One of the best dramas

This is my absolute favorite drama along with love and redemption! I’m not a big fan of Chun Huas personality but Shanggun Qiuyue is amazing. He’s also beautiful. I’ve rewatched it repeatedly. I highly recommend this drama but I don’t really consider it a comedy or light hearted. It does have a lot of second hand embarrassment from Chun Hua though. She’s really mean to Shanggun Qiuyue and hurts him constantly. She’s mean all the way to the last episode. I didn’t like the actress because of Chun Hua (silly I know) and didn’t want to watch any of her other dramas but I watched the long ballad and changed my mind.

? HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT ??

Bloody Loved and Enjoyed this drama!!! Who said that the Only Heroes can be the main character all the time, Evil/devil character are better ( And that's what I liked about this drama, the fact that the main lead is not some kind of king or general, but the most badass/feared leader of the evil clan) *and Powerful*. There has never been a drama where it has managed to give me a painful and sore eye from all the crying. It touched my heart, literally like I could generally feel the pain and had to put my hand over my heart to calm it down. The actors/acting were spectacular, storyline phenomenal, Music A-MA-ZING. Especially Li Hongyi his Acting over the roof 10+. I want/hope there will be Season 2, I want them to pay me back for all the gallons of tears I had shred from this drama. ??? I want more???

Actions speak louder than words

It might be obvious for some, but for me, I had no idea who the male lead was and to my surprise, it was a good torture.

For the budget this drama had, I appreciate the sets and costume. I really loved the FL’s costumes, they were light and airy and the colors were beautiful. The CGI wasn’t to par and a lot of the sets were old, but they did brighten it up with vibrant colors and new paint trim.

I love me a good love triangle and I love a triangle where you don’t really know who you are rooting for. Zhao Lu Si is the FL and she is very pretty and bubbly to look at. Her face is so youthful and her expressions are adorable. She was the perfecting casting, even though she’s only 23.

This is my first drama with Li Hong Yi (brother) and June Wu (the crush). I personally wasn’t fond of Qiu Yi’s (the brother) look. It was very feminine and flowy, but I guess they went that route because he’s the leader of the demon sect and the white costume he wore mostly contrast his “evil” deeds. I also didn’t like Xiao Bai’s (the crush) look either. His wig was probably the most horrible wig I’ve seen for a main cast person. You can 100% see the net lining, the costume people dropped the ball on that. I’m glad Qiu Yi’s had a long wig and there was no net lining. Also, as an American, I noticed A LOT of dramas with the name Xiao Bai, is this like a hot name or something? It’s a cute name, but I’m just curious to why it’s so popular.

Anyhow, casting was spot on. I love Li Hong Yi’s expression and persona he created for his character. He pulled off the elegant, but evil person down. The chemistry between him and the FL was very good. Now, as for June Wu, maybe it’s his character, but his expressions where lacking and he just seemed very emotionless and I was underwhelmed. I couldn’t really see his love for the FL and yes, he’s pretty to look at, but his wig (and I know it’s not this fault) completely turned me off. Maybe they did that on purpose, I don’t know.

The push and pull throughout the drama was pretty addicting to watch, once you got into the heart of the story. I had to get past the first few episodes where the FL was falling all over the crush, because it was just a little over the top silly for me, but ONCE you get into the deeper part of the story, it really takes off.

The best part of the drama for me was when they started to build up the relationship and characters between the FL and both guys. You got each person’s POV and that’s when I was trying to figure out who she would end up with.

Like most C dramas, they extend the story a touch too long and the last eight episodes got dramatic, over the top and misunderstandings start to unfold. You got the push away storyline and that’s just pretty much typical right? Once I got past all of that again, I was left satisfied finishing.

QY character is the best, clever and strong, LHY do the best in this drama,

The make up so messy for man, ML is beautiful then FL, his face so amazing.

XB character is useless and boring, I never feel righteous of him.

FL so childish since the beginning till the end she's useless and do nothing for the ML, only created problem and ML save her again and again. She need to find the true love but I felt she never have true love, when she upset with one side she always move to another and her actions look like she have small feeling to QY but deep feeling for XB,

The story line so slow but worth for watching for who like QY character and the romance ❤️

An angel will burn you for the world, the devil will burn the whole world for you

This was designed to be a light watch, with a hint of something deeper as it progressed. However, at least for me, it fell short somewhere along the way. More specifically, with one character to wreck the whole train.

LBTI starts off pretty vaguely, I do wish the beginning premise was more fleshed out, but it quickly shapes into a tantalizingly fun mystery/romance. The acting is done well, especially for QY's character (this dramas saving grace) and the plot progresses nicely along the way. The music really didn't catch my attention in this.

What wrecked this watch for me was the FL's character turns out to be a ditzy, self-righteous person. It made the last twenty episodes excruciating to muddle through, with the last episode being a breath of fresh air. LBTI strives so be a deeper drama about the blurring of lines with regard to what it right and wrong. If everybody tells you something is right, is it actually right or is there greed simmering beneath the white surface? It gives many pointed examples of what greed and pride can do to a society. Unfortunately, the ping pong game that was the love triangle ruined it.

This does mainly focus on the main character finding her "Mr. Right" and the ensuing trouble it causes in a place where she can't take care of herself. Cue the most indecisive character actions since scientists deciding if Pluto was a planet or not. If you're not into a back and forth love triangle, this isn't for you. QY was the main saving grace for this drama as I only continued watching for his happy ending.

I'm not sure if I would recommend this as it was a painful forty episode watch for me. But, if you're looking for a light-ish romance driven wuxia drama, then maybe give this a shot.

This is a cute and fresh drama and I found it pretty good despite the low budget. However, the time travel theme is getting old and in this case it made no sense at all. The story started off very promising but ChunHua's character got really annoying as the story went on. But I stayed for Qiuyue, he really hard carried this drama. Chunhua originally set off to find true love by giving up immortality but I was disappointed in her perspective of true love. She chased Xiaobai because she was told whoever she sees first will be her true love, she followed everything that was predetermined for her without trusting her own heart. Xiaobai is probably everyone's least favorite character but I don't hate him. Xiaobai did like and love Chunhua, just not enough, but Chunhua continued to test his love for her without ever giving him anything either. She never truly loved him and was always causing trouble so it's not fair to Xiaobai that he's the bad person for not picking her because she never picked him in the first place. She was asking him to give up martial arts for her and for their love but their love never even existed. How can he throw away his passion for a love that is so weak. Yes he didn't love her enough but she never loved him either so it's not fair that Xiaobai has to make a decision. She only liked him because she was told to. Then she continues to run back and forth between the two guys which made her really annoying. The overall story isn't very engaging, I skipped through the second half. But the romance between Qiuyue and Chunhua is really cute!

Voted for Zhao LuSi best couple

Zhao LuSi is always taking in role from modern life transported to ancient time and this is another one of them. No matter, Zhao LuSi also always won my heart with her beautiful smile and cute face. I like June Wu (Xiao Bai) better than the other guy main lead Li Hong Yi (Shenguan Qie Yue) because he's creepy although he's devious manipulative cruel bad guy..he has a soft spot for Chun Hua. The other hand, Xiao Bai was an influenced-up-right straight face boring fiance of Chun Hua while she believed he's the one for the love her life. Her choice was either the boring one (but kind of handsome) or the creepy devious one (but lead more interestingly life). The companions Liu YiTong (Qin LiuFeng) and the other two skinny girls were just hang out there, contributing nothing to the wealth of main lead characters. I watched on and off, skipped episodes, just to get to the end of story and how disappointed I was when Chun Hua were rather spend her life with the creepy guy. Heard that LuSi always have good chemistry with her leading men but not this one so I still voted Zhao LuSi's best couple were with Zheng YiCheng, Ryan Ding, or Liu YuNing....

Anyone can give up immortality for a love like this

If you like antiheroes, you are gonna love this. I have watched 40 episodes and I want to watch it again. 'Gege' has definitely replaced 'oppa' in my vocabulary.

I have seen other works of both Zhao Lusi and Li Hongyi but I felt like they really showed their emotions in this one than in their other works. Their chemistry in this was combustible (yep, I now ship them because of this). Li Hongyi was just so beautiful and sexy as the unpredictable antihero QY. His mesmerizing eyes gave off a dangerous, tempting vibe. He was so manipulative but I couldn't hate him. His love for ChunHua was worth giving immortality up. Zhao Lusi showed Chunhua's growth from a naughty and innocent girl to a slightly skeptical one, but through it all you can see that she was really just searching for that one true love. She kept denying to herself that she was already falling for QY because she though he was not her Mr Right.

June Wu as XiaoBai as the SML was also a great. He was able to portray a handsome, nice, respectful unromantic guy who was slowly falling for Chunhua's flirting. In the end you can see that he truly loved ChunHua, it just wasn't meant to be.

The time travel element is unimportant, it is better to just treat it as a xanxia. The ending actually felt kinda rushed. Events like what happened after QY and XB made their difficult decision were told by another character instead of actually being shown. I also wanted some scenes showing how the leads lived after their reunion. This does not mean I want a season 2, because I already love this drama as it is, but I would definitely look out for another collaboration of the two lead actors.

I don't usually care about OSTs but I really liked Zhao Lusi's campy opening song and Li Hongyi's emotional ending song. That they used Li Hongyi's song in the most romantic scenes gave it that oomph factor that melts you into a puddle.

Would definitely rewatch especially the sweet scenes between CH and QY.

I liked this drama, but by that I mostly mean the otp. I thought the 2nd ML was more interesting than the ML and had resigned myself to 2nd ML syndrome, but then after a few episodes I was like WAIT he is the ML?! and started liking the drama infinitely more. He is not a good guy, don't get me wrong, but I thoroughly enjoyed him. They carried the show while the supporting characters ran around investigating the same boring, drawn-out mystery for the entire series. (Although, I did appreciate that the supporting female characters had definite vibes. I mean, they technically had male love interests...but the vibes.)

If you are interested because the synopsis makes it sound vaguely futuristic/sci-fi, don't be fooled. The framing device of her being from the future and going into a VR program is irrelevant. I genuinely don't know why they bothered including it. She could have just been the actual girl waking up with amnesia and basically nothing would have changed plot-wise; the entire drama takes place within the "VR" which is just a fusion/historical/cultivation/fantasy 'verse.

Also, there is a faux-cest element. The audience never thinks they're actually siblings and both of them know they're not actually siblings, so it didn't bother me but I figure some people might want to know in advance since they play into it for most of the drama. And honestly I'm still not over the audacity of him claiming to be her biological brother and then hitting on her in the same breath. And then rinse and repeat for the rest of the drama lol, the man has no shame.

Overall: worth it for the otp but I'd probably only rewatch to skim for their scenes.

Tries to be deep but fails

Rated= 8 ~ 27/50 ~ 5.4
RPG Scene // Mermaid stranded in the Crumbling Castle. Axe is blunt.

This is my 3rd series with Li Hong Yi where I feel like he's played the same character. I definitely feel like he's been type casted now as this silent and brooding mystery guy, and if it's a romance, he'll utterly adore you type of character. Whether this is a deliberate play on his good looks or he just likes these characters, who knows, but I hope he gets a different kind of character next time. I feel it's a shame as a viewer to see an actor just play the same character over and over, just in a different story so I can't imagine how frustrated the actor must feel at not being allowed to stretch their wings and see what they can do in their craft.

This story starts of on a very unusual note and then it just kind of forgets about it. We start off in the future with our FL telling 'the system' what she wants in her partner, then getting into the machine and waking up in her new reality as a girl with amnesia and in the middle of a crime scene. Since we never go back to this future life, there's no mention of her life there, family friends, there's nothing, so I can't help but feel like it was a little unnecessary. I understand it's the opening to the show and the reason why this girl is dropped into a mid-plot story, but I feel like there could of been other ways of conveying that without giving you visuals of a future reality and then dropping you back into ancient China because I then spent the rest of the series thinking all the other characters were other people within the system and everyone was just hooked up to a machine like a sleep project. It was very disjointing for me but that may just be me.

FL is in this reality because she gave up her immortality to find her idealistic version of true love, hence the title but funny enough, the whole basis of the plot is a supposed 'fruit of immortality' that we spend the whole series watching all the righteous sect leaders massacre each other in search of.

In the midst of this we have our FL, and 2 ML. I opened this review stating that I hope Li Hong Yi gets a different character next time but in this show, I feel like he carried most of the weight here. If it wasn't for his character, I would rate this show more around a 5 or 6. But I've given it an 8 simply because I love anti heroes like the one he plays and he kept me watching.

Qui Yue is scheming, suave, very powerful and a little unpredictable. I really hated his main wig. They have it brushed back and tight to his head which kind of gave him a slimy, creepy vibe. I much preferred it parted in the middle that we see for a while later on. He also was very bent over in this series as well. I don't know if is bad posture for Li Hong Yi because this was 2019 but it was giving Severus Snape LOL Hard to see Li Hong Yi's beauty kind of spoiled a little by bad styling.
From the get go, we know that Qui's wants our FL, badly, and apparently has already had a love affair with the owner of her body. This, much to my disappointment was never really explored and really wish they had, to give some sort of weight to the drama that Hua wakes up in. But it was left open and just kind of brushed away, only brought up when it was convenient. He's clearly seen her body but it's later, with one sentence, Qui says that she took her clothes off in front of him. She liked him but he didn't like her but from the start was clearly a little obsessed. That was very confusing for me which is why I wish the 'affair' had been explored more because it was almost like baiting you with complicated entanglements and then the writers chickened out and focused on everyone killing each other instead. Qui's character is the reason I finished this series because he's my favourite kind of character and I kept waiting to get more about his background and the complications that have made him the way he is, but I only got crumbs. So as much as I loved the character, I really hate the writers for not giving me what I wanted.

Our other ML is Xiao Bai and he's your typical lawful good character. He was another character that the writers tried to be deep with and then they just kind of give up. Once we get to the what I call 'breaking the ego' scene that you get with very stoic characters, he becomes possessed randomly and then once the star item is returned, he goes back to normal. Once again, a plot device that just kind of falls away. The writers were trying to do something here and it never works out. Why did that happen? Was he being poisoned or was this a type of curse from the ice star thing? I was a little confused because they never really explained it.
I did feel kind of sorry for XB though because he was guarded from the start against Hua, who just throws herself at him and between his friends, eventually develops feelings and then is left to look like the villain because he stuck to his values when his values have always been apparent. At least to me, this not a choose his lover type of man. He's the son of the head of chief of all the clans, he's going to pick his responsibilities first and expecting anything else is a kind of unfair.

Poor CaiCai gets cast aside as a love rival but quickly shows herself to be very compassionate and emotional mature, in comparison to Hua, and I'm disappointed that there was no real ending for her. We got baited again that perhaps XB would recognise her feelings but it's made out that it's because he's possessed, he's rebounding and she's just kind left at the end with no real closure on anything. I wish there had been some sort of understanding between them in the end rather than just leaving her with the knowledge that her father was a crook. We don't know what happens to her after that and for such a supportive character, who doesn't act vindictively towards the FL, which is highly unusual for c-drama romances, I'm kind of angry on her behalf that she wasn't given a conclusion.

Our secondary couple are a sweet breath of air amidst all this confusion. They are sweet and funny and for me personally, both give off a little BI vibes and perfectly OK with that LOL And we get a brief conclusion for them thanks to the chopping editing, which becomes increasingly more choppy half way through. It's very apparent at times, that a lot of scenes are being cut to fit into the time frame. Which is sad from a story telling pov. The audience is not meant to see that. It breaks the flow of the narrative.

The music and sets are pretty regular for these types of shows and honestly, my favourite set was the flower field.
As the styling, OH. MY. GOSH, was it a failure like I have never seen before.
I could see the wig lining to every single male character's forehead, just caked with makeup. And at times, Li Hong Yi's eye make up looked smeared. I don't know what happened there but what on earth was hair and make up doing?

Li Hong Yi is a gorgeous young man to look at and I've never been so distracted from a beautiful face, with cakey flour make up, smeared and sometimes uneven eye liner with a wig line in full view. It would seem all the men had the same problem yet the women looked nearly flawless. I don't understand what happened there.

As for the ending, I'm satisfied with it. It was an emotionally mature approach to the series of events and I guess for our FL who starts off like a love-struck pre teen with a very idealistic expectation of love and romance and ends much humbler and confident in her choices.

Overall, my full rating should be a 6 but I'm giving it an 8 simply because I also include how I feel watching a show as well as the logical breakdowns. And I was pretty invested and at point, did feel emotional. If I wasn't so interested in Qui's character, and for that one scene that had me misty eyed, this absolutely deserves a lower rating. I probably won't be watching it again but I enjoyed it for what it was.

Great to pass the time. Great acting, meh story.

Starting off I feel it's important to point out that I didn't watch this when it came out in 2019, but in 2024, which explains a lot of my sentiments below. Despite Zhao Lusi being my favorite actress, I watched this drama rather late.

Strong, intelligent and mature characters are my favorite, as well as playful and funny ones. To be completely honest the FL's character here was not my cup of tea. Though she did get a bit more mature towards the end, she still was very naive in her views about justice and in her actions.

I 100% get that the ML had done a ton of questionable things, but so had everyone else. In an environment where everyone was out to get everyone and especially the ML, it's pretty obvious that he could not afford to be soft hearted, otherwise he'd end up dead. I'm not excusing his actions, all I'm saying is that he wasn't worse than most "good people" in the story. Everyone had their own views about justice and what's right, in the drama. The FL very immaturely thought that
• 1stly, everybody shares the same beliefs as her and when she realizes that it's not true she
•2ndly believes that she can convince everyone to change.
She constantly blames the ML, which I get it, it's understandable to feel hurt and kind of betrayed by some of his actions, like him using her. But honestly, what did she expect? From the very beginning it was very clear that he was using her, to steal the 2ml's martial art style. He had literally told her, it wasn't a secret. Not to mention how she always pushed the ML to help her "friends" (they barely considered her their friend for most of the story) and the 2ndML, whilst CLEARLY knowing that they are quite literally MORTAL ENEMIES. She made the ML give the 2ndML the snow lotus to stabilize his inner qi so that he can continue to use his martial arts and basically antagonize the ML (bc that's what he does) and I'm like - ughhh- I'm seriously so frustrated. Did she seriously think that Xiao Bai would even for a moment, be thankful to QY and suddenly decide he no longer wishes to kill him, bc he's his savior? I think not. She is so naive it's annoying. And it's not like she didn't use the ML as well (e.g. when she tried to get the antidote for FC). She was upset about him using her (which is completely understandable), but she already knew she was being used in the beginning (for the martial arts book).

Also she was way too critical of the ML. That can be clearly seen by how she kept on forgiving Xiao Bai again and again and tried to make things work with him, even after he used her. The 2ndML did the exact same thing, he used her, when they were gonna marry each other and also when he tried to kill QY but ended up hurting him instead. Unfortunately she was way more tolerant and forgiving with him than with the ML. The worst thing the FL did, in my opinion, is try to help Xiao Bai and his friends, when she clearly knew they were the ML's enemies, which ended up hurting him and almost killing him.

Although I'm very frustrated with the way the FL's character was written, I loved Zhao Lusi's acting, as always it was superb. I only wished they had used her own voice. I liked the ml's character, though he indeed was a bit too cruel. I honestly would've loved for him to reach his goal and become the leader of all the martial arts sects as he wanted. Li Hongyi did an amazing job in his portrayal (Worth to be mentioned, the white wig suited him so much, which is quite difficult to pull off). The main couple's chemistry was great. I really wish they star in another drama together, now after all those years, with a higher budget and a great plot. Be it historical fantasy or modern I'd watch it. I wasn't particularly fond of the 2ML's portrayal, to me he seemed a bit too stoic and his body movements seemed somewhat rigid and unnatural. Not gonna lie the special effects aren't good at all and the production doesn't seem that high quality, but the leads' acting saved it.

In conclusion I really like Zhao Lusi's and Li Hongyi's acting. I can't say that I loved it as a story or as a production, but it was great to pass the time, mainly bc of the main couple's bickering. The leads' chemistry was amazing and it would be the only reason to re-watch!
