O Oitavo Sentido (2023)

Non migliore di molti altra drama

Di solito non scrivo recensioni di drama che non mi colpiscono particolarmente nel bene o nel male, come in questo caso, ma viste le lodi sperticate che leggo in giro riguardo a questo titolo mi sembrava giusto cercare di presentare un'opinione leggermente più obbiettiva spero. E visto che tanto scrivo in italiano, la leggeranno in pochi e nessuno mi lincerà per questo. Questo drama a mio avviso non è niente di straordinario, meglio di altri BL, ma peggiore di altri Bl per certi aspetti, o in media con altri drama dello stesso tipo. La trama non è nulla di nuovo sotto il sole, anzi la trama di Blueming mi aveva dato qualcosa di più in termini di coerenza e novità con l'insrimento dell'argomento cinematografia. In fondo eighth sense a livello di storia si può riassumere in tre parole: un ragazzo di campagna che arriva in città per frequentare il primo anno di università maturerà grazie all'incontro con un ragazzo dell'ultimo anno con un sacco di problemi di cui si innamorerà. Tutto qui. I personaggi principali sono abbastanza approfonditi e interessanti in particolare Seo jae won, e hanno abbastanza chimica. e tratti distintivi ma già il passato di Kim Ji non è che venga approfondito... ed entrambi i protagonisti sono vittima della malattia del protagonista riscontrabile in migliaia di altri drama: tutti li vogliono. Tutti vogliono essere loro amici o morosi. Ae rin che viene tanto lodata come amica del ragzzo di campagna e che praticamente gli impone la sua amicizia, si capisce perchè vuole a tutti i costi essere sua amica? No. O perchè l'ex del senior vuole tornare con lui anche se sembra che non lo ami poi molto e nemmmeno le piaccia? Per orgoglio? Perchè lui è ricco? Non viene adtto. Tutti li vogliono e basta. E vogliamo parlare delle infinite puntate dove il senior non è mai sobrio per più di 5 minuti? O del montaggio veramente scadente? Certe scene seguenti non hanno legami tra di loro oppure sono girate in modo strano. Ora io non sono un regista nè un critico cinematografico ma se un personaggio sta parlando in quel momento o gli sta succedendo qualcosa di rilevante direi che sarebbe il caso di inquadrarlo no? Invece più e più volte questo non succede e tu non capisci neanche la scena dopo perchè non hai visto cos'è successo prima. Tipo nelle prime lezioni di surf di Seo a Kim, Kim non viene inquadrato mente parlano, solo Seo, e vediamo sempre solo Seo anche quando Kim va sott'acqua e dopo Seo che sembra allarmato, ma non vediamo la scena di Kim che quasi annega benchè il trauma con l'acqua ce l'abbia lui non Seo! E anche le lodi che altri spettaori scrivono al drama per la presenza della psicologa e per il fatto che finalmente un drama fa vedere un personaggio in terapia....per carità bella cosa (che poteva essere fatta meglio visivamente parlando, inserendo le scene con la psicologa in modo più logico, ma tralasciamo) , ma altri drama l'hanno già fatto e anni orsono, tipo Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo ancora nel 2016. Quindi per favore non urliamo al miracolo. The eight sense è un drama carino, ma non straordinario, piuttosto prolisso e lento, in media con altri prodotti dello stesso tipo e migliore di alcuni di loro per contenuti, non dico di no, ma anche con velleità artistiche che non si può permettere secondo me. Buona la chimica tra i protagonisti che innalza il livello del drama a cui altrimenti avrei dato forse l'insufficienza per quanto mi riguarda.

I am too old for a show like this

"If you dont heal what hurt you, you'll bleed on those who didn't cut you"

The above quote was all I could think of watching this show. I just wanted to take Jihun by the hand and tell him to leave these assholes to their misery because that's what happens in life. Learn to love from a far. You can be compassionate without sacrificing yourself and I couldnt help but feel that, that was the direction this was headed in. Love conquers all.
Unfortunately it doesn't. There is a 50/50 chance of a relationship like this turning emotionally abusive.

The character I understood the most was the therapist who, was seemingly bad at her job but no. She was tired of the same story, over and over and over. You can't save people from themselves. In fact, many people dont want to be saved because their misery is all they know, so they just live there, ghosting, lashing out, avoidance, self destructive behaviours, all while hurting the people who love them.

After a certain age, you start choosing yourself over loving people like this.

The other factor in my lack of compassion, is what a lot of other reviews have stated. The editing. The first 2 episodes were beautiful, and then it started getting choppy. We jumped straight from ghosting to holding hands on a date. They just looked into each other's eyes and all was forgiven. Instincts or infatuation here? And if this editing style is to continue it's just going to create a further divide between my own emotional reasoning and my empathy for the characters because I feel like i'm hopping from one scenario to the next rather than walking with them through their pain.

Perhaps a few years ago, I would have enjoyed this. I understand it. I get it. I've lived and watch others live it. Every single person on this planet is carrying something, but relationship is never a crutch for your healing. You do not heal each other. When it becomes about mental health and trauma, it is truly solidary journey because only you are experiencing what you are experiencing and I don't find it romantic that someone is waiting for me to see through my issues.

Overall, I can see the appeal of a story like this, and I can understand why it's so loved but at the end of the day, between the disorientating editing and being through too much in my own life to feel tolerant, this just feels draining to watch.

Warning: Dont read this review, if you liked this drama

Okay, so after listening to the rave reviews on MDL and Discord that this series was the epitome of a BL production, I sat to watch this series. The cinematography, the acting, the OST, the story - everything was considered to be awesome about this series. By everyone.
So it was with a fair amount of expectation that I sat to watch this series.
To say it was a disappointment is an understatement.
Let me start by saying that I watched this drama on kisskh, which means the quality ain't HD, and that I haven't crossed 3 episodes in this drama.
The series starts off with a huge wet blanket and a downer by showing the main lead, who apparently only has vicious sticks as friends around him, sitting in a bar listening to his friends, spew jealous logorrhea about him... I mean, I take into consideration, that maybe they showed it that way, to show what a blockbuster life the ML has, but I still disapprove. It just makes me feel very uncomfortable and it's very off-putting to me as a viewer.
Alright, never mind. Maybe at least the MC might be a fresh breath of air, I thought.
Turns out he is a mighty prick, who doesn't have friends, but wants some, but still manages to do all things that would lead to the opposite. he is gloomy, unnatural, and absolutely has no friend-making skills whatsoever, which isn't as bad a thing as I make it out to be, to be very frank. I might have forgiven him for that if he could have been a little less pricky about it.
By the end of 1st episode and the start of the 2nd, we are shown that the boring, pompous, gloomy boy decides to start surfing all of a sudden. In my opinion, it doesn't sit right with his character... I mean, surfing? he doesn't have a single hobby or characteristic that would make us think, "Oh, it's natural for the MC to go surfing... it makes sense..."
No, it doesn't.
So that's another downer.
The two characters speak, but it's mostly Jae Won helping and Ji Hyun sulking. Just imagine this rolling for a few episodes and then out of nowhere, Jae Won kisses Ji Hyun... I mean, why? how? And seriously, whyyyy??
Oh god, was that flirting up until now?? Thank you The Eighth Sense, for making me feel better about my flirting skills...
But for your welfare, I would suggest you make the actors wear placards that state "Oh I am flirting ight now", cause otherwise we wouldn't know.
I didn't watch it beyond that... the dead fish kisses were the last straw for me, which allowed me to close the curtains on this boring shitshow...

i don’t even know where to start with this series.
before i’ve watched this, my all time favorite korean bl was to my star 1&2. but once the trailer dropped for this series, something clicked in my brain. i knew this series was going to be the best kbl i’ve ever seen. and i was right.
theres many good things i can say about this show. for one, the directing was amazing. and the cinematography was amazing as well. just based on the teaser, the eighth sense was giving me some sort of “indie-college-film-project” vibe, and i was 100% there for it.
i absolutely loved the plot. it was executed perfectly too. nothing was going too fast or two slow— the pacing was perfect. to me, this series had more of a slowburn feel, which i loved. it was filled with much angst, and i love angsty shows, so that’s another reason why i loved this so much.
the acting was incredible. jisub and juntaek had immaculate chemistry.
i really really loved jaewon. i tend to drift more towards characters that have a troubling past/present. mental health being portrayed in media, especially korean, is really important to many people who struggle as well. and i think this show executed it very well. it didn’t villanize him, but it also didn’t make it to be jaewon’s entire personality. it was vague, but enough to understand what he was going through. plus, on the extra scenes on youtube, you can see his mental illness more in depth.
this was such a beautiful series. with the pining, the angst, the cinematography, the music, everything was perfect. but to me, this series was painful to watch. but i love painful and angsty series.
i rated the rewatch value lower than 10, just because i know it would kill me if i did. rewatch it. i totally would though, if i wanted to be in pain again.
there’s so many more things i could say about this series, but my mind is drawing blank and it’s been a while since i’ve watched it, since i was watching it while it was airing.
i have no complaints at all. so amazing and beautiful.

wild plot, great kdrama

A very kdramaey BL college story. Much much better than Semantic Error. 10 episodes at 40 mins ea, so not a weekday drama, Wild plot, good drinking scenes. Secondary characters have some dramatic weight. Skorean scriptwriters always entertain, such is the trust they engender. The main characters here have real family backgrounds and discussions are had of a possible future for our pair in the real world beyond uni. My only caveat is a protest at yet another timid paler blonder small guy falling for an outgoing taller darker guy. Hate the predictable height and/or coloring tropes.

I am in love with this k-bl ♡.♡
I already watched this 5 times and I still love it.
It literally gave me butterflies.
Only the music could be better, but it's still 10 stars for me.
EVERYONE should watch this, it's the best k-bl I've watched in my whole life and I've watched ALL k-bl's in the whole world.♡

Rewatch worthy!

If you haven't seen this yet, watch it now! Im obsessed! It is so incredibly well done. Every single episode ends beautifully and the actual ending is perfect. I wouldnt change a thing. Its romantic, heart-warming, emotional, and has some of my favorite intimate scenes out of any BL. It also has really great conflict and even better resolve. It definitely gives off a more indie vibe which I love. Its a BL you will keep coming back to for sure.

To get more in depth, here are some spoilers......

One of the main reasons im obsesssd with this series is due to the Actors ability to create such chemistry and emotion while doing seemigly mundane things. For example : Kim Ji Hyun bringing Seo Jae Won two cigerettes instead of just one or him handing him a ligther as he starts to walk away. Something so simple held so much emotion that it pulls you in. This happens many times throughout the series and you just can't stop watching it.
My obsession may also be due to the characters and the way the writers help you get to know them. There are no unnecessary fillers or introductions that take up whole episodes.They dive right into the story and you learn exactly what you need to in the perfect way. It's hard to explain but you'll see what I mean when you watch it.

Both the main characters have their own charms that will make you fall in love with them. Their Chemistry is also so pure that you can't help but root for them.

Their is multiple points of conflict but the resolve is sooooo worth it. The scene where they come back together after being apart is seriously my favorite.

just go watch it. seriously

The best K-BL I've seen!

Ugh! I loved this so freaking much!!!!

This show had so much depth, I was hooked from start to finish. The Eighth Sense was just so beautiful and well done. I felt every emotion possible and melted into a puddle of feelings.

Normally I am petty until I die, but it was so sweet to see everyone make amends in the last episode. Truthfully some didn't deserve redemption, but our MCs have such kind souls.

I highly recommend this series. It takes you many places and explores so much more than I expected. The actors were amazing, their chemistry was palpable and they didn't give us dead fish kisses! They gave us heat! I do wish we got to see more healing, but I loved it so much as it is.
