'You should listen to your wife to live a beautiful and happy life': Park Bo Gum
tvN gives a glimpse of Lee Sun Bin and Kang Tae Oh's The Potato Lab characters.
The Potato Lab follows Kim Mi Kyung (Lee Sun Bin), a passionate researcher obsessed with potatoes and So Baek Ho (Kang Tae Oh), a charismatic but ruthless capitalist driven by making profits. So Baek Ho arrives at the potato research center in a mountain valley, where he clashes with Kim Mi Kyung.
Building buzz for the series, the production team unveiled two character teasers giving a glimpse of Kim Mi Kyung and So Baek Ho's charms.
The first teaser begins with Kim Mi Kyung, a passionate researcher at the Potato Research Institute, responding, "Of course!" when asked, "Are there people who actually study potatoes?" She exudes the aura of an expert as she makes her entrance. However, the following scenes take an amusing twist to her life as a researcher. Contrary to her narration — "I am nothing short of professional. Could there be a more perfect researcher than me? That's exactly who I am!" — Kim Mi Kyung is seen tirelessly juggling between being a researcher and a farmer.
The bold and easygoing Kim Mi Kyung may seem like an aimless slacker at first glance, but actually, she is a veteran employee with 12 years of experience under her belt and has dedicated six years to potato research. The scenes paint a picture of her chaotic daily life as the "official potato-obsessed eccentric" who has staked her entire life on potatoes.
So Baek Ho's character teaser evokes laughter with his unexpected clumsiness. The man appears flawless in every way — from head to toe. But, he is, in reality, a cold-hearted capitalist, a pragmatist with no empathy.
He wears a puzzled expression when he sees the Potato Research Institute, which is at the very bottom of the company chart of Seonnyeo Foods, and says, "Potato Research Institute? A company pursues profit, and I don't think we have any obligation to take responsibility for people who don't contribute to that goal…" His words hint at the storm that will soon hit the Potato Research Institute.
Despite his warning that he will clean up anything useless at any time, So Baek Ho's determination crumbles as he is dragged around, tumbling through the potato fields. This foreshadows his tumultuous institute journey.
Meeting the unpredictable variable Kim Mi Kyung in a place where his principles don't apply, So Baek Ho vows, "I will never break my principles," but the real question is whether he can hold to his word.
