Lee Seung Gi formally shared that he and his wife Lee Da In have made the difficult decision to officially cut ties with his in-laws following a breakdown of trust within the family.
On April 29, Lee Seung Gi's father-in-law, Lee Hong Heon (also Lee Da In's father), was reportedly taken into custody on charges related to stock price manipulation at Quantapia, a renewable energy company.
With this, Lee Seung Gi released an official statement relating to the issue:
Hello, this is Lee Seung Gi.
I am writing this with a heavy heart.
Despite a fine in the retrial concerning the ongoing allegations against my father-in-law, investigative authorities have now indicted him again for similar unlawful acts. Having placed my trust in the family and awaited the outcome, I am devastated and speechless by his repeated wrongdoing.
I regret my carelessness last year in not carefully reviewing the issues related to my father-in-law. As a firm believer that illegal wrongdoings should be dealt with appropriate punishment, I sincerely apologize to the victims who may have been affected by my poor judgment and to everyone who believed and trusted me.
Having lost the trust within our family due to this incident, my wife and I have concluded after extensive discussion that it is necessary to finish our relationship with her family. Going forward, I will dedicate myself to living by ethical principles and acting responsibly to contribute to a healthier society.
Once again, I sincerely apologize for the concern and disappointment this personal matter has caused.
