you, Luke!) He got away with a lot - the more we got the know him, the more he seemed to act like a "host" where he used his charm and sex appeal to win over clients which obviously did not sit well with Noom.

But what I will say about this drama - they did build up trust within their relationship where they were confident in one another and their feelings for one another, so when the villains tried to ruin their relationship on multiple occasions, they never doubted their feelings for one another, but instead would get angry over hoe the other reacted in the situation. And because of that, when they made up, it was a lot smoother. But don't get me wrong, Koji made some WEIRD choices and put Noom in a lot of uncomfortable positions which was hell to get through in the middle of the drama, but near the end, our girl finds her voice again and I was so proud at her for basically telling Koji that he was being a wack ass and he needed to check himself if he wanted to be with her because she is a queen. She also found her voice and told off all her bullies and the villains.

If you want to watch something light what makes you roll your eyes at all the cliche scenes (ex Noom tripping over everything and falling into KOji's arms 11 out of 10 times) because there is a lot of them, this is a good drama. A lot of the side characters were meh, but luckily we don't see a lot of them.

I feel weird for saying this and with the rating I gave this drama - but for the amount of bad in the drama, I very much enjoyed it. I saw commonalities with this Taiwanese drama (Just You) that is also not the best, but it is one of the few dramas I rewatch time to time. Just You definitely had more of a story and more character growth than this drama, but it did have the classic secret relationship with the boss and his ex girlfriend who is also his boss coming into the picture because they want to see the world burn before their ex can find happiness with someone else. I believe I am very much into this whole troupe, but with that...will always come the hierarchy of their job positions which always seem to reflect in their relationship as well.

A love hate type of thing that I always get pulled into.

I believe I bumped this up from a 7.5 to and 8 because I did watch a lot of Luke's youtube videos in-between episodes and even though I didn't like their characters, I really liked the main actors outside of the drama. And ultimately, it turned a lot of the bad scenes into quirky ones.

ALSO, I was obsessed with Hazobe who should have been given a bigger role. Also shame that he didn't develop a relationship with Noom's best friend from ep 1, but I wasn't a fan of any of Noom's friends who just seemed to play up the bad in situations in different ways. Hazobe deserved better

Beware of Female Lead poor acting skills

The plot was meant to be light so they superficially brushed topics like sexual harassment, power struggle and bullying in the work place. ML character appear to be strong but in fact he was very submissive,. Example can be seen in his response to the blackmail by 2nd FL. He broke every promise made to FL to hide dark past. The Female lead in turn was too naive and headstrong. He stupidity caused her to fall in every trap her rivals laid for her.

The female lead acting was so bad. She's on top of my list of worse actor. I watched the second episode hoping for some improvment. Even the handsomeness of the male lead and the fabulous work everone else put in could not save her. OH my boss, was my first time seeing her on the big screen, I researched her other works, they were of the same claiber. That's why I plan to avoid any drama that she stars in.

The Truth

Okay so here is the truth about this show. It is an amazing show coming from a person who watched a fanmade video then comes to the comments of Drama list. Seeing how bad most of the comments are. You just have to watch it for yourself because everyone has a different opinion about this drama. The comments can be misleading about what is actually going on in the drama. I watched a youtube video on this drama and I can understand why they said that. But I don't think they actually watched the whole drama. I loved it!!! So if you are looking for a comment to tell you to go watch for yourself. This is the comment. GO WATCH IT!!!

Light and enjoyable

It is a boss and secretary romance with a male lead tragic past which is also not very major. So the plot is really basic and has very little content.
The male lead at first is very confusing and somewhat irritating but later on everything becomes alright.
According to thai dramas, all the aspects were similar, like, the acting was alright ( could be improved ). But what I liked is unlike many popular thai dramas, this drama has not portrayed consent violation as romantic. Moreover, I have not found any consent violation in the drama (point it out to me if I am wrong coz' its really important)
The story is really light, so basically gets a bit boring which calls for a very average rating, still I rated it high enough due to the normalcy found in between the couple unlike most thai dramas I watched, where there is rampant consent violation, stalking and alike being presented as romantic or 'normal'.

Boring

Story line is good but I think direction is not good . At the starting episode had shown that the female lead among friend is extrovert but among strangers is introvert so when male lead approach near her so why she didn't show any objection and instead of it she did mind calculation to judge him but not stopping him to come to near her and starting falling for him . Their company handle japanese stuff but not a single speak japanes more often . Boss and assistance's love the way started is seemed to be very fast , It should be little slow then when misunderstanding was created between them should stretch little more but on the moment misunderstanding started at the same moment it solved . Above all leads actings I really don't like but all supporting characters were good .Leads didn't bring expression properly on their face according to the situation .

THIS IS BETTER THAN WHAT PEOPLE SAY !!!

After reading some of the reviews I've seen people call this show cheesy and comment on the poor acting skills. I want to start by saying that Luke Voyage aka Luke Ishikawa Plowden is not only from America but Thai is not his first language. This was his first major role and being that Thai isn't his first language he did a pretty awesome job. He also had to learn Japanese for the role so he did major studying and practicing on the sidelines to prepare. A lot of people aren't appreciating the effort he put into this role nor the lack of experience he has with acting overall. Everyone has to start somewhere and for him to get over all the hurdles and still make a decent lakorn is quite impressive. I'd also like to mention that this is NOTHING like LOVE PHANTOM. I saw people mention that over and over, but Love phantom was honestly horrible and it made no sense. It went from 0 to 1000 in a matter of one episode. This drama definitely has more substance than that, a better storyline, and it even comes with a TWIST!

I also want to comment on the actual story line I saw a lot of people shitting on the storyline saying they've seen it before, but this show actually comes with a twist. I think the problem is the way it's introduced can confuse many watchers. At first glance you think the show is one way but it turns out to be another.

PLOT TWIST DONT CONTINUE READING BECAUSE I'M SPOILING THE ENDING
The problem I personally had with the show is the way they progressed Luke's Character. As him and the Noonmnin started dating the audience starts to see that he's hiding more than we expected. Most could have guessed this since we saw many scenes where an unnamed woman kept calling him and then she shows up to his apartment while Noon is there. We can obviously suspect they had some kind of either romantic or innate relationship in the past by the way this mysterious woman comes on to him. I don't think there's anything wrong with that because in a rom drama there's often a person put in place to make the other jealous and to cause tension. The issue is where the producers and writers take this drama leaves everyone confused.


HERE IS THE TWIST !!!!!

It's not even that Akitsuki had a previous relationship with this woman he was her secret prostitute. Now listen.. this would have been mind-blowing and cool if they introduced it better, but it also seems so thrown together at the end. They finally tell the backstory of Akitsuki towards the end which leaves many of the audience confused. The story totally went a different direction than expected.


WHAT I'D DO DIFFERENTLY :)
Okay so this drama would have been a lot better if they'd make the BOSS more dark and mysterious. In some scenes he's super aggressive, but it isn't consistent. He also lacks the edge and darkness that's needed if they want to reveal a huge secret like the fact that he was a male prostitute at the end. They made him to lovey and bubbly throughout the lakorn so when they dropped the bomb on us that he was a prostitute it just seems like it came out of nowhere. I'd also like to say again that this was not all of Luke's fault as he did his best with what he had and for someone who had to learn two languages for this role I truly think he did better than most people would.


In conclusion I'd take everything I wrote into consideration before watching this lakorn, but I definitely recommend it!

It could have been better.

Judging from the title I could envision what the storyline would be and I was indeed right. The plot was certainly cliché but the chemistry of the ML and FL is there so props to them. I even find myself smiling when I watched this drama. I think the characters could have been better especially the portrayal of the FL like what are you doing girl why are you such a people pleaser. The male lead saved his performance because of his good looks so despite the half baked acting it was ok and bearable to watch. This was also his first lead drama so he has a lot of room to grow. I am still contemplating if I'll finish this drama or what because halfway through ep 10 I'm already bored. I did not have that urge to keep watching because I was not hooked by the endings of each episode. This drama could have been better it could have been more funnier or sexier but for it to just sit in the middle just doesn't work well for me. All in all it ok.

interesting premise that lacked build up and tension

i feel like the show had potential but they filled it with cute cringe moments and it all began too early. i think many people feel the same but once characters get into a relationship and there is not as much tension the show isn’t as interesting. this is more in enemies to lovers but i fee like this is the same. there was not enough tension and build up between the main characters which lead into an uninteresting transition into their relationship. when he asked her to be his gf i was like … oh is that it. it was good to get a break from toxic MCs but as i didn’t finish the show, the guy seems a bit sceptical so he could be hiding something. i could not continue the show as it started to feel like a waste of my time. the ML was very good looking and has potential to make it big in the lakorn industry with more experience. Luke is new to acting so I understand why his performance wasn't amazing. He did well using his eyes to show certain expressions, other than that there is room for improvement.
