Another story that takes shortcuts

Well, I was interested in seeing where this story was heading after the first season's last episode twist. I liked the period setting of the first season and grew to care for the characters, so I was already invested in them enough to look forward to season 2. Unfortunately, I felt it far too rushed and the 7 episode season, too short to tell a proper story. Because the new season was taking place in the present, there needed to be some backstory on just how it's possible for our young leads to still remain young in the 21st century. Though there are scenes explaining this, the lore became muddled and, then, back tracked itself. When scripts do this kind of thing---negating what they themselves create, they lose me. It gives me the sense that the writers themselves didn't quite know how to end this storyline, or at least the main couple's story arc in this series. What we seem to get is a possible continuation of the series without the main leads, as it seems by the end of this season, headed in that direction.

What I liked about season one is that it had heart. I accepted the messy mother/daughter relationship and how it's the main purpose of season one. A mother will do anything to protect her child, even if it turns her into a monster figuratively, and in this case--literally. Holding on to her humanity made season one compelling, which is what season 2 seems to lack. It lacks direction and I felt sick to my stomach seeing endings for characters I never imagined. Around the end of the 4th episode, I started asking myself what the point of it all was? Master Jang explains it's to make the bad guys feel guilty, and if not, be a nuisance to them. But this rings hollow to me. There wasn't enough aha moments to balance out the pointless violence. It also leaves me with lots of unanswered questions like, what has Biotech evolved to since the end of the war? What do they hope to achieve with their experiments? Then there is the messy plot holes which will only be spoilers if I mention them.

In general, I would have appreciated this more if the writers would have taken the time to delve deeper into the story. It had a good premise, but evolved into another pointless monster movie akin to Sweet Home's last season.

An Prologue nothing more.

Firstly the drama felt slow. Almost like nothing much happened for some reason.

Furthermore for some reason the threat felt small in terms of scale.. maybe it's because we didn't see how it would affect the people If the bad side did win? But from start to finish we never had a moment where it felt huh they might actually loose this fight.

The Reveal of what happened to ML that led up to the present situation felt too slow to some extent.

The plot felt the same. ML just get in to a similar situation but this time he a lil dumb. ?

ML *in a nutshell in both seasons* :
Get in a position where he has to do something to save himself from an unfair situation > Finds that the FL is involved in it. > Mistake her for an enemy > find out she is fine and decide to worked with her.

FL *in a nutshell in both seasons* :
Gets involved with him cause he badges in > tries to avoid him and warn him > Turn down the deal to worke together > accepts the offer with a rule that is not to ask her personal questions.

Heck even some dialogues feel like de ja vu. ?

This just feels like a prologue to a story that is about to begin.
The FL stays the same through out the drama (If not a little more depressed?)
The ML lost memories gets them back like a switch flip.?

The entire drama took place cause that one "friend" you let down wanted revenge.

The acting was good. The visual direction they took for this looks so pretty too. Except for some fighting sequences that were for some reason shot under darkness, I get that they wanna make CGI look better by doing it in low light but still.. ಠ_ಠ

The newly introduced characters were fun I guess. (Or more like the same people....)

One nitpick is the guy that was the the grandson of the grandma being never built up in a plot sense and throwing him in last minute decision. It would have been better if us as viewers could at least see the ML interacting with him before. He just felt like a random character to increase the stacks for the last decision. But than again he will show up for the next season.. maybe they will flesh out his character better then.

?????

I enjoy watching the show; it was nice seeing some of the season 1 actors. The action scene were also good some of them a bit too long but is ok. NOW, I dont about you but I have more questions then answers so if we get another season I will be watching. I think we might since the really left the ending as an opening scene. Lots of variables that are still loose and unanswered.

Good but not satisfied with the ending

Note: There is a post-credit scene after episode 7.

I did enjoy season 2 especially for the action but there were a few things I had a problem with. First, the show takes away from the monsters. The results were also very different for the same process which wasn't explained. There was something new that was mentioned but no details regarding that either. There are several plot holes and the female cop's actions don't add up. I did not see the reason for her character as she contributes nothing to the plot and the male police officer could have easily performed those scenes. His actions also don't make sense in the beginning after watching the final episode.

I enjoyed this season for entirely different reasons that I liked the first season but this also feels like a very different show. And not just because it is set in a different time period but we don't really understand what happened all those years in between that we skipped over. We only get the update from a short period. I enjoyed the mystery, intrigue, longing and the battles despite feeling confused at times and questions being left unanswered.

All the leads have performed wonderfully. I had hoped that we would see some justice for the original victims by the end of this. Alas.

I am assuming the story is not quite over but I don't think the writer will be taking it in the direction that I had hoped.

Cannot stand alone well (need to watch season 1 first) . Leaves room for a 3rd season

8/10 is my rating. This is a 2024 South Korean Science fiction, Horror, Thriller series with 43-56 minute episodes.

First I provide a Unique synopsis then review.

Synopsis

The first season took place in 1945. Fast forward to 2024 (79 years later) and Yoon Chae-Ok (Han So-Hee) is working with a mysterious group of people who help locate missing persons. She thinks Master Jang (Park Seo-jun) is long departed and kept herself away, while he was alive, because of the creature inside she has barely learned to control. While pirsuing a missing person, Chae-ok (Han So-hee) encounters a man who she, at first thinks is Master Jang but how can that be? He looks exactly as he did 79 years before. But this man Jang Ho-Jae (Park Seo-jun), says he is not Master Jang and does not seem to recognize her at all. They decide to work together on cases since they have some of the same goals.

Review

It is exciting and definitely lets us know what happens with all the major characters and even some of the minor ones. It could not stand very well alone, you need the backstory from the 1st season for many of the events of the first season to make sense. I was not suprised it end with a cliff hanger. Many of the South Korean content that Netflix has does not follow the pattern of one season, sometimes two, that end very neatly. It was something I loved about South Korean series, that they did not drag it on across many seasons. So, there are all the elements there for this to go another season. It was good and they did delve into the romance more in this one. I would not consider it necessarily happy, but one would not expect something like this to be all round happy. If you watched the first season, I highly recommend this second as I feel it does add a lot of depth to the story. I don’t know if I would rewatch it as a lot depends on where the entire series ultimateldy goes and how it all ends up. I have never felt compelled to watch “Game of Thrones” again even though I enjoyed it while I was watching it because it ended so horribly in my opinion. So, I can’t say at this point if I would watch it again or not.

Spoilers

I really like Park Seo-jun as an actor. So I am drawn to things he is in anyway. He has not disappointed in this role. He is heroic and compassionate and yet tough and resolute.

There are so relatively few series like this so it is hard to be overly picky. My main critique is just the Netflix effect where they drag it on and there is no great assurance they will finish the story. It all has to do with how much money they make off it whether we will see the seasons that would finalize the story. Other than that it is very good for what it is. It has that other worldly science fiction and horror element that is more rare for series.

#GyeongseongCreature2 #GyeongseongCreatureTwo #HanSoHee. #ParkSeoJun

Awesome show!

I don't know if other people feel this way, but I have to admit I liked this one even more than the first season! Don't get me wrong, I loved the first season, but something about this one made me love it more. Maybe because it was set in modern times, I'm not sure.

With these kinds of shows, it's better for me personally if they're shorter because they don't keep me interested that long. Therefore, I think the length of this season was perfect, the episode run time was good, and the number of episodes was good.

As for the actual show, I really, really enjoyed it! Every episode left me wanting to watch more. I genuinely liked the direction they went with each of the storylines, and I liked all of the new ones as well. The budget on this one seemed to be even better, so that was nice. The two leads showcased some awesome acting! I really like both of them.

This stands as one of the only sci-fi and/or action kdramas I like; that's saying a lot! I definitely recommend this.

An enjoyable experience

I was very excited for the series. The first season did such an amazing job in setting the historical background and incorporated the story in it. This season takes place in modern times , a little unexpected honestly . I personally would have preferred if they continued the events in the past. But they managed to tie the story to the present very well. The chemistry didn't disappoint and I enjoyed the thrill and fights though the dialogues seemed a bit draggy. It was going well until the last episode. The last episode felt rushed and their victory didn't feel like one cuz it happened so fast . I get what they were trying to go for but it was a little disappointing. The open ending didn't do it for me. After all her efforts and struggle, chae-ok deserved better. I would have loved to know how they lived when it was all over. Overall , I liked it and it was good as a one time watch.
The acting is top-notch (well its Park Seo Joon)and the action lovers will certainly enjoy it.

A lot worse than S1. If there is a S3 you can skip this one and not miss much at all.

While I didn't think season 1 was a masterpiece at the time since it did suffer of some plot problems in terms of explanations and execution, it is a masterpiece if compared with season 2.

Season 1 had a very good setting and a motive, even if somewhat very generic and never explored enough in my opinion.
I still don't really understand the reason of creating the monsters, evolution or some powers is not worth the hassle, especially from a capitalistic standpoint, they lose more than they gain, immortality might be the only real perk here but potentially killing everyone around you when you cut your finger with the kitchen knife is not worth the immortality in my opinion.
The motives of the bad guys are never fully explained and fall into the very generic category, either just because or because wanting to save X person.

Season 2 main problem is the plot and its execution. First of all like many others have said there are way too many plotholes and I don't think they'll tackle them in a potential season 3. They had the time to show things but they didn't. Of the 7 episodes about 4-5 are just a mess of getting back to the point where we were at the end of season 1, sprinkled with some flashbacks that didn't add much in terms of explanation of the most important things. We're not even told fully well what happened a year prior, nor how the relationship of ML developed with Seung Jo, we're told a bit but not shown. This is a repetitive occurrence in this season, we're told things but not shown.
The setting in season 1 was interesting both historically and cinematographically, here it completely lost the charm it had between the warm tones and the grittiness of the hospital and changed to just dark. Someone please turn the light on!!! This is a problem in many Hollywood productions nowadays, they're recorded very dark to the point at moments you can't tell what is happening in the scene, here they used the same idea and butchered the balance it previously had.
The monsters are very underutilised. There was a reason for it to be there in season 1 because of FL's mother and the general plot, here it feels like they were put there at the end for the sake of not receiving complains there were none, but nothing more. I still don't know more about these creatures than I did in season 1, they seem to be conscious to a certain extent so why would they do what their captors want anyway. I'm a monster and instead of attacking whoever is being put there for me I would just continuously try to break free and kill who did it. Season 1 certainly had more nuance in this aspect but season 2 seems to have gone backwards.

One of the things that annoyed me the most about season 2 is how background character they made the FL. Sure, she's there in body and does some cool fighting scenes but her essence feels pretty off most of the season and she was mostly relegated to damsel in distress. I still don't understand this, she's supposed to be better fighter than ML (sure, he has caught up in the years) and you would think that having her mother's najin (what seems to be kind of special in some way) would put her at an advantage over others, yet they made ML way more powerful than her and he's the one fighting all the bad guys. We're at no point told or shown what kind of najin he was given either for this to be this way. It was disappointing, even more considering that with her memories erased at the end they made her a girly girl??????? Where is this coming from!!!? ML didn't have his memories for a big part of season 2 but he was still mostly himself in his ways and personality (although generally not so much the same personality he had in S1), but with her she lost completely everything that made her herself.
I liked ML in season 1 because it felt like it was this somewhat cocky guy that found himself in a mess and was doing the best he could in the situation but here they decided to make him a superhero basically, and the main problem is not even that he's that way but the fact that we missed and are not shown how he got to that, he simply is now.

I don't have much opinion about their romance since for me it's just base ok, but repeating the plot and dragging their love misery gets old quickly, as in, it was already exhausted in the first season so I didn't want nor needed to see more or less the same love plot in season 2.
Seung Jo was very underutilised and the background stories of the other villains were also very nonexistent here. Can't even begin with those ninja najin mutants that had their heads covered. Imagine having extra good sight and covering your eyes just because of the fashion purposes of your master. Sir, you want the job done or aesthetics? I guess it's the second.
The action parts were good, but they were also dragged for the sake of it trying to show off. It almost reminded me of when I watched Aquaman, it's an action with some sprinkles of plot in-between and here it felt a lot like that too.
Season 1 certainly had more of a plot and there was more exploration of characters, they also felt all more unique. Here they become more the generic dichotomy of superhero series/movies bad guys vs good guys. Sure, they tried to make Seung Jo more of a grey character but with his background character very erased from the plot except for a few flashbacks that don't explore enough and don't let you connect with him, he's just a villain to all effects here.
I found the character of Lady Maeda interesting in the first season, if ultimately disappointing in her, again, dichotomy of character, but in season 2 is just plain boring and very background. I couldn't wait for her to die (if indeed she has that is) but once she did I even thought it was unsatisfactory considering the amount of stuff she had done.

Funny enough, despite all its flaws it's still entertaining at times and the reason for my rating. It's watchable as an action series with nearly zero brains in the plot, don't ask questions. I think if there is a season 3 it might be worse than this one, clearly they're going for an apocalypse type setting with mass killings, what means even more action and less brains.

I think if there is indeed a season 3 you can skip the 2nd altogether, you only need to know that FL and ML found each other and that she had her najin from the end of season 1 removed. Watch the 2 minutes prologue of the last episode of season 2 and you're set.

Too much question for this season

If i want to compare season and this, i vote season was better. This season more like about Jang Tae Sang and Yoon Chae Ok life and how they survive for 79 years.
Now for the serious part.
Everything was good from acting, OST, production and VFX, but the story it self is ruined all my expectation from season 1 and also some character did not introduced well.
1. Who is Kwon Yong Gil ? He said that he was grandchild of Kwon Jun Taek, but that's it ? No explanation at all.
2. What is Jeonseung Biotech really is?
3. What is Kuroko ? Is that like a man-made soldier that have a Najin inside it or what ???
4. Who is that Captain Kuroko ? How can he get the Najin ?
5. How can Jeonseung Biotechbreed the Najin ?
This is just a glimpse of question in my head for this season, but once again, everything was good but they rush it as 7 episode and left some explanation.
Now i was expecting for season 3 because Najin is in a bottle of water ? and maybe Seung Jo will make an army with that, or just make a riot for society imo.

Fast & brutal action scenes

I have read and seen little about season 2, I only recently caught on that it is happening in modern times.
Hence, I was quite curious to what kind of character Park Seo Joon (ML) would play this season: would he still be Jang Tae Sang? Or someone who looked like him? I guess I can say I was wondering how they had included his character in modern time. I won't reveal it here to not spoil, though, but it was solved in an OK way.

I know Han So Hee (FL) has been a bit controversial, which I don't want to get into, but as an actress I must say I think she impresses. I dare say I might even find her a bit stronger than PSJ in this season.

The season is fast-paced, with lots of action and fight scenes that are bloody and goory, and sometimes so packed and intense it is almost difficult to follow (at least when watching on smaller screens).

There was a few things I questioned a bit - could be because I don't quite remember from season 1, or because the script didn't go into it.

I won't say this is highly memorable, but it is a quality production.

Tips: Do watch a little bit into the end credits.

If you loved the 1st season, you're gonna love this one too!

Don't expect too much! The 2nd season doesn't really offer more than the 1st, the casting is still good, the action is even better now, but the story is still average at best!

What I loved about the 1st season is missing from here, and that's the time period. Even tho, I loved the first season more, I think the second one deserve the same score, because it's not worst, it's just nothing new.

Honestly, when I first heard the new season will take place in the present, I already knew how it's gonna end and what's gonna happen, and I was right. From start to finish, it was predictable. This is like a typical Marvel movie, average, BUT enjoyable and fun, but you won't think about it too much after you finished it.

I think the big problem with the series is that they have a fascinating story with a meaningful message, but just like in every blockbuster movie, they don't really care about that, it's more about the action than the meaning behind the story. They talk about the importance of life and stuff, but don't really show it to us.

Sohee and Seojoon are still amazing, what you can see is an acting masterclass, but I'm not sure if this show can offer more.

Also, I didn't like the ending. I mean, if we will get a 3rd season, I don't get why they had to finish Chae Ok and Tae Sang's story like that, because it's obvious what's gonna happen to them in the next season.

Not to mention the cliffhanger. Honestly, I'm intrigued how they would handle a story like that, but after watching 2 seasons, I'm not sure if I want to see it with the same writer.

Anyway, like I said, if you liked the 1st season, the 2nd won't disappoint you, probably, but if you want more from a show than average with good action scenes, then you have to watch something else!
