great concept & actors -- subpar plot
this is a super late review as i only considered watching this drama bc of the ML since i enjoyed business proposal.the concept of abyss is super cool but the naivity of both the ML and FL when approaching the crime scenes often irritates me.
the plot progression gets worse with each episode and i only watched this much bc of the ML.
the only scenes i rly enjoyed were the rom com elements as it's super heavily filled with sci fi and mystery yet it's not developed well.
im kinda disappointed as this is the only kdrama ive dropped

Had So Much Potential To Be Amazing (but was ultimately just okay)
Abyss was a rollercoaster unlike no other. It had me changing my opinion of it with every episode.STORY: Some episodes were really great with the right balance of crime, comedy, romance, and thriller, with the addition of well executed storytelling. Whereas, other episodes were plain messy and had left me feeling frustrated with the characters' dumb decisions. On one hand, I disagree with a lot of opinions out there about this drama being to confusing or lackluster. But on the other hand, I agree that the story could have been executed waaaaaaaaaay better. I followed along pretty fine most of the time, so I wasn't having a hard time in that regard, but it still felt clumsy at times and the rules of Abyss (the marble itself) felt awfully convenient when they revealed themselves. So yes, plot holes are there. But I don't think the plot is as badly written as others make it out to be. Plus, the romantic storyline really held this show together - personally, I found it to be perfect and the leads were so cute together. I loved the themes of friendship too and how they developed slowly (and convincingly) throughout the drama. The only story aspect of this drama that let it down due to some messiness and senselessness is the crime (supernatural? alien? thriller?) part. And the ending. But that's completely personally preference. I'm sure a lot of people are satisfied with the ending but I really wasn't. I don't know, it lacked something (emotional impact?) for me. And I hate that kind of ending - I can't say without going into specifics but there's something (related to time) that I don't like. If you know, you know. Plus, I was still left with questions.
ACTING/CAST: Okay, why is everyone lowkey hating on AHS's acting performance in this? They say things like "... he's a little green, but he's done an alright job..." In my opinion, he did great! He nailed the right emotions during his scenes without overexaggerating and he does exceptional in romance scenes (especially kiss scenes lol). Also, he gives off that puppy vibe in this that vaguely reminds me of The Great Lee Jong Suk. Obviously, there's some improvement that could be done in some areas of his performance but I don't see the importance of nitpicking. PBY did a great job too and they had amazing, natural chemistry which is all we could ever long for.
MUSIC: Nice, fitting, and catchy.
REWATCH VALUE: Low for me because watching this storyline play out again would just exhaust me - OH that's another thing. This drama somehow felt draggy because it wasn't (? I don't know how to explain this). Basically, so much was happening in every episode and it almost always felt like I was watching a finale (or the build up to one) and therefore, it felt like the show went on forever.
IN CONCLUSION: I gave Abyss a 7/10 because I think it was good, had a great romantic storyline, the comedy was great when it happened, and I definitely recommend watching it at least once! And despite it's outward appearance - and the premise - this show isn't trying to say that "looks are all that matters", it's trying to say that "what's in the inside is what counts". Your soul. It's not like Cha Min was reborn handsome and Se Yeon was suddenly in love with him. If that had happened, I would have dropped this drama straight away for being shallow.
Anyway, give it a go and form your own opinion!

WORTH WATCHING but very frustrating sometimes
This drama is WORTH WATCHING! but after setting a very interesting plot and characters it starts showing a lot of flaws as the show continues to struggle to keep the mystery and romance interesting. The plot got to a point where the characters were comically being the dumbest group of people in any mystery/crime show I've seen. They kept being separated or running on their one, without no one stopping them for absolutely no reason and for multiple times. The FL instead of being smart or knowing how to deal with pressure, from being in law, will do the most hot headed decisions and run it more and more trouble. Even some of the most fundamental mechanics of the abyss stop working or start showing plotholes.
The acting, other and the FL, is mostly lacking(not to a point of it ruining anything) ... but at least the actors were pretty to look at.
They could have explored a bit more the ML feels of being humiliated for 20 years by the FL. It felt like the character was lacking some self respect or realness because of that.
The OST was non existent for me, I don't recall any moment where I felt something by the music.
I felt like at some point I was in a loop and while it was fun I never want to go back!!

final horrible

Don't expect the title to be explained
So much hype on this during promotion that I added on my watch list. The start isn't going to hook you to watch, tho I continued giving it the chance. Few episodes later, i wanted to drop because it dragged and became chaotic. The writer seemed to have used the license to do whatever whenever to the male lead character.
I did say it dragged .... this serirs could have been done in 8 episodes if directed well enough. So many senseless scenes that didnt make sense as to why it was even added. So many scenes came kn without any explanation as to what it is about.
Overall, I felt I wasted my time on this series. FEMALE LEAD character looking just regular and not beautiful anymore was mentioned so many times that it reflected Korea's culture of valuing physical appearances more than humanity.
Last, this series ended without clear explanation of the abyss. It said what it does but why how when were not answered. I wonder why even title it Abyss when the series was a mystery/murder/romance plot.

If you dont like this. We cant be friends
When I say I like Mystery, Crime with a hint of romnace. THIS is what I mean. The end was quiet messy and stretched out. They could've ended it better, the last like 3 episodes were also quiet boring, but, that doesn't affect how intriguing the drama was. The concept, the chemistry, the plot and storyline was all flawless. This was my first ever drama that I gave a 10/10. I don't know why people don't like this but honestly I don't trust you if you don't like this. Its a masterpiece even if it has some flaws. An absolute 10/10Esta resenha foi útil para você?
Chaotic? Oh, absolutely ???
I can’t understand how people rate this a perfect 10. The writing is sloppy, and the thrill feels forced—classic signs of limited creativity.1. The ML: Horrible. He finds a resurrection orb and uses it without a second thought—thank God it had limited uses or he’d be reviving everyone. He ignores a dying witness to chase his ex… and fails at that too. Annoying? 100%.
2. The Legal Plot: A mess. The villain’s either too smart, or the police are brain-dead. Seriously, how did no one see the fishy prosecutor? Don’t even get me started on the mother-daughter duo who kept causing national chaos.
3. Too Many Characters: They tried to add depth but only ended up creating plot holes. It was too much for such a light story.
4. Forced Thrill: No clever conspiracy here—just leads being too dumb to figure out the obvious.
On the bright side, the lead chemistry was fire and, finally, we got an explanation on the ML’s resurrection (most shows skip this). The story got better with the second villain, but much was left unexplained.
Background songs were good though !!!
Watch till episode 4 to see if you can handle it—personally, I skimmed the episode guide to skip the fluff.

Good plot but dissapointing portrayal !
TBH I liked the plot , initially , thats why i got intrigued into watching this after checking out the trailor ! And also i have liked other works of park bo young , so just thought of giving it a shot , but to my dismayal , there is nothing more in this series !There are no good elements to support the plot , instead the story line also gets super boring and messy later. This could have easily finished in 8 episodes easily . all they were doing was running recklessly here and there !! The FL was selfish and weak , she was only good with her brain ! but she was only shouting and running , even after the knowing that the serial killer is after her and the ML was always chasing behind her to rescue her ! and all that was happening on a repeat ! For once i felt that the role dint suit PBY , she could not do justice to it ! Also it was clear that she dint like the ML , coz of his face , they tried to make it like feel like genuine feelings later , but it wasnt convincing enough ! And what was that with the ending ??? The ball disappeared when she took the pregnancy test ??? like reallly ???? Shouldnt it disappear either when she conceived or when she delivered ?
All the characters were super annoying and not well written or developed . ML sometimes becomes smart and sometimes super dumb , as per the convenience . Same for FL and SFL , both are annoying and selfish as hell. I don't blame the actors as they did the good job , but in a show at least few characters needs to be loveable , right ?
In short there was nothing to like about this series in my opinion except for few romantic scenes ! :)

Strong start, headed south for the Winter.
Honestly, this series started off really promising. I mean sure, I wasn't a fan of how the whole 'extreme-makeover' situation was handled, but with a cast like that, I was HYPED-- And then, the Fire Nation attacked.Characters and entire sub-plots were built up, only to be dropped at a moment's notice; nothing made sense, and the plot soon started to feel repetitive and dull-- I mean, is it just me, or does 'murder' kinda lose its edge after the 8th resurrection? At times, I truly did feel like I was watching Dragonball Z again...
Let's take, for example, the character of Hee-jin. Remember how, at one point, she was in pretty much every other scene? That is, until her mother's body got thrown into the sea as part of Oh Tae-jin's 'Pro-gamer move' (which felt both anticlimactic and pointless). After that, we didn't see her again until the very last episode- and that too, only in the drama equivalent of 'you won't believe what they're doing now' clickbait! Seriously, there were so many plot-holes and unanswered questions: how did Cha Min come back? What happened to the real Ji-Uk in the end? WHY WAS SEO IN-GUK A DOG???
I guess what I'm saying is, if you take your drama with milk, sugar or actual resolution, maybe you should skip this one.

Concept was good but story was weak
Abyss ,a marble which gives life back but it changes the face of the person to whom it gives life .with this concept they could make an interesting ,funny along with little romance . There is a romance but they took the story into a murder mystery Which after sometime felt like bored .Starting of the drama would increase the interest level except the first episode but story increase the drama mystery much and not clear as well or I could say not properly executed which made the stary was bored.
The reason I watched full drama because of the acting of the actors . Each character acting was too good . Songs were good but story was weak . Even the ending .

the plot was pretty obvious and to have 16 episodes of this is just testing your patience
you have 2 pretty well establish actors for I can see is a pretty decent budgeted Drama. BUT what we got was a royal mess that even plucking your eyes out wont do it justice! The script writer must have been really out of their elements trying to figure out where to focus. ROMCOM or murder mystery or supernatural
unless you are HUGE fan of the ML and FL..... Please save your time and life by NOT indulging in BS like this. Nothing can save you from wasting your time if you NEVER decide this is even worth your time or not
