Please pay no mind to the star ratings for this review. Because I admit it, I am one of those people for whom this series has nostalgic value. When I first watched it in 2022, this was only my second live-action BL drama (and my first encounter with anything Thai), and I was *fascinated*. I had been reading Japanese BL manga in the early 2000s and I have been a voracious reader of slash fanfiction for more than 25 years now -- but I never knew live-action BLs even existed until 2022.
So, I was feeling slightly overwhelmed, and this makes me feel more favourable towards this series than it deserves.

Because, if we are being honest, apart from Pete and Ae's love story, this drama is not very good.

It starts with the technical side:
The colours are strangely subdued (for a Thai production), without there being a narrative reason for it. The background noise is at times overwhelming (especially in a scene where Pete, his mother and Ae sit near a fountain) -- although at other time I find it charming to hear university life going on in the background. We can hear clothes brushing over microphones in some scenes. Props are not quite what they should be (thereare props from IKEA at rich Pete's house, and school bags are often obviously empty. In some scenes the actors look as if they had to do their own hair and make-up.

The show obviously had a rather low budget; but not everything about it is bad. I love the messy dorm room -- a bit icky, probably hot -- and both the flat colours and the background noise give the university grounds a realistic vibe -- watching the young people in the canteens, on the walkways and on the football field, surrounded by the noise and heat of Thailand, I always feel that this is just one of many stories happening on the campus. It's nothing like most of the newer airbrushed and clean BL drama, which are painfully obviously set in drama-land.

If we're looking at the acting and the directing, the series is mediocre: Some scenes are full of awkward acting -- some are more watchable. Since most actores were complete newbies at the time, I can understand it -- but better directing could have helped here. There are some scenes that are outstanding though. One of them is the beautiful coming out-scene in episode 1 -- the hesitation in the beginning, the way Pete's mum suppresses her own feellings and turns away and towards Pete again and again, the tentative questions and the short but reassuring answers, until both are in tears, the hesitant acceptance in the end -- this is the kind of coming-out scene I miss in newer BLS, where acceptance often is immediate and coming out is no big deal. (And while we here, I love that Pete describes himself as "gay", and doesn't only use descriptive terms.)
And an upopular opinion, maybe: I wish they had cast someone else than Perth for Ae. Don't get me wrong, Perth does a good job (especially considering his age)! But Ae is time and again described as short, stocky and dark -- Perth is none of these. Ae's appearance is an important part of his character though, and one of his sources of insecurity, and I would have liked it bo be more obvious. Alos, I would have liked to see the visual difference between a dark, stocky and short Ae and a light-skinned, tall and lanky Pete.

And now to the most obvious flaws: the storylines. We have five couples here, which is aready too much for a fourteen episode series, and half of them are not what I'd call good romance.
The one with the least screentime is also the worst -- outright rape, and subsequent victim-blaming, which is only played for laughs? Yeah, this is where it becomes very clear that this is based on a MAME story. Since this was a Wabi Sabi production and aired by GMM25, there must have been people in charge who worked independently from MAME and should have been able to cut this from the drama? I really don't want to know what the producers and screenwriter were thinking.
The story of Tar and Tum is very flawed -- I don't really mind that they are step-brothers. Two consenting adults can do what they want, in my opinion, as long as there won't be any children (the risk of genetic diseases is just too high). The thing is, there's no consent here in the scene where Tum tries to assault Tar. What I don't like about this subplot are two things: a) the story neither begins nor ends within the series. We don't know the background if we don't know TharnType, and the story does not stop at a satisfying point. And b) Tar's trauma is not handled well. If he's still victim-blaming himself-- then why is he not still in therapy? Why does his brother not know anything about it? (He doesn't need to know details, but it's quite obviuos that Tum is completely in the dark here.)
Putting the Tar/Tum story and the No/Kengkla plot next to each other -- why? We have a guy thoroughly traumatized by rape and in the same drama, rape is supposed to be something funny? Doesn't compute at all. Why did nobody notice?

Can and Tin, well. This is a mixed bag for me. I strongly dislike the "top pressures the bottom into sexual situations" trope, so I was not enamoured with their story at first, or later. Can is clearly not in a mental place where he is ready to enter *anything* remotely romantic / sexual, and Tin is only trying to get someone so he won't be alone any more, so his pursuing Can is not about Can, only about himself. So, I was really happy with their ending -- Can got a good character development arc, where he ends up realizing what a romantic/sexual relationship could mean for him, understanding that he does not want it at the moment -- and consequently rejecting Tin. Go, Can!
I did love Cha-Aim and Pond. I love their constant bickering, love how she always pushes back at Pond whenever he gets too much. I love a woman who knows her worth, and can clearly communicate her boundaries and her wants. Pond comes across as this slightly icky, sex-crazed porn addict (and I don't love his slightly homophobic attitude at the beginning). But as we get to know him, we can see that behind his "Three S" behaviour, there's actually a guy who cares about his friends deeply, and who never judges people for who they are.

Well, and Pete and Ae? Their love story is the one reason I can't give a lower rating than I did. This is a wonderful teenage love story, with a lot of "firsts" for both of them. I usually don't like the top/bottom dynamics, which are extremely strong here (Ae is rough, strong, possessive, while Pete is meek, soft, and very shy). But with them, it fits -- here, it feels as if they are two halves ot the same whole. And while Ae is extremely possessive, he is also someone who doesn't feel as if he deserved Pete (and seeks reassurance from Pete!). Yes, Ae is clearly the dominant partner -- but as a good dominant partner should, he always chacks in with Pete and tries to be aware of any boundaries. Even the "gay for you" trope works here, since Ae hasn't had any sexual desire before.
Like with any good teenage romance, both Pete and Ae grow in the course of navigating their relationship, and are more adult in the end than in the beginning.

So, can I recommend it?
Not really. There's so many good BL series nowadays, that it's really not necessary to watch this one.
On the other hand, Love by Chance *is* one of the classics which laid the groundwork for following works. And Ae and Pete are just adorable. Should you decide to try it, you should be aware of the show's many flaws and prepare yourself for a rather explicit rape scene in episode 14. Or you can just fast-forward through all of the scenes with Kengkla (No alone is okay) and with Tum or Tar in them. You won't miss anything.

DEAL BREAKERS

SHORT REVIEW AND DEAL BREAKERS!

I honestly liked the show, I just hated the side couples, but I also hope they had more screen time. I'd recommend this series to anyone who is into BLs. LBC is a classic the second one was really bad but that's just my biased opinion seeing as Saint wasn't in it.

The show was great I loved watching it, and I would love watching it again. But there were only a few deal-breakers. First of all the characters (Ae and Tin) were a little aggressive. And usually, I wouldn't mind, but when it comes to love I would like to point out the fact that they made pushing your partner around seem like love. that just doesn't work. For all the teens and or younglings watching this show. you have to know that if your partner is aggressive it's not good for the relationship. the next deal breaker was the fact that the show, in general, lacked gay reparation. Maybe it's just me but scenes got really cheesy really quick. When it comes to gay reparation this does not only apply to this show it applies to most BLs. The next deal-breaker is really based on my opinion. The really long stares were unnecessary. Instead of having the main couple look at each other for 10 minutes straight (over-exaggeration), They could have had a few more scenes with the side couples. Then again I would like to mention that I do like this show and I would watch it again and again, and it's the reason why I got so into BLs. I loved everything about Pete and Ae's relationship. It really did make me feel single.

LBC was my first BL series .. I love the story between ae and Pete . I love how good actor ae is you could literally understand what he wants to say even if don't speak .. his expression are so good.i was so surprised that he was 17 when he shooted.storyline does justice about accidentally meeting strangers to friends and falling in love what I love about their relationship is even they have ups and downs , insecurities but they quicky wrap up whole thing instead of letting things becoming big issues.. Pete is cutest thing ever .. tin can story was like typical enemy to lovers but I felt bad for tin and can because tin didnot get the happiness and can who is late to realise what he feels .tin acting was very impressive.. Tum n tar is something taboo subject but it does happen in real life ..was very impressed with tar acting rape victim I cried when he did .. kengla and pno storyline I didnot like it's totally stalkerish behaviour and his bro was so stupid . Kla shouldnot have taken advantage of pno .. he is too innocent guy.. that was disgusting .. but I was very impressed with kla acting .. good story , music and actors . ....

Contextualizando a história no tempo, a série foi a primeira do famoso "Universo Mame", compostas atualmente pelas séries Love by chance; TharnType 1 e 2; e A chance to love (segunda temporada de Love by chance) e Don't say no (spin-off de TharnType).

Primeiro, o casal principal, Pete e Ae.

Por fim, Tim e Can.

Enfim, a série é apaixonante.

Saint-Perth-Mean-Plan Superb acting

The first few episodes were confusing for me. The story jumps from one prominent lead couple to another supporting couple. From the start finding and focusing on the story was frustrating.
After 5 episodes I became aware of what exactly was happening so I started skipping other characters' scenes. except for Ae's Friend and Pete's friend. after 3-to 4 episodes when Ae's and Pete's story windup (they get together and start living life as boyfriends I skip on that) and focus on Pete's friend 'Tin'. Tin's character and his paired up started to gain my interest. Then I watched Tin and Can's character story till the end. I was disappointed when the series ended with Tin's crying. I was expecting to start season 2 but when I read a review of that. I again faced disappointment to find out they changed Tin and Can character setting and also changed Ae and Pete's character setting. so I will be skipping season 2 and I am done with this.

Let's talk about the production: They cast so many characters and university/house the whole drama setting where drama was shot and the usage of prompts wasted money. They should have focused on the main characters. 2 main couples are also acceptable but 5 couples. it was too much. The story was stuffed.
Ost was good and catchy. The story would have been more interesting if it was only focused on "Ae and Pete" and "Tin and Can".

You can just watch it for fun and don't mind with story. just enjoy beautiful characters and their acting.

It's cute and fluffy.. Premise of the story is common..

I'll just make my review of this series short and simple.. There are pros and cons for this series.. For the pros, the acting is decent especially for the main couple.. personally, there were actors that were a bit stiff and awkward at some scenes but the show was still enjoyable.. The scenes that I mostly enjoyed though were from Pete and Ae and Tin and Can.. The story for this series is common because of the university setting and the typical shy guy falling for the charismatic guy trope for the main couple as well as the enemies trope for the other couple..

What bothered me the most though were the scenes of Pete and Ae. Yes, they're so cute and sweet but if only it were possible, they could've tone it down a bit. I admit that some of those scenes for me were cringy and cheesy..

Anyway, what I love about the series was that it tackled some of the important issues in the LGBT community.. Although the execution was not perfect, it was still a good start for the series. I'm happy that the series ended on a positive note, it's just that the ending could've been better..

In conclusion, the series is still a good watch - average level at best but props/cheers to the actors for portrating their characters..

Okay if youre looking for a show that has a happy ending this is for you. Howveverrrr i need season two to come out already!! thankyou
main couple pete/ae
-The actor that plays ae is so talented and i love the communication that they have. At first i was very very annoyed by their lack of communication but i made it through. Glad their story ended happily but i thought ending the season with them on a phone was lamee
Next couple tin/can
As a non-novel reader i can see their appeal. One is a hurt rich kid who hates everyone and schemes to get his way, but the other is a honest idiot who just tries to do whats right honestly love them cant wait to watch them fix things

One of only a few perfect BL's for me. The story is a very cute boy meets boy and they fall in love tale. There is something nice about a BL being free of the usual gimmick of friends who have a one-night stand or enemies to lovers trope. Ae is a great and unique protagonist as he's rough and tough but he is completely soft towards Pete. He does not try to deny his feelings towards Pete as is the usual method for BL characters. Pete is also a rare character as begins the drama with his sexuality established. It is nice to watch a BL where the main story is a couple falling in love naturally and not drag because of unnecessary drama but because of real life insecurities and doubts.
Pros: The stories for each character are so well thought out.
Cons: Too many couples were presented to give a satisfactory ending to each and unfortunately, behind the scenes drama means we may never get one.

Love love love this series! I must say its one of my top fav BLs ive watched! AePete's story was so adorable and their chemistry was amazing. The kissing scene was filled with passion and wasnt awkward at all despite them both being so young.

Perth left such an impression because I found out he was only 17 when he landed the role. Wow that boy is definitely going places!

Above everything I love how Ae was so supportive of Pete despite him being lgbtq+. They were so sweet and loveable in the series the only disappointment maybe that I heard they arent really talking to each other outside the series anymore? :(

I've literally recommended this series to everyone I know and all of them loved it!

Pretty Good! I recommend :)

PLOT: I noticed there were a lot of bad reviews for this series that almost made me not want to watch it. But I am happy I gave it a chance as it was pretty heartwarming and super cute. The plot was a little fast-paced in terms of the protagonists falling in love with each other but it calmed down through the first few episodes.

ACTING: Personally I really liked Perth who played 'Ae' in the series, as his acting was really good and he stole the spotlight in the series. Even though physically he wasn't suited for the character he still portrayed the role perfectly possessing gentle, dominant, jealous, and possessive sides to him. He made sure to act it all out well. I also liked the acting of Mean who played 'Tin'. He also portrayed his role perfectly with his fear of trusting people and snobbish character. I thought that Saint who played the character of 'Pete' was perfect physically for the role but his acting needs to grow as I felt I was watching a robot for there were no emotions portrayed from him. But he was super cute :)

CHEMISTRY: The protagonists' chemistry was really good they were able to act out as cute lovers without any hints of awkwardness between them and this includes the second couple as well.

I think you should go for it. The couples' love story is worth watching so if you like a story as sweet as sugar this is the one for you:)

On verra bien.
